From top notch to rubbish bin
Ecco shoes were absolutely top notch, well designed, comfortable, long lasting shoes. What ever happened in the last few years they design and quality have totally diminished. It’s very disappointing to what was a great shoe maker. There must have been a change in direction within the business that reflects this output of poor quality shoes.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
EXCO GRUUV: DEFINITELY NOT A SHOE FOR LONG WALKS! I recently bought a pair of Gruuv M as a gift for my husband, a keen walker. After walking for less than 20 mins, he developed the worst blister he’s ever had. We contacted ECCO customer service who basically blamed the issue on my husband and were unwilling to help in any way. After many pairs of ECCO shoes, I will never buy their products again. Pathetic and extremely disappointing customer service.
Disintegrating soles
I have had a comfortable pair of Ecco lace-ups for a few years. About a month ago, I took them on holiday in the UK. They were not subjected to any form of rough terrain or to extremes of hot or cold, although I did walk briefly on a sandy beach with them (not in the sea!). When I took them out of my wardrobe last week, I found that the soles had almost completely disintegrated. My local cobbler has confirmed that nothing can be done to repair them.
This seems to be very much at odds with Ecco's much-vaunted commitments to craftsmanship, technological innovation and indeed, sustainability. (A pair of leather shoes that should have given me several more years of wear will now have to go to landfill.)
Like so many other people, I tried to contact Ecco about this. I was told they 'are not able to process claims for products bought outside their online store'.
This problem with their soles seems to have been ongoing for at least five years and Ecco is doing nothing about it. (There are numerous accounts, including videos online.) Sadly, I will not be buying Ecco shoes in the future and I really would have to advise other people to think twice before doing so.
Avoid!
ECCO service used to be OK - now it is not. In part that is because they use Evri who are awful. Ordered shoes 14 days ago; tracking suggests Evri have (again) "lost" them (they will be sitting in a warehouse because haven't got the delivery staff). Emailed ECCO a few days ago - no reply. Just spoke with them. They acknowledged what tracking told them (that they haven't been delivered) but no offer to reship and before making a refund require me to complete a form confirming I haven't got them!! Lesson: avoid ECCO!
PS The declaration they require is (unbelievably) as follows:
"I can confirm that I have checked with those within my household & neighbours who may have signed or received the goods & the parcel has not been received.
• I have fully checked around my property and have not located the parcel
• I will inform you immediately if it arrives.
• I agree to co-operate with Hermes Loss Prevention &/or the Police in the event of any investigation into the missing items.
• I confirm this declaration is true & accurate in all respects.
• I understand by making a false statement could lead to prosecution
Ecco Golf Shoes
Your Golf shoe quality. I have been purchasing Ecco golf shows for over 10 years. The original golf shoes ( Colour White ) Were great as comfort and in the white color did not come off the toe of the shoes for years. Over the last 3 years, i have purchased 3 pairs of your top-line golf shoes in white. Within have played 12 games the colour comes off the toe area of the shoe. You sell the most expensive golf shoes on the market I would expect a lot better than this. I have FootJoy golf shoes that are 10 years old and the white around the toe area is still fine.
Superb hiking boots and clogs
Bought a pair of hiking boots and a pair of clogs in the Belfast city centre shop a good while ago. Nathaniel is the shopkeeper’s name (the receipt tells me), and his excellent customer service is memorable: he greets you when you arrive but doesn’t crowd you or climb over you. But when you pick up a boot and look around he is right there with an offer to find its comrade. Check your size with the measuring tool? Why not! A few different styles of hiking boots tried, each delightful in its own way, but I choose the Biom 2.1. They have plenty of flexibility in the sole and just enough ankle support. A neat fit due to long laced area of 7 eyelets (the boots will accommodate swollen feet for hiking the morning after a feed of hooch round the campfire, and you can tighten them up as the fluid disperses). Plenty of Goretex. Light and comfortable yet sturdy. My favourite boots ever.
Also delighted with my new clogs, typical black clog look, nice strong leather, big toe box, an extra strap sewed on top of foot. (Note, no option to create slingback style)
Very comfortable. Both pairs are 39. I’m a typical size 39 and they fit me perfectly. So far so perfect. I’ll see how they are after a year or two, or ten…
My previous Ecco footwear is still kicking around, no complaints like those mentioned in other reviews.
Maybe country of manufacture makes a difference? Clogs Made in Portugal.
Biom boots Made in Thailand
Poor quality brand now and customer…
Poor quality brand now and customer care horrific, They seemingly only employ two, as you only get the same two names staff members, on top of which they are extremely toxic and unpleasant to customers…clearly they are allowed to be, this brand was reliable on quality and customer care once upon a time…now if I didn’t have shoes and Ecco were the only shoe company around…I’d make my own out of newspaper or old card board boxes…dreadful 🤗🤗

Now had 3 pairs of boots/shoes where the soles just disintegrated. It appears to be a known problem. Tried to get compensation and they make you jump through ridiculous hoops - ask you to cut off the uppers and photograph them when I have already sent a dozen photos of the problem. Will not be buying again. Surprised the company is still in business.
So much for easy returns.
I ordered shoes on-line that are to large and are near impossible to return. A returns note in the box advises to sign in to your Ecco account and go to the returns portal. The returns portal advises that you need to use (non existent) Label and returns form from within the shoe box. The customer care telephone line automated without people and the website email link doesn't work. So much for easy returns.
poor customer service
took a pair of sandals back to the oxford street store with the receipt and boxed as the uppers had a fault and started peeling . at first they wanted me to exchange them for a different pair there and then. I didn't have time to do this. After they had spoken to their supervisor on the phone several times they eventually offered me a 12 month gift voucher, they flatly refused a refund, what happened to consumer rights !!
Terrible customer service
Started buying ecco shoes in Poland, what a excellent customer service there. Came to shop for them in uk nothing but problems. I bought 2 pair the same shoes as I wasn't sure of the size return one and was waiting MONTH! for refund despite that I got notification from parcel that shoes where delivered back to warehouse within few day. When I contact them, their reply was that they need to send shoes to Polish warehouse and they couldn't even explain why they had to do that.
Second pair we found out had defect, and I had to drive an hour to the closes shop as online shop didn't want to take it back. Its just ridiculous. They doing great job of how to lose customers. Well done.
buying ecco shoes whilst on holiday
i bought a pair of ecco sandals, whist on holiday in playa blanca lanzarote, the soles are crumbling after on ly 3 times wearing them. ecco have told me its not their problem, take it up with the shop, i have emailed the shop several times, with no reply. have i got NO rights in this matter, 90euros of my money and ive got a very inferior product
Expensive Ecco golf shoes
Bought a pair of expensive Ecco golf shoes but the UK 8-8.5 (based on their sizing guide) was MILES TOO SMALL – couldn't actually get my foot into the shoe. I normally take a 7.5 in Footjoy shoes.
My email to their customer services was met with '...have a wonderful day... your money will be refunded' – eventually. I sent the shoes back February 1 and might well have to wait until the middle of March to get my money.
Why can a retailer take your money in a few seconds but take 6 weeks to return it?
Crap response, crap sizing information, crap service.
Poor quality shoes
The shoe sole partially came off, and this happened after one month of wearing, wore it occasionally.
Very disappointed with the quality of one if most trusted brands.
I'd give it zero stars but there isn't…
I'd give it zero stars but there isn't a category. I was recently gifted not one but two pair of Ecco formal shoes. Within 25 m of walking from my house to car and from car to work the soles had disintegrated. I was minded of 'is it Cake?' and wondered if someone was pranking me!! And then again with the second pair!!! Apparently this issue has been occurring for some 16 years and still the company does nothing against this alleged 'hydrolysis' issue. I am 50 - I have had a lot of shoes and this is the first time this has ever happened. I can only concur this is a fake company with a fake product and its scammer directors should be jailed for false advertising and running a scam. Not shoes!! Rubbish.
Would have been better off putting my money on a horse
Shoes never turned up on delivery date. I have complained and filled out an ECCO refund form but have had no further communication from ECCO, no shoes and no refund.
What a waste of time, money and energy!
I traveled over 20 miles to your store…
I traveled over 20 miles to your store in Bromley, Kent to purchase some shoes only to find it is no longer open. Absolutely fuming your website needs to be regularly updated. I will now have travel to London tomorrow to try on and purchase some shoes! Having been a customer for many years this is unacceptable!
I've been an ecco fan for over 30 years…
I've been an ecco fan for over 30 years now, but quality over the last few years has fallen off a cliff. Example - €200 for Goretex hiking boots, they leaked, brought back and exchanged, replacement leaks, changed to a different type, they also leaked! A good pair of eccos used to last for years, now feel cheap but aren't.
All's well that ends well
Mens sandals:
3 years of summer use on flat surfaces. I don’t climb mountains!
Soles peeling off. Straps pulling out. The whole thing cracking across the middle. It’s going to end up in two parts.
Stains after getting wet.
A shame, because they are really comfortable but for the price, you would expect something that didn’t fall apart.
A polite request to Ecco came back with a standard response to take them back to the dealer because they couldn’t help. Of course they could help, they chose not to.
I appreciate liability rests with the dealer but these were purchased by my ex who traded me in for a new model so getting the receipt of finding out where they came from is not an option.
Disappointing. Very.
BUT ..RESULT...
After a few exchanges of emails, I have been offered a GBP57 voucher off a new pair of sandals from the online shop which is a good result and it’s a shame that they didn’t offer that in the first place. I had to send a photograph of the straps cut off which is not unreasonable.
I have had use from them so it’s about half price. Happy now. So I have updated my rating.
Very expensive shoes, sole falls apart and stains!
Two weeks ago I went to a black tie event and my
City Barcelona in Black 2009 stuck to the floor and stained the carpet, I changed into my 25 year old wedding shoes! The next day i checked all my Ecco’s and the City New York in Brown 2008 did the same! I complained and sent them in and Ecco NZ said they could give me a $160 voucher. That would pay for 1/2 a pair! The bloody things stained my carpet, any knowledge about what to do here?
