Considering 71 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently reported significant difficulties with the claims process, often encountering requests for extensive and sometimes irrelevant documentation, which prolonged resolution. Many people found it challenging to contact customer service, experiencing long response times and a notable lack of direct communication channels. Avoid Europ Assistance

Europ Assistance does not even worth 1 star. I broke my ankle during my travel in Hong Kong and was hospitalized. I contacted both my Dutch health insurance CZ and Europ Assistance is my travel insurance by my AMEX platinum card. My doctor in Hong Kong and Dutch insurance both recommended a metal fixation surgery. My Dutch health insurance will cover the cost up to a certain amount. I reached out to Europ Assistance and they confirmed that Europ Assistance will cover the rest of the medical cost after my Dutch insurance has paid its share. At the end the budget from CZ covered all my medical cost. Due to my surgery, my stay Hong Kong is extended by 15 days (day 15 follow up appointment with the doctor), Europ Assistance said they can cover 10 days accommodation of my extended stay depending on my post surgical report. Ok, fair enough. But you know what, just 9 minutes after their confirmation email, they said they reviewed my report (aren’t you supposed to review it already before you confirmed with me in the first place?) and asked me to repatriate back to the Netherlands asap and if I refuse, there is nothing they can do to me. Extremely unprofessional with giving contradictory information. Why should I follow their repatriation recommendation while both my doctor in Hong Kong and my Dutch health insurance recommended me to take surgery onsite plus I was not fit to fly at that moment? Why is their advice leading instead of my health insurance and local doctor? Europ Assistance doesn’t even need to bear my medical cost. We are only asking Europ Assistance to support the extended accommodation which we are insured for and the cost is minimal, it is even less than booking me a flight ticket. During the whole process, Europ Assistance asked for contact of our CZ insurance so that they can coordinate, we provided that right away. It turned out that they have never contacted my primary health insurance CZ. Is it actually their trick to give different recommendation so that they can deny your claim because you don’t follow their recommendation?
Europ Assistance is not there to help me, they gave me more stress than help. Such a contrary than my health insurance CZ & their partner ANWB alarmcentral who provided excellent help. I will keep on fighting for my right and escalate it to regulators, but people should be warned about Europ Assistance and avoid it.

Do not use this company

I signed up with EuropAssist through Flight Centre for a trip to New Zealand. Half the trip was cancelled due to very bad weather. On return I provided EuropAssist with all the documentation that they requested, and probably more. In the first month I was passed around at least five staff at EuropAssist, each contacted me requesting more information with no detail on what that information may be. I kept resending them documents that they already had. I never provided anything new. It was not until I got Flight Centre involved that I got any progress with my claim. I have finally received some money back (after 3 months of constant haggling) and I will never use EuropAssist again. Do your research and find a reputable travel insurance company.

Money for nothing!

I purchased travel insurance with Europ Assistance for a trip to Thailand. While removing his suitcase from the baggage carousel at the airport, my husband injured his back and was in severe pain. We sought medical attention from a qualified professional, who diagnosed and treated a herniated disc.

We submitted an insurance claim promptly, including all required supporting documentation, and awaited a decision. We later received an email advising us to log into our account, as our case had been updated. Upon logging in, we found only a brief message stating that our claim had been denied and that an email had been sent explaining the reason.

No such explanatory email was received. Repeated attempts simply redirected us back to the online portal, which provided no justification for the decision.

This was a legitimate claim supported by medical evidence, yet it was rejected without explanation. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this insurer. They accepted the premium, denied a valid claim, and failed to provide transparency or accountability in their decision-making.

I have used Europ Assistance for…travel insurance.

I have used Europ Assistance for several visa application requiring insurance in the host country. My last experience with EA was a complete disaster. Extremely difficult to contact anyone who can be actionable or answer a question or problem. Prepare to spend HOURS getting nowhere. This company is no longer able to accomplish its job. Beware.

PLEASE, DO NOT USE EUROP ASSISTANCE

To begin with, it took 30 plus business days to get a response with numerous messages left on their site. Secondly their replies are all canned. You know then, you are a priority in their system. 🙄 Revenue of 10 billion plus. On the backs of us suckers.

Abandoned in Saudi Arabia after medical emergency – Europ Assistance refuses to help!

I am currently in Medina, Saudi Arabia, recovering from a severe medical emergency (Gastroenteritis & IBS symptoms).

The local hospital and the treating physician have officially cleared me as 'Fit to Fly' and prescribed a specific treatment plan.
Despite having a valid insurance claim through
Airbnb, Europ Assistance España is refusing to book my return flight.

Their 'doctors' - who have never seen me - claim they 'do not confirm' the necessity of the flight and told me to just stay in Saudi Arabia until I am 'healthy.'

This is a total denial of service. They are ignoring official medical reports and trying to avoid the costs of my repatriation. It is a disgrace to leave a patient stranded in a foreign country when the doctor says he can go home.

If you are traveling with Airbb or Europ Assistance, be warned: they might leave you behind when you need them most. I will be taking legal action and escalating this to Airbnb HQ immediately.

They dont pay out approved claims

My claims were approved in June 2025, its is now the end of December 2025 and I have not been paid. After much back and forth with the company they have repeatedly been unforthcoming with the details and are unable to provide any records of attempting the transaction.

Most negative experience in making travel insurance claim

Can you provide a negative star review. I have never experienced such a runaround for any insurance claim ever. The lack of information to submit a claim. Both my husband and myself were forced to submit claims but we both were seriously unwell and visited hospital and paid for health care and discharged together. My husbands claim has been delayed time and again requesting documentation that simply does not exist. My claim was processed, but the approval never sent to finance to reimburse. Never rely on insurance recommended by Flight Centre again. Avoid "free" or "discounted" insurance, do your research, purchase any other insurance not associated with this organisation. Am so glad I have not repurchased insurance with this group for my next travel experience overseas. There is no ability to contact when a medical emergency occurs - try calling the phone number provided whilst in Australia and it will not connect. When travelling had to reactivate roaming multiple times and not able to connect to them day or night to seek urgent medical support. Next steps - will be to write a formal complaint to this group, to Flight Centre and then follow up with the Australian Financial Complaints Ombudsman.

Super bad experience with them

Super bad experience with them. They denied a claim saying that the insurance was not valid because my trip started in Australia (where I was living in my year of working holiday visa) to Italy (where I'm actually resident) with a stop in Thailand where I need to use the cover. In their conditions is not specified that the trip needs to start and finish in Italy and they admitted that the conditions where not written properly but they denied anyway made pay a lot of money for anti rabic profilaxis. AVOID!!

This is a rogue insurer to be avoided

This is a rogue insurer to be avoided. I suffered a DVT whilst in the UK and received medical advice from a London Hospital not to fly for four weeks. Europ-Assist asserts that I was fit to fly and should have ignored the medical advice. Less than ten days before I am able to fly home and I have not had the claim accepted and currently have no insurance cover for the return flight. Utter disgrace.

I took out full cover for my 1 month overseas holiday to Europe through Flight Centre, with Europ insurance. My suitcase was broken into on my return flight to Australia. All my jewellery, alcohol, expensive perfumes and presents were stolen.
Europ insurance now email me and tell me that they don’t cover jewellery etc. Is this for real, as I took out full cover! I’ve never heard of this, otherwise why do people take insurance out?
Absolutely ridiculous. DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY.

Dont use this travel insurance company!!

I left my camera on a train in Switzerland and claimed when I returned to NZ. The camera was 5 years old and still perfect order. The claim system is so difficult to manage. It still fails to recognise the Policy Number, and even my Flight Centre Agent couldnt get in. Eventually I was informed that the claim would be accepted but they decided that depreciation on the camera was 90%!!! So they paid 10% of its 2020 cost. As previous reviews show, Europ Assistance seems to rip people off all the time. Never again.

Europ Assistance fail

Car broke down during return from holiday. They were unable to arrange something for getting us home. They said, "arrange it yourself and we will pay back the expenses". They did arrange getting the car back at our local dealership withing 3 weeks. 3 months later still waiting to get our money back.

Really is a rip off

I booked an apartment in Hoi An, Vietnam, for two weeks and took the add on insurance offered by Airbnb. It's a Europ Assistance policy.
We arrived as the 'worst floods since 1964' started and on day two our accommodation was flooded and we were evacuated by boat.
I contacted Europ Assist and their immediate reaction was to deny any liability or responsibility. A
I did challenge there 'no liability claim' and their answer was to inundate me with reams of terms and conditions. Europ Assist, are truly a useless scam. And really, scam is the absolute correct word for this nefarious Company.

This company is the worest

This company is the worest. I paid for their car insurance thinking I would have a peace of mind. I rented a vehicle in Italy, went shopping and returned to a rear bumper damage on my rental. When I went to return the car I ended up paying for the damage from my pocket. I submitted the claim and it took over a month to get a response. They request more documents than anything I ever had to deal with in my life. They make it so difficult to approve my claim. It’s still pending review. It was submitted first week of September and it’s the last week of October and I’m still waiting. Don’t trust Expedia’s insurance recommendations anymore. I didn’t get any support from them either. They just handed me off like nothing.
