Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 171 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently state that customer service is terrible, mentioning that representatives are difficult to reach, unhelpful, language barriers are common, and staff provide incorrect information. Consumer grievances also show extreme frustration with sudden price increases, disputed billing charges, and heavily restricted medical claims or denied treatments. Though some reviewers were happy with their coverage, a small portion of people noted that the business handled claims smoothly and provided helpful support. These consumers found customer service remarkably easy to contact, appreciated the prompt assistance received, and praised the reliable network coverage.

Complete nightmare to work with

Complete nightmare to work with. As soon as you need them to fix or adjust anything, just give up all hope and cut your losses.
I spent more than three hours talking their CSR's trying to cancel my coverage due to their website being down. They never could do it, so I had to go through a charge back on my debit card. They still charged me, and cancelled my coverage.

systemic failures in its account management & billing database, posing serious risk to members.

The company appears to have systemic failures in its account management and billing database, which present a serious risk to members.

My policy was incorrectly terminated early January — without any notice or warning — due to an internal error, not due to any missed or late payment on my part. I found this out only accidentally when I called Customer Service to ask when I would be receiving my new health insurance card. I spent over two hours on the phone with Ambetter representatives that day working to correct this termination.

Subsequently, Ambetter erroneously initiated a refund of my very expensive premium. I contacted Ambetter immediately and was explicitly assured that the refund would be stopped. Despite this assurance, the refund was processed anyway on February 4, creating further disruption and requiring additional time and effort on my part to resolve.

I called first thing February 5, begging to fully resolve this matter. Ludwing, the representative who answered my call, actually hung up on me when I asked to speak with a supervisor. I called right back and spoke to another rep who was much more professional and is trying to reinstate me.

Meanwhile, the system shows I am not a current member, which translates to “not covered”!

These repeated errors indicate a lack of reliable internal controls. It is foreseeable that Ambetter’s automated systems could incorrectly terminate coverage for “non-payment” when the underlying issue is a database or processing failure, not member fault.

The consequences for members are significant when Ambetter’s back-end systems are not dependable. For a health insurance provider, this level of administrative failure is unacceptable. I cannot recommend AmBetter based on this terrible experience which remains unsettled.

This company will steal from you

I canceled with them in December before a new policy could start. My premiums went up a thousand percent. They stole money out of my account so I called them three more times to try to cancel, everytime I called they said I would get a refund. I did not. Don't use them, they'll steal from you too!!!

NO STARS!!

NO STARS!!! This is by far the very WORST insurance company I’ve dealt with and I’ve only had it 1 month! DO YOUR RESEARCH FOLKS! Medications I’ve taken over a year they are automatically denying forcing me to take alternative meds I’ve already tried. They simply don’t care! Don’t bother getting your dr on board to write letters the answer is NO! Now I am stuck with these people for a year. The staff also speak broken English and follow a script of “oh so sorry about this” look up every medication and physician before going with this company. Now I see why the president says insurance companies are ripping people off and getting away with it!!!

I spent 2 hours on the phone with three different costumer service people, every one of them was very hard to understand what they were saying. Not one of them could understand my request. I asked each one to transfer me to a supervisor but they would just send me to another associate. my wife and I are spending $26,000 a year or $2,200 a month. their costumer service is the worst that i have ever spoke to.

What a disaster

Coverage went up by $400 a month, I called a customer service rep and they said my rates would stay the same unless I did a manual change but I she was uninformed or I was lied to. Not only this, but they are extremely hard to get a hold of for questions, and most stuff my family needs seems out of network. Even the in-network reccomended healthcare providers inside the portal are out of date and innacurate. What a disaster

Inaccurate physician directory and abysmally inefficient onboarding

I have spent a cumulative 10 hours trying to book a simple first appointment with in-network physicians with this company. Ambetter lists which physicians are accepting new patients, but you don't know this is true until you call to make an appointment. You can't just book with a different physician if you're not assigned to them. So you have to make that change first. Then you call to book an appointment, and that physician isn't accepting patients either. Their directory needs an update or the doctor's office needs to be communicating with the insurance company. For all the tech tape and phone calling I had to go through just to discover all this is beyond unacceptable for the cost of the much better than average insurance plan I bought. In the end, I'm scheduled to be seen by a Resident, which I appreciate is still good medical care, but it's NOT the experience of care I thought I was paying for. I'll be terminating my policy to find healthcare another way. The only redeeming feature was the kind customer service from 1 individual.

Do not buy Ambetter!

Due to changes in insurance options implemented by the current government, I had to switch my health insurance for 2026. As a self-employed person, I purchase my insurance independently each year. Silver tiers are no longer available, leaving only Gold or Bronze plans.

I chose Ambetter because their Gold plan appeared to have a lower premium than my previous insurer. Within just two weeks, trying to access my prescribed medications turned into an incredibly stressful and time-consuming process. Coverage was repeatedly denied, prescription costs were significantly higher than advertised, and getting clear answers from customer service was nearly impossible.

Before January 15, I canceled Ambetter and returned to my previous insurance despite the higher premium. The amount of stress, uncertainty, and wasted time was not worth it.

I would strongly caution anyone considering Ambetter: expect coverage denials, higher-than-expected prescription costs, and poor customer service.

Unfortunately there isn’t an option for zero stars. Horrendously inefficient with customer service. I’ve called four times to cancel. Each time they seem to sign me back up. Language barrier because apparently no one in the US can answer calls. Receiving constant bills and now phone calls. Useless company. Useless insurance. Not to mention my premium for a bronze plan went from $350 a month to trying to charge me over $1200. No wonder they can’t seem to “cancel” me.

Ambetter is awful

Ambetter is awful. Denying existing pre-authorization for medically necessary medication. Violating Federal continuity-of-care obligations under the Affordable Care Act AND violating Florida Statute § 627.42393, which restricts the use of step-therapy protocols (to force cheaper treatments).

I have marketplace health insurance

I have marketplace health insurance. Last year I paid 11.05 a month since I got a tax credit. This year at my renewal my policy went to 154.00. I had NOT agreed or signed anything saying I wanted to go with Ambetter policy at renewal of 1/1/2026 well , they decidedd to take money out of my account for 209.00 on 12/16/2025 with out my authorization. I called on 12/17/2025 asked for a refund because I hadn't made a decision on the plan I was going to go with.. the rep said he would refund me it would take up to 7-10 business days. Well we are still waiting on that refund. I called first of january and the lady i was on phone with for an hour and half said it would take 14 businesses days for my refund. NOW we are up to 30 days because of all the refund ambetter has to get out.. NOT MY PROBLEM... my money is my money and I want it back... this is so frustrating..Please everytime you call you have to explain the whole situation over again and then get hung up on..

Stealing Company

lying, scamming, cheating, stealing company. they stole my $185 dollar rewards for '25 before i could cash it in. won't give me my money. to top it all off, they terminated my insurance on 12/19 even though i paid my full automatic payment for the month like i did every month of the year. and then they lied saying that i had insurance until midnight on new years eve even though the email i got clearly said "YOUR INSURANCE HAS BEEN TERMINATED AS OF TODAY 12/19." what do you know, they wouldn't give me half of my monthly premium back. i also received a email in October that i was to expect a rebate check in the mail, you guessed it, never to be seen. stole MY money on 3 occasions. they only have foreigners answering the customer service calls and they never understand anything and are not professional at all. No wonder basically every doctor, dentist, and eye doctor do not take this insurance, I understand now. Do not use this so called company! they need to be abolished and looked into for fraud! comments don't lie, look at all the other reviews and comments on Facebook! its a shame their based in my state and city. makes it sting even more. they went bad and went bad fast!
