My experience of Barnsley Council and Children’s Social Care
My experience of Barnsley Council, particularly Children’s Social Care and the other council-run services involved in my family’s circumstances, has been deeply distressing.
Throughout my involvement with social services, I felt bullied, pressured, scrutinised and unsupported. I felt that different services were working together in a way that left me feeling isolated, overwhelmed and unable to make my voice heard. Rather than feeling listened to as a parent, I often felt that decisions and discussions were taking place around me, without me being properly included.
I have serious concerns about communication, the way information was recorded, my opportunities to participate in meetings, and the way my circumstances were handled. I have also had concerns about the completeness and redaction of records disclosed to me.
The impact on me has been significant. I felt that my side of events was not properly heard and that I had little opportunity to challenge what was being said about me. I believe families should be treated with dignity, fairness and compassion, even when professionals have concerns.
I understand that council services have difficult responsibilities, but that should not mean parents feel intimidated, excluded or powerless. Families deserve transparency, accurate records, proper communication and a genuine opportunity to be involved in decisions that affect their lives.
I am sharing my experience because I believe greater accountability and better communication are needed. I hope other families are listened to and treated with the respect and fairness that every person deserves.
