User interface is a nightmare

User interface is a nightmare. Managed to get it to sync and save to an external HDD starting from scratch, but seemingly impossible to figure out how to save syncs and initiate updates.

closest I've found to ViceVersa

When used with chron it's the closest I've found to ViceVersa, a Windows product. Performance seems ok and no errors thus far. I do still use TimeShife however for sys backup. I don't know about the donation or paid version of whatever. I read some hinky stuff on happens with FreeFileSync donations so I didn't use it.

dangerous tool

dangerous tool; it works harmless and unrecognized for a long time, while observing the victim, which is the user; the suspicion of data theft is obvious; the imprint of the author is wrong; it lacks functionality under certain conditions, when upload slows down for no reason at all

Not very open

Not very open, for open source product

I could not find any reference to where the source code is stored with revision control (e.g. like in github etc).

The freefilesync.org website offers executables and zip files of the source for each release but there is no way to verify that the source zip file actually compiles to produce the executable.

So you don't know exactly what you're going to be running when you install the software...

This might not be malicious software, but it leaves me very uncomfortable, not knowing that anyone else has actually reviewed the code changes from the prior version to verify no nasty bugs have been installed, or worse..

I would much rather that the source code, and build process were OPENLY accessible, for software claiming to be open sourse 'FOSS'.

Amazing piece of software.

Amazing piece of software.
Personally, I currently use it for manual backups and syncs only because I'm still tidying up my file system but this tool helps so much. And at that it's free donationware. Powerful and fast without compromise.

Good but flawed

Good but not reliable when run as a scheduled task. It works first time but leaves lock files behind which prevents the next run. There is a setting to remove lock files but it doesn't work. I have google this issue and tried fixes suggested by others who have this persistent problem but non seem to work. I recall that it was not a problem until fairly recently so maybe Windows 10 updates are to blame.

Totally free and clean with flexible syncing modes.

It's totally free and clean. I always use Freefilesync to back up my documents to my external USB drive.

You can easily set up a filter to exclude the files you don't want to sync.

I have both Windows 11 and macOS 12 and work on them for different purposes. Freefilesync is a great assistant to sync the files between two computers.

The lovely one

The very simple program ever which I use in my home for any copying case.
The great one for normal users, sometimes I have some issues with it but it can be handled.
On the other hand, we use Gs richcopy 360 in my company, it is dependable and reliable for the IT manager, and it does all the tasks successfully, The problem is that I can't convince him to use FreeFileSync!
