The communication was friendly and helpful from the start and we got, what we need. I guess we were a little bit more complicated client, because we needed three different cars and different baby equipment.

The welcoming and transfer were supersmooth, also leaving the car afterwards to the airport was really easy.

Bonus points for fast reaction and substitute car, when we got a flat tire.

We had a great experience. The cars were perfect for our use, the staff spoke English very well and were extremely helpful. It was easy to find. The key to remember is.. it is NOT at the airport. Great rates, great staff.

The rental office is a little bit further from Palermo airport than we imagined, thats the only negative point. I was a little bit on the fence about the extra insurance they upsold me in the office they weren't pushy about it, but was given a long argument in favour and decided to pay the extra fee.
The wait for the shuttle to/from the airport was ca 10 mins, its ca 15-20 mins to the office but then its easy to get back onto the Autostrada from the rental office, and also there is a tankstation is nearby for refueling before the rental return.

Biggest positive points: extremely friendly, helpful and fair staff. Good quality English. The car we received was in great condition and better then what I had expected for the price range, I think they made a concession because I had a family. When we returned it after driving dusty country roads with 3 kids in the back snacking, nothing was said about cleanliness, the car was sent off to their car valet without extra charge (1 or 2 other reviewers here report it differently...). Rang a local taxi for us to get straight back into the city as we had a few car-free days in Palermo planned.

I had a good experience renting from autovia in Palermo, Sicily. They were not the cheapest i could have chosen but far from the most expensive. the car was new ~ 6500 km. No problems were encountered and at pickup in Palermo city centre. Staff were very helpful making sure language was set to suit me etc. Return was also hassle free and i was contacted beforehand to ensure i knew the return location for the airport.

Overall i was happy.

Their business is not renting cars, it is extorting tourists when they return the car.
I have rented dozens of cars around the world, and I have never been treated so badly.

1) Company that does not pick up the phone.

2) Company that is located 20-25 minutes far awat from the airport.

3) You have to wait an hour for them at the airport for them to arrive, after other hour to pick-up the phone at mid day.

4) When you rent the car they tell you that the insurance you have taken out is rubbish and that you have to take out theirs for 110 euros and they tell you about all the dangers that occur in Sicily to cars.

5) When you return the car, after having washed it at the gas station next door, they tell you that you have to pay 50 euros to the garage next door that washes cars, or they deduct 100 euros from your deposit. When you pay the 50 euros, they dont wash the car, only take the money without any receipt.
This is corruption.

6) A lot of reviews are very negative. I made a mistake in renting with this company and did not read the reviews first.

Don't rent a car with Autovia...very rude staff, very aggressive to try and force you to buy additional insurance as well as cleaning costs for the car?! No screen washer liquid was in the car, pick-up at the airport took 45 min + 30 min waiting time at the desk. On top of all, I was charged with a damage claim for damage I never caused. Very unpleasant and unfair company.

Update: the below response from Autovia seems promising however I have never heard back and have never received any apologies whatsoever. Perhaps other Autovia-locations than the Palermo Airport-one do a better job...I hope so
