Rollout version 8.0 for blink cameras does not have backwards compatibility
I troubleshooted my cameras with your technician and found out they are no longer working due to the version that was rolled out of 8.0 and above, and my devices are 7.1 below. Your update did not consider having backwards compatibility which has affected millions of your customers, here is a breakdown as follows.
Official sales count for specific, older hardware versions (like the Fire TV Cube 2nd Gen) with a particular operating system version (Fire OS 7.7 and below) is not publicly disclosed by Amazon. Companies like Amazon generally report broader metrics, such as "active accounts" or "devices sold worldwide," rather than a breakdown by OS version and specific older model. However, based on general market data, product release timelines, and Amazon's public statements, I can provide a high-level estimate and context for the number of devices affected.🌎 Estimated Affected Devices (Fire OS 7.7 and Below)The key takeaway is that the number of affected devices is in the tens of millions, if not higher, globally. In early 2025, Amazon announced that the Fire TV platform had over 200 million devices sold worldwide. Since your target OS version, Fire OS 7 (with minor versions like 7.7), covers devices released roughly between 2019 and 2023, the total number of devices running OS 7 or older is substantial. For a rough approximation of the number of users affected by the cut-off, we can use the reported total Fire TV market share and make reasonable estimations for the distribution of OS versions.🇺🇸 United States (Estimated Active Devices Affected)Based on the market analysis, North America holds a significant share of the global smart TV stick market (around 42% of revenue in 2023).Total Amazon Fire TV Active Users (All Devices/OS): While Amazon announced over 40 million active users worldwide in January 2021, the number of total devices sold is now over 200 million.Approximate US Fire TV Users: The US is a primary market. It's safe to assume tens of millions of active devices in the US are running Fire OS 7 or older. The Affected Devices (Your List): The models you listed (Fire TV Stick Max 2nd Gen, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube 2nd Gen, Fire TV Stick 4, Echo Show 2nd Gen) are all high-volume, popular sellers from the era pre-Fire OS 8.Device Category (US Estimate)Approximate Affected Devices (Fire OS 7.7 and Below)All Fire TV & Fire TV Edition TVs~25 - 40+ Million (Significant portion of total US active Fire TV devices)Your Specific Devices (Subset)~10 - 20 Million (A large subset of the total, due to their popularity)🌍 Other Countries (Estimated Active Devices Affected)Amazon Fire TV has a strong international presence, being the No. 1 streaming media player platform in markets like the United Kingdom, Germany, India, and Japan. Europe and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region are the next largest markets after North America. Region/Market Estimated Affected Devices (Fire OS 7.7 and Below)Europe (UK, Germany, etc.)~15 - 25+ Million Asia-Pacific (India, Japan, etc.)~10 - 20+ Million Other Regions (Canada, Lat Am, etc.)~5 - 10+ Million Total Affected Worldwide~50 - 90+ Million💡 Summary of Impact The transition of your camera system to only support Fire OS 8.0 and above likely affects a very large user base worldwide. Area Conclusion Affected Devices Tens of millions of devices globally, easily surpassing 50 million. Your Dilemma Your situation is shared by a massive, global user group who are dependent on these devices for smart home integration. The number of people is large enough that the camera system vendor is consciously abandoning a significant portion of the Amazon ecosystem. The Rollout The update to Fire OS 8.0 essentially sets a new minimum API level for app development, which is why your camera system's new app version is incompatible. This is a common practice in tech ecosystems but often strands older, still-functional hardware. Given the scale of the affected devices and the popularity of the older hardware, your decision is a strategic one: Buy new, compatible devices (Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd Gen or newer Fire TV Cube/Stick): This is the path of least resistance for device compatibility and ensures you are on the current OS for future updates. Buy new cameras that support your older Fire OS 7.7 devices: This option is less future-proof, as other apps and systems may soon follow the move to Fire OS 8.0 as the minimum supported version. Would you like me to search for the current prices and features of the newest generation Fire TV devices to help you evaluate the cost of upgrading your hardware?
Unreliable, horrible if using WiFiWi-Fi.
These cameras are so unreliable if you're linking then to wifi. I'm lucky if I can pull up video on any of my wifi linked cameras. I could have a full signal and still nothing. Decent for hard wire though.
Charged for subscription YEARS after canceling
I bought cameras and used for maybe a year. Immediately canceling my subscription. Over 5 years later I get charged 39.99 for my subscription. Super shady! Stay away from this mess!
BLINK SUPPORT FOREIGNERS WORTHLESS WITH HARD TO UNDERSTAND ACCENTS
Spent a day risking my 70-year-old body's life and limb in sketchy situations climbing ladders and installing 3 wired outdoor motion light cameras. Spent the following 4 days trying to get them to join the "network" which has been a total failure. I have tried everything in the book several times, scanned internet for any possible solution. Have placed 3 different calls to 3 different hard-to-understand foreigners which have produced ZERO results. I have Blink doorbell cam with sync module and subscription plan that has worked fine for the last 2 years. However, after messing with it, trying to get other cams working, it now will no longer join or work. I am beyond angry frustrated, I have wasted many hours installing everything and trying to get it all to work. There is nothing easy about this at all. Wish I chose Ring, Don't bother with this crappy system, problems will not be solved through customer support- even if you can understand everything they are saying. First dolt actually recommended me sending them back to Amazon as faulty. Now I need to climb ladders to take them down?? WHAT BS!!! At this point, I'd be happy to just have the motion lights work, so I don't have worthless junk attached to the corners of my house, that's what I got now, about $200 worth of nothing. I replaced my working lights with these, POS junk!!
Can't cancel subscription
My issue, as of this time, is still ongoing. I sold my house and no longer need the doorbell camera subscription. I was told that I could cancel via the app. HOWEVER, the "app" won't let me sign in! It doesn't recognize my email address and won't let me change my password. Every interaction with customer service is a circular conversation. They say "log in and cancel". I tell them I can't. They say they don't recognize my email (which they use to look up my account). I ask them to use other info to look up my account. They say they can't. They still take the automatic withdrawal from my banking account and apply it to my subscription, but can't look up my account? I have had to freeze the banking account and get a new card number to stop the withdrawals! Customer service says the serial numbers I provided don't match any subscriptions either! I don't have the doorbell camera OR it's packaging, so I can't even check! How much you want to bet that once the next payment cycle comes around and their withdrawal is refused, they can suddenly find my account?
Viewing of the camera foggy
Viewing of the camera has become very foggy like there’s condensation on the inside and considering this is an IP rated waterproof device that should not happen, the customer service Person I spoke to asked me to send her an email with some vidio's of the camera viewing, I sent the email twice, both with 3 vido's attached and although they say they did receive the emails they say there was no attachments, that is a lie. I do IT and I know for a fact those attachments are there. I can see them in my sent box so the problem is with their system not receiving them or rejecting them so they need to get tyheir systems sorted out because I’ve now had to go to through Amazon to get a replacement. mmm...maybe that was their intention
About to throw my Blink Devices. Poor Support
About to throw all my Blink Devices because my account was not accessible.
Support is very poor.
Someone should change or change someone.
Currently have 3 out of 4 cameras that…
Currently have 3 out of 4 cameras that went off line and will not resynq with module. Very poor customer service/support I got an AI response to my email on this problem telling me how to sign up for the monitoring contract, nothing about my issue. Spend more time going up and down a ladder trying to get these things to work then it’s worth. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for security cameras.
Poor Customer Service
I have a lot of Blink cameras and generally speaking they work well. A couple have had problems though lately and I've had to contact 'customer support'. A misnomer if ever there was! I was met with question after question after question (often seeking photos or screenshots too) - but never a helpful answer. It feels like a war of attrition - hoping the customer will eventually give up. Sadly the opposite happened - so called customer support gave up and now ignore my requests for help. This is not just poor service - it's treating customers with contempt.
I doubt very much this feedback will change anything - any company that can ignore the level of negative feedback on here does not have customer service as a priority. I do hope though that anyone contemplating purchasing Blink cameras will realise that they will hopefully work OK - but if they don't- you will be on your own
Another subscription scam. Useless product without it.
I bought this camera because the sales guy said it didn’t need a subscription. After a couple of months, photos or videos would not save….i now needed a subscription. Garbage.
Also, it didn’t want to work at all because of my VPN. Again…garbage.
I have had blink cameras for over…
I have had blink cameras for over 6years and have had nothing but problems. Cameras go offline all the time and the cameras are always picking up to late on people and things going bye. And no the new problems that have been happening. So you can set what you're picture will look like on the app. For instance I have a picture set for my front porch and it says it the side of the house. When clearly I am trying to look at the front porch but it is saying I am looking at the side of my house. Worst money I ever spent. In 6 years I have paid over $766.00 just for camera space and for the app. It is $10.59 a month. So I switched to eufy cameras. And they are so awesome. With 4 cameras and the home base with 360° cameras and night vision and talk back speakers on it and a flood light too. I got it for $821.00 and I don't have to pay a monthly payment. Just a one time
payment for the system. So don't waste your money or time.
Bought 2 outside cameras
Bought 2 outside cameras. I had account previously and was not allowed to change my phone number for monitoring or logging on. Waited customer service horrible. Then I got an email 4 days later stating I entered the Dsn # wrong. Apparently there are no zeros but you can't tell the letter "O" from zero. Wanted me to re enter again and wait. So I returned them. Will not buy any of their products again.
Blink Blocked Assess with Endless App Update Loop
Blink blocked access to my cameras and paid storage because their new app requires iOS 16 or above and my iPad will not accept the new iOS.
I understand the importance of refining technology but Blink could have been respectful to a large user base by retaining the current level of service and added the additional service (some new viewing options) only in the newer version of the app.
Instead, Blink puts you into an endless loop saying you need to update your app, then when you try to do it, it tells you you can't update it. The functionality of the system is essentially bricked.
Inconsiderate!
Blink cameras are the horrible.
Blink cameras are the worst ever and so is customer service.
We have two blink camera standing right next to each other one battery last a few days while the other one is still working perfectly fine. When contacting support, they keep telling us it's a signal issue that is using up battery life. Even if you tell them that the two cameras are right next to each other one showing the left of our parking area and one showing the right but with the picture overlapping they still have issues saying it's change of temp, signal blah blah blah
Would not recommend blink cameras.
My wireless blink absolutely sucks!!!!…
My wireless blink absolutely sucks and so does customer service. It eats the expensive batteries like crazy, constantly goes off line and I have to call customer service everytime it goes offline or I change batteries. Off now and I can't get it back on even with assistance from customer service. I forgot the password and can't reset because the codes sent to me arrive days after requested. When I try to enter the code it's invalid due to length of time it took to arrive. Customer service says it's because my phone signal to weak to receive the code in a timely manner. Nothing wrong with my phone! There is something wrong with the wireless
doorbell/ camera and customer service though. Both suck; I would ever recommend the item to anyone.
Extremely Disappointed – Please Don’t Waste Your Money on This Camera
This is honestly one of the most disappointing purchases I’ve ever made on Amazon. The Blink doorbell camera has failed twice within just one month, and it’s still under warranty. Whenever it rains or gets humid, the image turns completely blurry and useless, even though we’ve kept the casing perfectly dry.
I contacted customer service many times, but it’s a frustrating and endless process. They keep asking for different photos and information, but by the time they reply, the weather clears up and the issue temporarily disappears — until the next rainy day.
After reading other reviews, I realized this is a common problem affecting many customers. Blink clearly knows about this defect but hasn’t fixed it. A security camera that can’t record properly in bad weather is completely unreliable and defeats its purpose.
I’ve asked for a refund and waited more than a week, but still no response. Very poor product, very poor support.
👉 Save yourself the frustration — do NOT buy this camera.
I purchased the Blink XR4 only 2 are extended range
I purchased the Blink XR comes with 4 cameras just noticed that 2 cam's showed XR upper right hand corner 2 did not! Called customer service they informed me that only 2 are capable with extended range.I bought a systems that says 4 cameras inside no where did it say only 2 would work! Blink screwed me on this purchase ! Buyer beware!
I paid $75 for this
I paid $75 for this. It constantly goes off-line, regardless of what the alleged tech-support people tell you on the phone to relocate the syncing device here or they’re closer to the router closer to the doorbell. It never stays online. I just lost $75 of my hard earned money for nothing.
Beware
Beware. The guys that sold me my blink security cameras told me if I had any questions issues, I could call them. Well, the cameras needed to be adjusted. I called them. They said too bad. Call Blink. I called blink. They said we don't do that. Maybe you shoul call Geek Squad. All they will do is take your money. Now 3 of the 5 have become worthless. Fuzzy blurry clips. No longer record clips at night. They need to go out of business
