I am very grateful for your consistently kind and prompt responses. This time, I received the same level of care for both the initial consultation and follow-up visits regarding my eyes, a delicate area that carries a risk of blindness.

Bupa refused to cover neurologist-prescribed treatment for an acute migraine episode, despite my certificate stating “Medical History Disregarded”. They instead classified it as a chronic condition, which feels unreasonable and unclear.

I needed an additional approval number for a follow-up visit, decided to use the app and submitted it that way, real quick response and all set.

From my initial phone right through to my appointment with the consultant everything has been excellent. Everything was explained in detail and so that I could understand all the medical details.

I was referred to a clinic that doesn’t have availability and has not yet been in contact to tell me any availability since 07/05.

Bupa quoted my renewal in writing at one price, against the correct address, which I provided directly to them during the renewal conversation and which they reiterated back to me in their own written renewal confirmation. The same figure was independently confirmed by my broker. The renewal was concluded.
Days before the first payment, I got a schedule of payments letter from Bupa.
Bupa unilaterally increased the premium by over 39% - - citing an “address discrepancy.” The cause? Bupa secretly held two address fields, only one of which was ever visible or editable to me in their app. I updated the only field I could see, months in advance. I had no ability to see or correct the hidden one. Their internal data failure, billed to me.
Frontline staff couldn’t explain it, logged a “complaint” with no reference number or written confirmation, and the broker simply blamed Bupa.
This is not how a regulated insurer should behave. Increasing an agreed, confirmed renewal price after the fact, for an error wholly within their own systems, raises clear questions under FCA conduct rules (ICOBS) on fair treatment of customers. Consumers in this position have the right to a formal complaint with defined timescales, escalation to the free, independent Financial Ombudsman Service, and protection under the Direct Debit Guarantee against unauthorised amounts.
Document everything in writing. Demand a complaint reference. Know your rights - they rely on you not knowing them.

Originally, I wanted to obtain an authorisation from Bupa to be seen by a Consultant and perform an echocardiography, as I experienced heart pain and had to be admitted to A&E. When I spoke to the Bupa Operator, she informed me after checking with the medical team, that in order to get things moving for authorisation, I need to make sure that this is not related to myocardial bridge, which is excluded from my policy. She suggested to be referred to by a Bupa private GP (Bupa first scheme), which I did, and the Bupa GP confirmed that my case is not related to this condition. Apparently, this was a waste of time, as then Bupa sent me an application form that needs to be filled by my own GP instead. My GP surgery informed me that this will be treated as non-NHS Private work and will take at least 90 days to complete the form, which I will then have to submit to Bupa for authorisation. I am now considering whether it is worth renewing my subscription with Bupa.

Very good interconnected IT systems and competent friendly staff translated into a seamless service for the insured.
From my online consultation with a GP to his initial diagnosis and referral to a specialist of my choice, my involvement was minimal.
The specialist ordered some tests and gave me a date for his concluding diagnosis. At the consultation the specialist explained his findings re my condition and options how to treat it. He outlined the best option for me and we agreed on a surgical procedure.
He gave me several possible dates and I chose one on the spot.
I contacted BUPA who confirmed that I was covered but requested that I asked the consultant for the name of his chosen the aenethetist for the procedure. I got two possible names, which BUPA confirmed to be on their register. BUPA gave me procedure code, which I forwarded to the consultant's secretary. This involved 2 phone calls to BUPA and 1 text message to the consultant and the details for my procedure were fixed and confirmed within a half a day.
During all this time the hospital of my choice was in the loop and contacted me directly for test appointments and information about the op and the hospital stay.
