website info was misleading
I placed my order on Djerf Avenue back in March this year.
I have bought countless items from the EU since Brexit (I'm based in the UK) so I'm well aware of the potential extra costs of VAT & Customs. On other websites, it's always been very clearly stated that customs and VAT aren't included in the price (I always check) so I know what to expect. Other companies would include the fee at checkout so everythings paid upfront, so customers won't need to pay anything extra to receive their shipment from DHL.
I received my order from DHL (I've received many EU orders from DHL before and if I needed to pay anything, they always ask me to pay the VAT & Customs, before they deliver my shipment). This didn't happen for my Djerf Avenue shipment so I assumed that everythings already been sorted.
Once I received my order, I made a return on the same day as the blazer didn't fit right. I checked the Djerf Avenue site to see what I needed to know about the return process and I acknowledged that it would cost me £15 for the return fee. Alls well with the return process and refund.
The issue came in June. I received a letter from DHL to tell me they've passed on my details to their legal department because I owed them money for this Djerf Avenue order (30% of my order amount). I was shocked and confused. I didn't receive anything prior to this threatening letter, so I called DHL to enquire. I had told them I have returned the item and they told me to simply email DHL the proof of export and that the company have received the return, so I did. But then the response I received from DHL was that DHL have paid HMRC and DHL will not be responsible and I needed to pay them the amount if I didn't want to go to court and be sued, they said I would need to send a physical letter to HMRC to make a claim if I want it refunded.
I emailed Djerf Avenue's customer service and they told me "Since you have returned your item to us, you do not need to pay DHL the import charges they are requesting. We kindly recommend reaching out to them and letting them know that you have returned your items back to us" - even though in my message to Djerf stated that I already told DHL I have returned the shipment to Djerf. So the CS at Djerf wasn't helpful at all. I didn't want my credit score to be tainted so I paid the amount to DHL. I proceeded to look at filling in the form on HMRC but they required information I didn't have for the shipment.
At this point I have spoken to 5-6 different people at DHL, no one can provide the information I needed to make a claim at HMRC because apparently the waybill number doesn't exist.. I would speak to someone in one department and they would ask me to call another department, then that department would tell me to call the previous department and so on. Because no one at DHL can provide the information I need to fill in the claims form for HMRC, I won't be able to make a claim to get my money back.
I have wasted so much of my time and unnecessary stress because of this experience. All this happened because Djerf Avenue wasn't clear with what would happen to shipments to the UK. If they had stated clearly that DHL would be delivering the shipment and then they will be sending a letter for the VAT & customs for payment afterwards, all of this could be prevented. This information was NOWHERE to be found. Even though if I had known this, I wouldn't have placed the order in the first place.
I feel very misled and tricked by this company. I have received no concrete support form Djerf Avenue. I would never consider purchasing from this company ever again and neither would I recommend it. The worst shopping experience I've ever had.
Edit: 20/7/23 - after leaving a message on Djerfs website and this review. One of their CS emailed me and was very nice and offered to issue a refund for the amount I had to pay to DHL. So I’m happy that this is now resolved.
The best customer service experience ever!!
I have loved Djerf Avenue clothes for a few years now but their customer experience is exceptional. I have had my jeans for 3 years and I was so upset when the zipper broke. I contacted Djerf Avenue and they immediately offered to repair or replace my jeans. The whole team was so lovely and really kept me in the loop for the whole process. Also, the best jeans ever, I just wore them to death!!
10/10 SERVICE
Such kind customer service! I bought a dress which didnt fit right and wanted to exchange for the taller model; that is not free while just getting another size they will exchange for free. I emailed the customer service and got a extremely quick and empathic / kind response. They offered me to exchange it without extra costs and pay for my delivery!!! I never bother to e-mail customer service bc I feel like they never care but this felt like a personal response and someone who genuinely cared and thought along. Thank you so much for the personal approach and helping me out, you would never get such service from a big brand and this makes me so much more excited to keep supporting smaller brands!! Thanks Djerf Avenue team 🤍
LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!
LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!
Matilda Djerf clearly just wants your money. I purchased a t-shirt from this brand - £65.00
When it arrived, it was see through - very poor quality and very creased. Very light weight, put it this way, you could pick up a better quality item in H&M.
This company claim to sell high quality garments that last a life time. SOOOO misleading.
I also got charged an extra £41 import tax which WAS NOT MADE CLEAR AT POINT OF CHECKOUT.
So for a towel (stitching was iffy), a pair of socks and a flimsy tshirt with a poor quality print and materials - I paid over £200.
Wow just wow, and they haven't replied to my messages. Poor.
Super kind and helpful
Talked to the sweetest person the whole time when there was a stressful issue with my order and they ensured the problem was fixed quickly. I could’t be happier with my experience!
I love shopping at Djerf Ave
I love shopping at Djerf Ave. the self supported return channel works very well. I shop a lot of clothing from Djerf ave and I also return some pieces every now and then - I have never had any troubles with the shipping and refund process. I love the clothes - it feels amazing to wear. A little pricey and maybe also too pricey, but not enough to keep me away ;-)
Beware of custom charges for delivery…
Beware of custom charges for delivery to UK, £40.66 to pay. Not clear on website that you will have these charges. Daughter loves the clothes but will not be buying from here again
sweet, chic and unique sustainable brand
Obsessed with Djerf Ave! I love the dreamy and summery collections from this brand. The Customer Service Agents respond so quickly and with such love & care for your items.
Shout out to Laura! You’re a star
Excessive Shipping Charges
I read Djerf's website carefully to make sure I wouldn't be charged extra import charges (as shipping already includes a close to £25 payment to DHL)...just received a bill of £50 for one item.
It really isn't clear on the website that this is a further charge and makes any item £100 + !
Love shopping from Djerf!
While I see a lot of reviews here being negative, both about the return policies and customer service, I have yet to have a bad experience with this brand.
I have received quick responses, help with returns regarding the payment and general info about products! Additionally, they are so nice when emailing with them!
And I can agree that paying a kinda large fee (compared to other stores) to return something is a downside with this brand, but other than this I love it and site and the customer service!!! Also the shipment takes such a short time, and the quality of the clothes is amazing!
Djerf Received My Return 3 Weeks Ago & Still No Refund
Djerf acknowledged receipt of my return three weeks ago and I still have not received my refund. I reached out to customer service after 14 working/business days had passed (since they mention it can take up to 14 working days to process a return); however, customer service has not responded to my message. Quality of the clothing is subpar — especially for the price. In light of the low quality clothing, non-existent customer service, and failure to honor the stated terms of their return policy, I would recommend avoiding this company.
I love my Djerf pieces
I love my Djerf pieces! I think sometimes the prices are a bit high, but I like the styles and never had any troubles. Also don't understand the tax reviews, this is so unfair to the brand. You should know about this and always look up beforehand when you're ordering from abroad to the UK.
Only very good experiences!
I have been ordering over one year and only had amazing experiences with DA as a brand and the customer service. An answer from the CS may take up to 3 days but I never had the feeling to receive automatic responses except for the automatically generated email when first reaching out to them. My issues were resolved quickly and with a lot of patience. Regarding the clothes: I never had clothes that fit me and represented my personality better and I am extremely grateful for DA, the team, Matilda and Rasmus (the founders). Once I had a quality issue with a dream skirt which was also resolved very quickly. Overall I can strongly recommend the brand and their products.
Inspiring, Inclusive & Caring!
I love everything DA. I can honestly say I own most of what this brand has put out, clothing, homewares etc. Not only are their creations timeless pieces that can be used year round, they always make me feel my best when wearing them! Matilda & her team make everyone feel welcome and included - they created have one of the most safe, size inclusive online brands that I've ever seen. There is representation for everyone. Everyone at Djerf Avenue keeps me inspired, wether that be business wise or just how to style their pieces unconventionally. Any time I've had an issue, they are very quickly to resolve that for me. Example: I had worn a DA Jacket with one of their white tank tops and some color transfer happened with the dark inside of the jacket to the tank. I spoke with their customer service team and they answered in a timely manner, and resolved my issue. They took back my blazer to be dry cleaned and replaced my white tank top. I didn't even think either would be possible, as I've never experienced anything like this. Usually brands/stores don't offer to help or take back worn items, so this was so kind of them! <3
Lack of warehouse control/Difficult shipping process
I've ordered with Djerf about 3 times now and I've run into problems with them 2 out of those times already. I am a US customer and I love Djerf for their quality, lovely prints and inclusivity that the brand represents. But they seem extremely unprepared for EVERY big drop they've had so far. I've dealt with their new website and unable to purchase anything as the website was not up to par for the public. And the recent robe restock (one of their most popular items), many people including myself waited over 2 weeks for the order just to ship out. Every time I reached out to customer service, they said they cannot have clear communication from their warehouse...so the lack of control over their warehouse worried me as a customer as I also received unclear communication from their team (they told me it would ship with DHL but I got a shipping notification from UPS etc..). I had to push back my traveling plans during the holidays twice to wait for the package. Once it was shipped, I then had troubles with UPS, hence, it has been a hassle ordering with Djerf.
On top of that, you have to make at least a $200 order to qualify for free shipping yet the process of getting your orders to ship is always extremely dramatic. And was charged with duties after the deliveries as well and those were not cheap.
I hope the team can work on this issue and have better control of their warehouse/communication. I've had more than one difficult orders with them so I'm hoping for a smoother purchases with Djerf Avenue in the future.
Dream brand - ethical, intentional & so empowering!
Djerf Avenue is my favourite clothing brand! Last year I set the intention to curate my wardrobe with pieces that would be ethically made, versatile and timeless. Since making that decision, I have purchased 12 Djerf items, all of which I have now worn countless times in so many different contexts and in so many different ways. While the prices can initially be a bit intimidating, it is so worth it because it's an investment in a wardrobe that is ethically produced, amazing quality and materials and pieces that I'll have for years! I seriously feel SO good in every item and love how I feel in them. Also, shout out to the team - their community management and customer service has always been a 10/10 for me, and the diversity and representation within the brand is brilliant & is setting an excellent example for others. So happy to be a DA customer!
This company is honest
This company is honest, authentic, genuine, and my favorite one there is. They are quick to fix any issue and are so helpful in every way. They truly listen to their customers and want to serve them. My latest order came SO quickly and they were quick to give me tracking and reach out. I’ve never found a company quite like them and I know that they are setting the standard for customer service and community scope within a brand. The best of the best! So grateful for them.
My experience with Djerf Avenue is…
My experience with Djerf Avenue is always amazing! Their customer service team is so sweet and responsive whenever I reach out. The quality of their products is second to none, and the brand’s mission is something I am proud to support.
A brand that listens!
I love DA because they truly appreciate every single person who has ever supported them and it shows in the way they create fun events for customers, pop ups, gift products and always ask for feedback on what they can improve!
I recently had the pleasure of being a model for them for their extended size XXXL and I felt so taken cared of and safe in that environment. They listen and make sure you feel good every step of the way.
The products themselves are of SUCH good quality! I can say that comparing to other brands who are not on the same level. The items I own from DA feel so luxurious and I know they will hold up for a long time which is exactly what I look for when buying clothes. My only feedback would be that some of the items in XXXL (my usual size) tend to run on the smaller side. I would appreciate if the items were made more "oversized" or just run more on the larger/true to size kind of side because this is the biggest size and us plus size peeps can't go up a size more. I'd rather be able to go down if I want something more snug! Other than that I have zero "complaints" and truly am so grateful for this brand and all that they do. I know they will always listen and improve and that is exactly why I continue supporting them!
