Avoid Bespoke entirely
I can honestly say this is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. We have recently won a court case against Bespoke Stairlifts, who were ordered to pay us compensation, interest, and court costs.
If you want to avoid months of stress and anxiety for yourself and your loved ones, please avoid this company.
We arranged for both an external and internal stairlift to be installed at my 90-year-old mother’s home. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and has very limited mobility, so these installations were essential for her safety and wellbeing. Numerous promises and guarantees were made by Bespoke (which is affiliated to Homelife Stairlifts), none of which were fulfilled.
The problems began when Bespoke severely damaged the Portland stone steps at the front of the house during the external installation. Several stone slabs were cracked, splintered, and broken, causing over £4,000 worth of damage. Despite this, Bespoke demanded payment for the external stairlift and stated they would refuse to install the internal stairlift unless we paid, claiming they would recover the damage through their insurance and reimburse us later.
This left our mother effectively trapped in her bedroom, unable to go downstairs or leave the house for hospital appointments with her carers. Under these circumstances, Bespoke’s insistence on payment before completing the internal installation felt completely unacceptable and coercive.
Unfortunately, the internal stairlift installation was almost as bad. During the initial survey, Bespoke promised:
The existing handrail could be moved so my mother’s knees would clear it
Her feet would clear the radiator at the bottom of the stairs
The tracks would curve around the balustrade at the top of the stairs
None of these promises were honoured.
After repeated failures and poor communication, Bespoke effectively stopped responding, leaving my mother with a useless stairlift and broken front steps. We were forced to spend a considerable amount of money fixing the issues ourselves.
This entire experience caused enormous distress to our family and, most importantly, to a vulnerable elderly woman who depended on this equipment to live safely in her own home.
Based on our experience and the outcome of legal action, I would urge anyone considering Bespoke Stairlifts to avoid them entirely.
