I’ll stick to Clayton Park!!
Purchased a pie at lunchtime today as I’d never had a Bowens pie before. Halfway through I noticed something stringy in my mouth as I took a bite. I pulled the pie away to reveal a long black hair around 8 inches in length. Of course I didn’t finish it. However, I did write to Bowens via email and quickly received a response from the director Paul Bowen. I have to say that in this day and age, mistakes still happen and being one of their products you’d expect some kind of resolve. Oh no! Totally on the defensive suggesting it didn’t happen m, especially from any of his staff as they have little or no hair at all and all males in the bakery! Then proceeded to state he would be “reaching out to our butter and potato supplier” to “remind them of the importance of wearing the correct PPE”.
Then continued to add that he hoped it wouldn’t put me off a purchase in future. Not it won’t but your attitude certainly will.

Hi Les, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your experience and that our attempts to address your concerns haven’t met your expectations.
While we take all feedback seriously, we’re in a difficult position as we’ve been unable to verify where the pie was purchased. You mentioned it came from a sandwich shop in a different city, but without knowing which one, it’s challenging for us to investigate fully. We supply pies to a range of businesses and while we maintain strict quality control in our bakery, we can’t rule out the handling practices of third-party vendors without more information.
That said, we absolutely understand how unpleasant this experience must have been. Paul’s response was intended to explain the rigorous health and safety measures we follow in our bakery, where our team adheres to strict PPE protocols. We never meant to come across as dismissive - quite the opposite. Paul even reached out personally via phone to discuss this directly, as we felt a conversation might be more constructive, but unfortunately, we couldn’t connect.
As a small, family run business, we genuinely value every customer and take pride in our reputation. While we couldn’t resolve this as you’d hoped, we do appreciate your feedback and regret that you were left feeling disappointed.

Absolutely my favourite pies.
My daughter lives in Munich and every year she orders a selection of pies to be delivered to Leicester for me. I look forward to their arrival as I can't get a decent pie down here. ( They've not heard of Butter pie) They always arrive chilled and never disappoint me, absolutely beautiful pies.

Delivery took over 48 hours and pies were warm to touch on arrival. Bit disappointing because Bowen's pies are very good but they seem to continuously have problems with their online orders and deliveries. This is the 3rd order (out of 4) in 12 months that has either arrived a day late or hasn't even been dispatched. If their cherry pie wasn't my wife's absolute favourite then we would've given up on them already.

We completely understand how frustrating it must be when deliveries don’t meet expectations - especially when it’s something as special as your wife’s favourite cherry pie.
We pack all of our pies in specially designed insulated boxes to keep them fresh, even during delays, but we know that doesn’t take away the disappointment of a late delivery. Unfortunately, the timing of your order coincided with peak periods where couriers are often overwhelmed, but we’re continuously working to improve our processes to prevent this from happening again.
As we mentioned when we spoke, the delay was unfortunately out of our hands, and we agreed that a full refund was the best way to resolve the situation.
Your loyalty means a lot to us, and we’re genuinely sorry this experience fell short of expectations. If you ever decide to give us another try, we’d love the opportunity to ensure everything goes perfectly.

Bowens refused to offer me a replacement free of charge bearing in mind the products only have 5 days shelf life - it would have taken at last 7 !!!

We’re really sorry to hear you feel this way. As your order was placed during the Black Friday period, couriers were handling an unusually high volume of deliveries, which unfortunately caused delays beyond our control.
Customer safety is always our top priority, and as our pies are perishable, we couldn’t risk them being consumed after such a delay. This was as disappointing for us as it was for you, as we never want to let our customers down.
To address the issue, we reached out with an apology and offered a replacement along with a 25% refund or a full refund option. Unfortunately, as a small family business, we couldn’t meet your expectations of a full refund, a free resend of your pie order plus additional cash compensation. Of course, we have given your full refund straight away upon decline of our original offer.
While we completely understand your frustration, we believe we handled the situation with sincerity and tried to resolve it in the best way possible.
We’re sorry we couldn’t meet your expectations on this occasion, and we wish you all the best.

Been to Bowen pies for the first time…
Been to Bowen pies for the first time today. I’m a Wiganer so I’m a pie connoisseur. I had an award winning steak pie and a pork pie. They are very good pies, best I’ve had. Pastry was very good and the meat was the highest quality. You can pick them up and eat them with out the risk of falling apart. I recommend to everyone.
