Amerigas has been a terrible experience…

Amerigas has been a terrible experience since they sold out and the local office closed about 2 yrs ago. We ran out of gas as their lapse in delivery driver availability. This happened mid winter and we were without propane for 72 hrs. It required at least three phone calls that were a weave of different customer service agents mostly from Nairobi Africa where the call centers are based and offer little more than delayed robotic responses.

AmeriGas has been the worst experience I have ever had.

AmeriGas has been one of the most frustrating companies I have ever dealt with.

I own a vacation home in Rehoboth Beach. On February 28th my house manager called to tell me we were completely out of propane. I immediately called AmeriGas on March 1st to report it and ask when the 500-gallon tank was last filled. I was told it had been filled in mid-December — about 75 days earlier. Even with a cold winter, a 500-gallon tank normally lasts us close to 10 months, so we suspected there might be a leak. They scheduled a leak test for March 3rd.

Because I don’t live there full-time, I specifically asked them to call my house manager 30 minutes before arriving. They took his phone number and assured me they would notify him.

No call.

On March 4th I called back to find out what happened. Apparently they went to the house without calling anyone and put a lock on the tank.

After more calls and long waits, I finally reached a service coordinator named Alicia who scheduled another appointment for March 6th.

Again — no call, no show.

At this point I discovered something unbelievable: you cannot actually speak with anyone who works at AmeriGas. Every call goes through a call center or answering service. After multiple calls with nothing being resolved, I even contacted their sales department to see if I could buy the tank outright so another propane company could supply gas.

Their response? They don’t sell buried 500-gallon tanks. I was told I would have to dig the tank out of the ground myself and then call them to come pick it up.

I would gladly do that if it weren’t winter and the house didn’t rely on propane for heat and hot water.

The sales rep said he would try to help — and then transferred me right back to the same useless call center.

I scheduled yet another appointment for March 12th. I received an email confirming it and again was assured they would call before arriving.

You guessed it: another no call, no show.

I called again and escalated it to a call center manager. I asked if I could please speak with someone at AmeriGas directly and was told they do not take calls.

After 44 minutes on the phone they said someone would call me back.

Another day has now passed and no one has called.

Meanwhile my house has no heat and no hot water, and every time I call I end up speaking to someone in another country who cannot actually solve the problem.

This level of service is unacceptable. AmeriGas has locked my tank, missed multiple appointments, and made it nearly impossible to speak to anyone who can fix the issue.

Avoid this company if you value your time, your sanity, or basic customer service.

• “Out of Propane With Kids in the House — AmeriGas Still Said No”

I have been a customer of AmeriGas for 14 years, and this recent experience made it painfully clear that long-term loyalty means absolutely nothing to this company.

After recently losing my job, I contacted AmeriGas to ask if they could waive an emergency propane delivery fee due to financial hardship. This was not a casual request — it was coming from someone who has supported this company for over a decade.

To make matters worse, I explained to the customer service representative that we were completely out of propane and I have children in the home. Despite knowing that the household had no propane and children were involved, the answer was still a flat no.

The explanation I was given was that the fee could not be waived because I am a “will call” customer rather than being enrolled in automatic delivery.

I even told the representative that I guess I simply haven’t put enough money into the company since I’m not on automatic delivery. I also pointed out the obvious: customers on automatic delivery clearly have the financial ability to keep propane coming regularly, while will call customers are often the ones who may actually need flexibility or understanding when times get difficult. That point was completely ignored.

Instead of any empathy, compassion, or willingness to help a loyal customer in a difficult moment, I was met with a rigid policy and a complete lack of concern.

After 14 years of doing business with AmeriGas, it is incredibly disappointing to learn that loyalty apparently means nothing unless the company can automatically withdraw money from your bank account.

This experience left me feeling like AmeriGas values automated payments far more than long-term customers. When a company is unwilling to show even the smallest level of consideration to a customer of 14 years — even when they know there are children in the home and the propane is completely gone — that says a lot about their priorities.

If you are considering AmeriGas, understand that customer loyalty appears to carry very little weight with this company.

Very disappointing.

The customer service is HORRID

The customer service is absolutely horrid. Not only can they not speak English, but if you try to explain an issue they like to berate you and tell you how stupid you are for not knowing how to read a gauge. Their prices are outrageous. Fuel itself is almost an entire $1 higher than my local suppliers, they have a total of $21 in delivery fees, for service calls its $325, if you need an expedited delivery...thats also $300. On top of the price of the fuel itself. Now trying to terminate services, its a $299 removal fee PLUS $120 dispatching fee. The absolute worst company i have ever dealt with and will NOT be recommending them to friends or family. Absolute JOKE!!!!

Let me run out of gas unless I paid…

Let me run out of gas unless I paid $300.00 more! Ordered gas on 2/21 given 3/3 to 3/9 delivery window - explained i'm low at 15% but will monitor. 3/1 called and said i'm down to 1% can they deliver sooner, no $300.00 if I want sooner already paying 4.79 per gallon. Called 3/3 - no delivery, don't care have until 3/9 to deliver, if i want early pay $300.00, called 3/4 - out of gas, i'm in the window, don't care pay $300.00 if you want gas early! They are absolutely the worst - been a customer for 20 years and I'm done! Today 3/5 no gas no hot water - I have 2 kids - no showers washing in cold water! They are owned by UGI - touts Every Customer Matters - bull the only thing that matters is $$$. They need to fire the upper level people at Amerigas and get true professionals. The Worst Company!

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They never fill the tank when they say they are going to, so I cancelled service with them four months ago. I have been trying for 10 weeks now to have the tank removed. They are going to charge $420 to remove THEIR tank (which is in breach of the original contract) if they ever decide to show up. They have scrubbed all of their local office locations from the internet, and if you try to call a local number you will be routed to a national call center. NO NOT deal with AmeriGas!

Horrible Company, Terrible Service!

After numerous rescheduling's and taking three weeks to make an urgent refill, they delivered my gas to my neighbor who doesn't even have amerigas. Now I'm fighting with them to get the charge retracted. Getting run in circles again by overseas agents who don't have a clue and nothing getting resolved. Still no gas!

This is the absolute worst company…

This is the absolute worst company ever. Just horrific. The worst business I have ever dealt with for anything. Like a fool I stuck with them for 8 years. Extremely high rates for propane, service, and fees with horrible service. Let me run out last year in February and never made a delivery the rest of the season after 7 attempts to get them to come. Paid every bill within 24 hours yet they never did their part. Then charged me $500 to pick up their tanks when I ended "service", even though the fee is listed as a ridiculous $300. Everyone other than the deliver personnel are complete scumbags. Take my advice, go anywhere else!!!

Buyer Beware

Reviewed Feb. 22, 2026

I have been with Amerigas for 12 years with some issues in the beginning but otherwise no problems….until this year. Twice I had delivery issues the second being this past week. I am running on fumes right now. I went out and bought a couple electric heaters to get through the storm because after receiving emails and speaking to customer service several times, my delivery never came. Their customer service is disconnected and unsympathetic. They could’ve cared less about the fact that I was going to run out of propane and there was a potential blizzard coming. I will be contacting them tomorrow to cancel my service and tell them I’ll let them know when they can pick up their tank. I don’t know what’s going on with this company, but it’s not good.

AmeriGas- worst company ever

I doubt Michael Sharp will ever read this, but he has NOT "turnaround AmeriGas, including initiatives to return customer service centers to the US and improve billing/logistics. A two week widow to provide gas? Nickeling and Diming the customers. It is outrageous that AmeriGas said that they were delivering gas and did not. Said there 6 year old tank was worth $1290, yet charged me $1460. Said if I didn’t want the tank, I would cost $419 not to use it anymore and I’d have to give them a 30 days written reason why. Another company told me that I should have told AmeriGas to stick it and not paid it. AmeriGas also charged me for a rental that I’d never use - $168 also down the tubes. AmeriGas still hasn’t returned $380 for gas I’ve never received and was $1 more per gallon than what other companies charge. When speaking with a “customer service representative,” I could not speak with someone above him. His name was “Michael,” which is a fake name. He could barely speak English and was hard to understand. I’ve called AmeriGas more than 4 times in the past two weeks and I sounds like the company has outsourced all the calls to another country. Not very “American” as the name suggests.
I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and putting my review on every form of social media. Worst company ever.
Mr. Sharp I wouldn’t say you live up to your name. Or maybe you have. Your company sure has cut us and bleed us, but people can fight back. I truly think you need to rethink your business model.

The worst customer service possible

The worst customer service possible. They seem proud of their price gauging. You can never speak to a person in charge. I have 3 tanks with them and the a charging me $5.19 per gallon when the average price per gallon in my area is $3.85. Their reason being I don't use over 2000 gallons per year.

Very dishonest and untruthful company

We have been Amerigas customers for 30+ years. At first we were very pleased with them. That was when you good deal with a local office. Since they moved their customer service to India, it's impossible to talk to anyone local. We are a total gas household and are on their plan that monitors tank level and delivers propane when needed. I check our level regularly. We got down to about 15% in our 330 gallon tank. My account page showed we would be getting a delivery between 1/28 and 2/2. Didn't happen so I started calling. Was always told that the truck was enroute to our house everyday. We ran out on 2/9. Everyday I called. On 2/12, I threatened them them with a lawsuit for breach of contract and elder abuse. A truck was in our driveway within an hour.

Took our money then no call no show

We called to order a propane refill for cooking and fireplace propane. Their customer service was clearly being handled overseas and quoted a lead time of 14 days to refill a tank that was dangerously low with a winter storm forecasted. Then tried to press us to expedite the service by paying a fee that was double than the tank refill!
14 days later, I received a phone call telling me our delivery was going to be the next day and because of the tank depletion someone over the age of 18 HAD to be there for the delivery. Did they show up? Nope. I HAD to take off work after THEY confirmed delivery and then no call no show. When we called customer service (again clearly overseas) we were lied to, telling us the truck was in route at 8pm in the evening! Then the rep had the nerve to tell us we should guarantee our delivery by paying an extra fee- are you serious? That’s bribery! I am still stuck at home waiting for Amerigas with the off-shore reps maintaining our delivery is en route.
