I had never played the bass before and I found I could easily play with many songs afterwards.

Luke is an excellent teacher. I have played latin percussion for years and was challenged expanding out from just playing the roots of rhythms. His explanations, drills, and charts have helped me break out of my long standing habit.

Luke is an excellent instructor with a clear understanding of how people learn new skills and develop confidence. I have taken several Become a Bassist classes and in each instance the course has been structured to progressively build skills and knowledge. Courses are supported with excellent documentation, (audio and video) examples and exercises. Luke brings knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to make learning bass guitar a lot of fun, too. Highly recommended.

Several years ago I started playing Ubass with only a few lessons on fifths from a professional bass player. He said I just needed to keep time for the ukulele band which I did for a few years, often yawning and wishing for the practice to end. I had coloured dots on G C and F notes and rarely strayed outside them.
Luke encourages me to learn the notes and chords and soon my coloured dots were gone. I have enjoyed participating in many of Luke’s courses, often more than once. I am constantly learning and having ‘Eureka’ moments as Luke’s advice and instructions make their way into new bass lines I’m writing. He is an amazing teacher with a sincerity and respect which puts me at ease so I can absorb and remember his lessons. If not for Luke I doubt I would still be playing bass. He has taught me joy of learning by ear and having adventures on the bass which I expect to go on for as long as I live. He has turned a chore into a delight.

Luke takes a systematic approach to his teaching and developed several great frameworks to build up his students. The areas of Technique, Groove, and Ear are developed from beginner to advanced in each student, while providing encouragement to all students. I have been playing for 15 years and never got the application of theory, just music theory. Taking Luke’s various courses while joining a band has allowed me to apply in real-time, the lessons and their content. My bandmates have noticed my confidence and creativity and continue to give me new opportunities such as singing. NEVER thought I could do ‘that’!

I’ve taken several online lessons with Luke from Become A Bassist and all of them have been fantastic! The most recent one was the Critical Mass Bass Line Challenge. Its focus was on creating original bass lines by learning some methods that simply work. The modules are well organized and allow you to work at your own pace. Luke is a fantastic instructor who explains well, demonstrates what he is having learn, is always positive and encouraging and then, as part of the lesson is the application. Taking what you learned and applying it over music tracks and creating your own bass lines. I love this structure and it kept me focused, encouraged and motivated. Within a week, I already felt more confident playing bass and jamming with others. I’ve used a number of his ideas already on my own band’s original songs. It has made me a more confident and comfortable bass player and music writer. I highly recommend Become A Bassist.

Luke is an excellent teacher. I have taken 3 of his online courses and all of them have taught me so much. Not just about music itself but how to think and process the information to apply my own filter. He has had the most impact on my growth as a bass player over the past 2 years and I've been playing bass for 14 years total.

I've taken many of the courses at Become A Bassist. All of them have been excellent. Luke does a great job of moving through a huge amount of material quickly and efficiently. The short videos are clear and to the point. Personally, I really like and respect that Luke focuses on learning how to play bass. There are no fancy settings, silly effects, or wasted time. Each video is a concentrated period of high quality instruction.

I've would credit nearly all of the improvement in my playing to Become A Bassist. Luke provides great instruction at a great price.
