I'm a pensioner only had about £11 but need the money,I lost it all

I should have read the reviews before heading towards the coinstar machine today.
I had a shopping bag 1/4 full of 1p and 2p which I have been saving for years. I was gobsmacked when the machine handed me £4.11pence. Shock horror!!!
I have been counting coins for years and know that I should have received at least (worst case scenario) £20.
This machine should be illegal.

My mum who is 70 years old, put all her change in and the machine broke. She had to wait 7 weeks for them to count what she'd put in, for the to say she had £10. She saved up for 7 months. There's absolutely nothing we can do about it. You don't even deserve 1 star.

I wish there must be minus star option. I will give this fraud machine zero star. Its a bogus machine. I did two transactions as I didnt know how to use machine. It gave me £0.6 and 2.03. While I gave the change for £3. This machine is swallowed my 4 coins too. Never use this mafia machine. I learned it the hard way. I called the customer service and she said she couldnt help as I accepted the terms before starting. Very unpleaseant experience.

DO NOT USE COINSTAR!!!
I hand counted my change 2 times(mainly 2,1 pound coins and 50p)
Came up as roughly £280 with the small change in the middle and machine only counted £255!!!
And deducted £29 pounds on top!!!
I'm beyond dissapointed
Won't be using again!!!

A lovely sparkling machine counted up my coin collection very accurately. It did take a few 'pours' of coins though,as it seemed to only accept about £2.50 at a time. Eventually I got all my coins in and vouchers out. A couple of days later I did my Morrisson shop and was kicked in the balls as the vouchers had expired. No wonder the machine was so sparkly. Use them on the same day!!! I look forward to reading in the paper that the owners are all safely in jail and the scam has been shut down. I will gladly help the recievers take a sledgehammer to as many of their machines as my strength will allow.

Three times (three different machines) it has refused to accept more than 40 coins. A transaction fee is charged each time of course - and once the coins are in, there is no way to cancel your transaction and get the coins back.

Many thanks to the 2 Coinstar customer service staff who dealt with incident 410263, and validated and enforced Morrisons Supermarket to pay out my cash having refused to do so.

Used coin star machine in Tesco congleton, unfortunately did not know it needed to be used the same day. A week later went to customer service to be told receipt had expired and was told they could do nothing about it and to ring coin star which I did when I got home. The said there is no expiry date and to go back to customer service with an incident number. I did this today to be told by customer service that they can not pay out only on the same day. Ahhh. Why oh why can’t coin star and Tesco communicate with each other. Customer services told me it was their policy because they had had a lot of fraudulent transactions. They told me to phone Tesco head office. This is just ridiculous if the company I worked for treated customers this way we would be out of a job.

The surcharge is so much that you need something like three old sweet jars of coppers to get anything!
The machine is no good for exchanging the dreaded cooper coins,which is what people want it for.
Coinstar is clearly not a
profitable business,they don't like pennies and two pennies any more than us!

That's a minus star. These machines are systematically stealing the money of those most affected by systematic theft. I used one last Friday for the first time - hey, we are all feeling the pinch. Me being me I counted my coins first. Effing machine just didn't take the 10.9% fee but another 35% of my cash just vanished into the ether. I then had almost an hour of my time stolen by speaking to "customer patroniser" in the Phillipines who promised me to send me a link. Nothing in almost a week. Just scammers and thieves. It's disgraceful. You stole from the wrong customer Coinstar.

So I went to change up some pennies I had- I went to Tesco in Andover. I went to change up my pennies then do my shopping but as I got there the machine was at the far end of the shop behind the tills so I decided to shop and then change up my coins and use the voucher next time.
This was what I did.
Come to today - a week later- back to tesco for my weekly shop. On paying for my shopping they refused my £15 voucher saying that you ‘had to go to customer services to get the change’.
This seemed silly as the point was to get rid of my change my off I toddled to customer services.
Upon queing at customer services they told me you had to use the voucher the day OF changing your pennies into a voucher.
There is nothing I can do and when I called customer services of coinstar they said that I would have to go back to the Tesci, talk to a member of staff and show them the ‘incident number’ coinstar had given me- and failing that get Tesco to call them! I asked if they could instead email me a fresh voucher to which they replied ‘no’.
So I thanked the lady politely and hung up as there was no point continuing on. I work 6 days a week and I haven’t the time to go back to Tesco to deal with it.
So I urge anyone who would like to use this machine to NOT. And spend your individual pennies elsewhere - NOT here.

Very poor experience. I tried to use the voucher at the self-checkout in Sainsburys which told me I had to cash in the voucher at the cigarette kiosk first. There was a queue of 12 people there, and one lady serving so I thought I'd come back the next day. The next day I was told it has to be cashed on the day and I should phone Coinstar. I phoned Coinstar who gave me an incident number and told me to go back to the shop as they would definitely pay this time. Well I went back, only to be told "Sorry, there's nothing we can do about it, it says it's already been paid"! So I phoned Coinstar again, who told me to email them and they would issue a refund. I have a now emailed them twice and received no response. I guess the only thing I can do now is report it as a theft, which seems petty, but that's exactly what it is.

Dont use Coinstar if you are not planning to use the voucher the same day. I tried to use my voucher several days later at Asda Hatherley Cheltenham and was told it was not valid after one day. RUBBISH, there is nowhere in the terms and conditions that it states this, so take your cash to the bank. ROBBERY. There is no other word to describe this. TODAY IS 20.01.2024. I received a cheque from Coinstar for my full amount, thank you COINSTAR. Remember, folks, there is nowhere that it states the voucher only lasts one day. That is what the shop tells you, Coinstar advise you to use your voucher the first day to avoid it being lost or stolen. THE SHOPS ARE ROBBING YOU.

Ripoff don’t use them. ASDA should remove them, disgusting to charge such a fee on a large change. £15 for £150 in change is absolutely disgusting to do such a thing. ASDA just lost a whole family of customers because of it.

Seems to be a common issue with this company. Tiny writing at the biottom of the receipt to 'use the credit note today' ! Why would I read the receipt its normally sales rubbish anyway. Why isn't there a large sign on thre front of the screen stating this ? Why isn't it 28 days like other credit notes are ? They can literally steal your money and get away with it. Customer service non exsistant ! So they're getting away with stealing peoples money scott free, absolute daylight robbery

Thives,i didn't know that they charge you for it . Put 100 of £1 in the machine and gave voucher for £88 !!!!

They steal from you ,avoid this .take your change to any cornershop and they'll be happy to exchange it to notes for you .

I have contacted coinstar four times by phone each time they have given me a different customer services email. All bounce back no-one on the phone is helping. I cannot get my money for thr vouchers. The machine was in Sainsbury north Finchley Sainsbury have refused to help me despite writing to their customer service and despite the machine being in their shop. It looks like a scam to keep people’s money

Absolutely raging at the fact they don’t PRINT on the VOUCHER it needs to be used that DAY so basically a have a voucher for over £40 which is of no use now one customer service desk to stand at were the que at Asda is basically out the door so thinking a will cash it in tomorrow or this week NOT knowing this is what there doing to people SCAMMERS!!!!!!!

They work fine, and most of the issues reported here could be solved by better signage and instructions. I used one at Asda, knowing that they take a certain percentage and that the voucher is only valid on the day, but it saves a trip to a bank that still operates, spending time counting into bags, and then queuing up to cash it in. If there was a better sign that explained the points made above, it should also explain that the voucher can be cashed at customer services (if you can find it) or at an attended till when shopping.
