I have been with budget energy for at least 4 years now using the keypad option. I have never had any problems with them. Got letter yesterday saying we were coming out of current contract and that the tariff would be doubling in price. I immediately contacted them with phone being answered almost immediately . A very pleasant guy guided me through how tariffs work I only had to mention that it was nearly doubling in price and he straightaway guided me to two best deals of which one was practically the same i had been on previously. I had no signing papers or anything to do and was automatically switched there and then. Can't fault Budget Energy at all and pleasant workers on the phone go a long way. Will definitely never switch from this excellent company.

Switched to a new supplier on 15/03/25 and had to contact them numerous times requesting that they close my account and send me my final bill. Eventually forced them to close my account on 16/04/25 and they issued my final bill. No surprise that my account was in credit and was advised that refunds take 7 weeks….. appalling but company policy apparently. 04/06/25 and still no refund! They also torture you with emails asking for reviews… so here you are!
Website and App are pathetic too

Fine until you try to change to a different energy provider. I left 2 months ago and they still have failed to return over £300 of credit. Despite my phone calls and their excuses over 'not issuing final bill' and 'not processing refund' here I am still waiting.
If they do offer you a good deal, don't let them build up YOUR money in THEIR bank account. They don't like giving it back.

I've spent approximately 4 years as a "customer" of this dreadful service provider and here are the issues I raised with them on more than 1 occasion (I put customer in inverted commas because I think Budget seemed to miss the memo that they should make efforts to provide a good service to customers):
- I've seen superior standards of technology built by teenagers than that provided by Budget (the app & website) to customers to allow them to monitor their account. It is completely amateurish and I think possibly deliberately so. Don't bother trying to raise queries through the technology platforms ... you'll still have to trawl through your emails to see if they responded to your query by email .... and that's IF they respond to your query. There are also multiple other issues with viewing historic meter readings, etc. which when raised with them (as I did on a number of occasions), you'll get told they'll "feed it back to their IT team". Are their IT team actually the GCSE kids in a local high school class (apologies, no disrespect meant to the competence of kids doing GCSE Digitial Technology because to be fair they could probably build better than what Budget offer to customers)?
- you'll never see a final bill ... they'll just OVERestimate your final usage and then take an inflated payment without sending you a bill or any notification they plan to take the payment (and because they remove you from accessing your account when you leave, they'll send you an email to tell you they've generated your final bill and to log in to your account to view it but given that they removed access to your account as soon as you leave, you have no idea how much they will take until the money is gone from your account)
- you'll get offered special offers but watch your bill to see if they'll actually apply them - the last time I signed on to a 12 month tariff with them, it was supposed to come with a £100 loyalty discount and at the end of the 12 months I checked my bills and not surprisingly, I hadn't been credited with my loyalty discount and was told it must have just been a mistake that I wasn't credited it. I wonder how many other customers they made this mistake with?
- Really high charges - I've just moved to another provider with the transfer completing on 23rd March. Since then my 2 bills have been £60.40 and £84.57 with the new provider (Share Energy, and that's just going on to their standard tariff where I'm not locked into a contract). I settled my bill up to date with Budget on 3rd March and the final payment taken by Budget (the bill for which I couldn't see because they blocked me from accessing my account) was £154.97 for 20 days!!! So my new provider charges me £144.97 from 23rd March through to 27th May (more than 2 months) but Budget estimated I owed them £154.97 at final bill for 20 days! This is due to 2 reasons - 1) being Budget’s much higher charges and 2) being they estimate the closing electricity reading as way higher than it should be so they can take a large final payment (this is probably also affecting the new electricity providers because effectively Budget have charged me for electricity that Share Energy have probably actually provided ... electricity providers taking over accounts from Budget need to make sure they are asking the new customers for an actual customer reading on the day of transfer rather than allowing Budget to squeeze out as much as they can from a departing customer with an OVERestimate of final usage
Please, if you have any expectations of an electricity provider with a consistent and professional approach and capable of providing customers with accessible information digitally, avoid Budget Energy.

I missed the deadline for my free credit and when I rang they were so helpful and said it was no problem and gave me the credit anyway as they could see I hadn't taken it in time. Very pleasant on the phone as well, very happy with the service

The Agent was absolutely first class. An absolute Gold standard of Customer service and one one of the best of any organisation I've ever interacted with, even above SKY known to be the best. The Agent is a model for all others to follow. His voice tone and understanding and empathy 5 star

The most expensive energy around, £103 in 3 days just to keep warm! Disgraceful and not recommended as this is a very greedy company
