Cycle Breaks has been organising self-guided cycling and walking holidays since 1991, from our base in Suffolk, England. Each holiday includes hand-picked hotels, daily luggage transfers and clear route notes or GPS navigation. Because no two tours suit every rider, we are very happy to work with you before booking to match your fitness and expectations to the right trip — and we'd rather not sell a holiday than sell you the wrong one. We look after all arrangements directly for our itineraries in England (Suffolk, Norfolk) and work with trusted local partners across Austria (The Austrian Lakes, The Danube, Mur River Valley), France (Alsace, The Dordogne, Languedoc, Loire Valley, Provence), Germany (Baltic Coast, Lake Constance, Moselle, Munich Lakes), Italy (Trentino/SudTirol, Piedmont, Puglia, Tuscany, Veneto), Portugal (Algarve, Alentejo) and Spain (Catalonia, Rioja, Valencia), plus Bike & Boat holidays in Austria, France, Belgium, Holland, Hungary and Italy. We welcome solo travellers, couples, families and groups, with e-bikes available in most areas.

Excellent customer service throughout and a wonderful choice of palazzos and interesting hotels over a fascinating route. The local food was delicious, the skies permanently blue, we managed to navigate using the gps (which was a first!) and the actual cycling didn’t kill us. So what not to like!
Another well planned and enjoyable cycle tour. Well chosen route on cycle paths and quiet roads and visiting interesting places. Well planned daily distances giving time to explore or stop for tea and scones. The notes were, as usual, very good, highlighting interesting places along the route. We also thoroughly enjoyed our non-cycling days in Kings Lynn and Norwich - both steeped in history but not over touristy.
Good bikes, excellent accommodation, lovely countryside (Mur River Valley Austria), easy track, complicated written travel notes - hard to read while cycling. Overall a superb trip.
This was a great holiday. The route was clear, the hotels were great and the luggage transfer every day was faultless. All four hotels along the route were in great locations. It was certainly stress-free having everything planned for you.
Our experience with cycle breaks was very good. They were responsive and attentive. Their local partner took care of all the details on the ground and helped us as needed. The hotels selected were great varying from rural houses to old restored homes and boutique hotels.
A perfect introduction to bicycle touring.
This was such an enjoyable way to see countryside France in our own way! The bikes were great, accommodation delightful and when we needed help it was there.
Beautiful route, lovely accommodations, great maps and service. I would definitely recommend Cycle Breaks. It was unfortunate that we had rain but cycling through one day of rain was ok since we had good rain gear..
This was our fourth Cycle Breaks tour and we loved cycling
around Lake Constance and seeing the picturesque
villages. We liked that it was primarily cycling on a bike path that was
fairly level with minimal on-road biking. Cycle Breaks provides excellent tours for people who like to visit lesser known villages, mingle with the locals and travel unguided.
Cycle Breaks are good and trustworthy. However biking in England is less agreeable than on the continent, due to a lack of cycle paths.
We rang week before trip to book so very much a last minute booking which was handled to perfection. Great communication - the trip itself was our first cycle break and it was so well organised - from hotels booked to luggage transfers. The bikes were quality and gps system fantastic. Additional
Maps and information also fantastic. Only regret we have is that we didn’t book a 14 day trip with 2 nights in each location as the places we stayed were so awesome. Thanks Cycle Breaks we had a ball .
Norfolk may be the flattest and dryest county in the UK but there are certainly hills and wet weather in May! Having said that, there is plenty to see along the way and the excellent overnight accommodations allowed us to relax in comfort at the end of each day. My favorite memory would be cycling along deserted country lanes listening to the birds in the hedgerows. That and a great fish and chips on the seafront in Wells-next-the-sea.
Lovely cycling holiday from the volcano area near Olot, to the coast. Well organised, bikes delivered on time, lovely hotel choices, luggage transferred with no problems... great area to cycle in. Would recommend an upgrade on the bikes if available, as city bikes not the best for 30 mile gravel tracks, but they got us there 😉 Make sure you have google maps available to use as a back up, as route directions not the best if you go off course. But, all in all a fabulous trip which I would highly recommend 🚲
The Cycle Breaks Sea to Shining Sea Trip was the highlight of our trip to Italy. We had the opportunity to explore areas and towns that we would neve have seen. The bikes, gear, and GPS were excellent. Luggage transfers and hotels were very good. Cycle Breaks accommodated our ask for an extra day without issu. We would definitely use them again for our next trip to Europe!
I cannot honestly say this Cycle Breaks Suffolk Smoothie was a 5 star experience, but that was my own fault for opting to go in foul weather at the darkest time of year. There was a small window in my diary, and having enjoyed a 3 day cycling holiday in northern Spain with Cycle Breaks earlier in the year, I went to Suffolk to check them out on their home ground, with a view to using them again in 2019. I am happy to confirm that Mike and Andy of Cycle Breaks can be relied on to provide excellent service, whatever daft requests their customers come up with.
My 17 year old son and myself really enjoyed our two day cycling break and the trip was well organised, and hassle free and the service very friendly. The bikes were good quality and the routes were great. We were blessed with perfect Autumn weather and would recommend this trip.
A great and highly recommended largely traffic free leisurely cycle ride through a quintisessential Bavarian landscape of alpine meadows, meandering cycle paths, lakes, rivers and alpine views and German hospitality in the village restaurants and bars en route. With lively Munich at the start and the Sound of Music Salzburg at the end there is nothing not to like.
This is a short review of our cycling tour of the wine route of the Alsace in the Bas and Haut Rhin Departements of the Grand Est of France this September 2018. It had 6 days cycling, 7 nights accommodation and therefore encompassed 8 days with travelling to and fro. It started and finished in Strasbourg reaching Guebwiller at the southernmost point.
Most of the hotels booked by Cycle Breaks for our tour were very good. The Hotel Le
Relais de L'Ill especially was excellent, the best of the set, except for one tiny point in that the towels were festering slightly (i.e. smelly). The worst of the set was Maison Rouge in that we we arrived at 1600 and they didn't open until 1700, then the room we were given had not been cleaned (towels on floor, unmade bed, etc.). The attitude when informed was that was "an error". No remorse! That said the replacement room was OK. There were only three couples staying that night so there must have been plenty of choice.
We would definitely consider taking a holiday via Cycle Breaks again. The booking procedure was painless. The GPS files supplied worked perfectly with our Garmin units so we didn't get lost, though there was a traditional paper backup just in case. The distances covered each day were just right for the two in the party of 4 who are not regular cyclists.
One little point others may want to be aware of is that France is very much closed on Sundays and Mondays. When cycle touring this can be an issue but one solution to the perennial "where share we stop for coffee/tea?" question is to seek hotels where such refreshments are often served in the lobbies. Business is business after all!
Great Holiday with cycle breaks. Phantastic bikes, good Hotels with spacious Rooms, Maps and other Information leaflets sufficient. The danube cycle path is easy to cycle and there are plenty of Hotels on the way but it was of great help that the Hotels were booked in Advance. Luggage was Always there on time.
A very enjoyable 3 days of cycling, which is gentle and straightforward taking in some stunning coastal scenery and overnighting in 3 lovely old towns, each of which is worth a visit to see the historic places of interest and plenty of restaurants, shops, etc. This is our 4th holiday with Cycle Breaks, all of which have been excellent so we shall continue to be repeat customers. There are plenty more cycling holidays to try!
