DO NOT take this card overseas!!! Ours failed day 1!! After a week they were still “working” on the problem. If I didn’t have another card, we would have been totally screwed!

0/10 don't recommend.

They acquired our local bank and we've had non stop issues since. I get random fee amounts at random times for no reason. Changes were made to my account with no notification and no authorization when I was told I had a legacy account. My account/debit card was locked so many times for no reason that I will be going with another bank. Both the physical and phone assistance hours are almost exclusively during hours you cannot actually go to the bank so getting customer service in a timely manner is almost impossible.

over the top customer service.

My husband and I moved from Oregon to Arizona. We had some issues with our USBank account. I have been banking with them for more then 20 years.
It seemed no matter what I needed they were not able to help me in any way.
I took a long shot and call first intersate bank. They were not able to do a wire transfer, but found a suitable way for me to accomplish what needed to be done. They wrote a counter check. Then wow, someone drove to my old bank (USBank) and deposited the counter check. Awesome.amazing bank. Prudence

Dear First Interstate Bank,

Dear First Interstate Bank,

I am having a real problem with my mortgage company, First Interstate Bank. I have posed this simple question. Why was my escrow account depleted in January 2025 to the extent that my account for 2026 shows a shortage of $1,803.97 and an increase of $200 for my monthly payment? I received the paperwork informing me of my new mortgage payment for 2026. This escrow shortage of $1,803.97 that was caused by the bank refunding a check for $1,184.06 last January that should have stayed in my escrow account and also overpaying my hazard ins payment by $220. First Interstate Bank also lowered my mortgage payment, for 2025, by $70 per month. If this error did not occur there would be not shortage for 2026. Mortgage payments do not go down unless there is a decrease in hazard ins. or property taxes. Neither was the case. After visiting the Kalispell Main Branch of First Interstate Bank, I was advised to take up this issue with the mortgage center in Wyoming. I have tried repeatedly to resolve this issue with the bank mortgage center in but I keep getting the run around from one department to the next. After posing the above question, each person passes me off to another department. On the first call, (Wednesday January 14th) the person (name unknown) said they could not help me at this time. They said that they needed to investigate my problem and gathered all of the necessary info in my file before they could answer my questions. They said that they would call me back in 2-3 business days. I waited 8 days (January 22nd) and no one called. Calling again, and explaining my problem to the dept handling difficulty in making payments. (name Rob) I was hung up on abruptly and he referred me to the escrow dept. The next person, after explaining my problem, (name Jodie) told me that I didn't even understand how mortgages work and was told that if I wanted a lower mortgage payment I should ask my insurance company for a lower rate. Jodie said that she believes that she did not have the ability to explain this issue to me correctly and that she needed to refer me to someone more knowledgeable than herself. I tried to assure her that I fully understand how mortgages and escrow accounts work. She hung up the phone and I waited for quite some time on a silent phone and no one ever picked up my call. I hung up after about 10-12 min. I have tried through proper channels to have my simple question answered.

I believe that First Interstate Bank realizes they made an error and created this shortfall, and will not admit it. Is there any way for me to resole this issue?

Worthless

Worthless
Called bank to inform them that we would be out of country and wanted to use our debit card for cash withdrawal.
After a long 25 minute discussion with agent spelling out the details (most banks simply require an email) we later tried to use the card on two occasions and it was refused. Later got a message asking if it was us. Too late luckily we had another card from a RELIABLE bank and were able to get cash

Terrible.. They need an audit.

Bank was decent about 5 years ago, things changed, branches closed, no notice they closed my account when my local branch closed, they transferred my funds to a completely new bank that took over the location without my consent or without even notifying me. Then I was unable to make payments on an auto loan because they cancelled my online account to which my auto pay was set up to. Several months go by with no notice of any of this until the account was 90+ days overdue. So I've had to deal with several people over several months to get things straightened out, which it is still not. Now fees are being assessed because of a situation which arose from their likely negligent possibly illegal practices, and each time is worse than the last. Terrible service, terrible business practices. Now I've got to deal with an attorney to protect from them. FIB likely won't last much longer.

Can't file a dispute at my local bank

Explain to me why this bank uses overseas sources to file disputes. I don't need anyone overseas having my bank information. This is unethical and absolutely no one overseas needs access to my bank information.

Deposited a 10.000 dollar check and…

Deposited a 10.000 dollar check and they are now dispersing part of my funds on one date and the rest at a later date. I don’t understand this as I’m sure the check will clear and then they can distribute all my funds at one time when I asked for them to give the check back I would take it somewhere else. They had already stamped it really leaving me no choice but to sign a noticed of hold paper, accepting the two different dates! and then they were rude when I questioned this I’m not sure who the banker was in West Des Moines that I spoke to on the phone, but she was very rude and that’s just the way it is I would not recommend this bank to anyone! Sorry for all the misspelling

My branch's service is like time travel to the "good old days."

My branch is 57th Street in Spokane and I've been banking with them since 2010 when they were Inland NW Bank (they kept the same staff). They are the best bank in the world and I've used many. I am now living abroad, and they're still my bank. Any request or issue, I call them and they answer the phone on nearly the first ring and there's a nice person eager to help. They've always resolved my issues, patiently. It feels like I'm stepping back in time.

FIB Matercard is a Joke & Poor Customer Service…

Horrible experience with First Interstate Bank Master Card. Very difficult to get earned rewards and they dole them out in $50 increments. Nasty computer won't let you talk with a real person! Too bad because I immediately got a replacement card that pays 2% from another bank with a GREAT Customer Service person.

I’m giving this review 3 stars because…

I’m giving this review 3 stars because I talked to two different ladies on the phone this morning. (Each lady I spoke to works at a different location). So, the first employee that I spoke to on the phone (can’t remember her name) at the location near Walmart in Spearfish, I expressed some concerns about my transactions…and out of feeling like my issue wasn’t being resolved, I did say I was considering changing banks. Well I haven’t changed banks yet, and her response was “okay, fine…have a good day. I expect for a professional business to at least want to try and keep me. Not just say, “fine”…and her tone of voice is pretty much like saying, “fine, have it your way.
But the reason I’m still leaving 3 stars is because I called the location on Main Street in Spearfish and spoke to a lady named Jenna, who was very nice and professional. I hope that the first girl I talked to on the phone doesn’t talk like this to everyone because when you work at a bank, you are bound to get upset customers…some who actually yell and scream and I did not do that with her. My issue was never really resolved, but Jenna, the second person I spoke to, helped me to understand what was going on better and a whole lot more professional.

An inconvenience not a bank

Bank is a joke. Hours are bad so if you work a 9-5 job, you have no option to go in and have issues resolved. Close at 430 and not open on Saturdays. My ex closed the account after leaving me and the kids and was never notified, but they called me almost everyday for 3 weeks to see if I’d authorize a charge to go thru. Same lady and every day I’d tell her that they let my then husband close it so how could I authorize charges on a closed account.

If I could negative stars then I would

If I could negative stars then I would. Every service with this bank is ridiculous. 75% of the time you can't load the app to check your transactions or balance. It was much better a couple years ago when they were great western. The ATM doesn't work half of the time. Or when it does, it says cash withdrawal is temporarily unavailable. Even when you go to cash in change, their machine seems to always be broken. I will be pulling my money out, closing my account and switching banks. Do not do business with them.

Poor Mobile App

First Interstate Bank is not competitive, and their app has issues! For example, you can't use the app to make large mobile deposits, and bank managers are unable to increase mobile deposit limits like at other banks. Their app won't let you make a mobile deposit of over $5k. Time to change banks!

Fear of losing money has FIB treating customers badly!

FIB is not business friendly. They are so afraid of being caught in fraud that they have treated many new and prospective new customers very poorly. I have owned a marketing company since 1989. I created a new marketing business specifically for online sales. FIB opened and account, took my $5k deposit, then two weeks later gave me thirty days to close my account, saying my "business model" was outside their scope of acceptable business. Really? I think FIB must be having financial trouble... They claim they are being pro-active for fraud. But I was recently told by other business people that many are now taking their money out of FIB bank without explanations. Never been treated so poorly by a bank in our entire lives.
