German Christmas Holiday - The journey plan was well thought out and orchestrated by our tour guide Darren. The places we visited were a good mix of Christmas and local views. The main hotel of our stay was fabulous, wonderful views, snow and the hotel hosts had a pleasant mix of talent to entertain us in the cold Christmas evenings. I would highly recommend this Christmas tour with Albatross.
Albatross Tours is the first bus tour company we have used in Europe and, based on now three tours with them, the latest being 2025 Bohemian Christmas Markets, will continue to utilise their tour options.
Our tour leader Helen was experienced, had knowledge of local history and had everything under control. She made us feel welcome and communicated in a friendly manner with everyone. Clear, precise information was provided by her on the bus, at hotels and via WhatsApp. Our tour itinerary “Christmas Markets”, was a very enjoyable experience.
The hotel accomodation and quality of meals was very good.
During the tour my wife developed a cold, reducing her ability to continue participating in a guided tour. Thankfully, Helen made alternative transport arrangements back to the hotel for her, a gesture very much appreciated.
Our included dinners were always of good quality enabling our group to experience local restaurant locations and traditional cuisine. In particular, our final night’s dinner in a German cellar featuring a traditional ambience and the cuisine was enjoyable.
We have always recognised the quality of buses and the experienced bus drivers utilised by Albatross, as with Josip, our tour driver. His skillfull driving ensured our safety was paramount.
In closing I commend Helen for being an excellent host and providing us with a memorable tour experience.
Bohemian Christmas Markets Tour
The tour was everything that was promised. The Tour Leader Helen was knowledgeable and helpful in every way. Josip the bus driver was hands down the best driver of any tour I have been on - calm, composed and a great sense of humour. The local guides - Tomas in Berlin and Ana in Nuremberg were fantastic. There was the perfect balance of group time and me time, and while focussed on the Christmas markets there was a good mix of other activities to break things up. Only issue was no snow (which Albatross cannot be blamed for!)
Could bw much inproved. There was a group with a travel agent within our group. It had its own culture and for most part stayed within their group.
The second day had far too much walking. The national park walk whilst long and crowded from large ship groups, but was an excellent walk.
To get to one old city on a free evening was far to long and steep to walk there and back
Meals were mixed in quality but there were some highlights.
The first two local guides were excellent. The accompanying tour guide was a little repetitive in her commentary
The wine tasting and lunch was OK.
One lunch had excellent food cooked in a special way in clay ovens
Unfortunately small group tours to Crotia, Bosnia Hertzagovia and Montenegra are being spoilt by the influx of large groups from large ships. Trying to get access to a toilet without having fo buy a meal is a problem
The scenery was excellent and the coach and driver excellent. Lots of available seats to move around.
3/4 night hotel stays is good
Great value for money, as hotels were very good quality, Tour manager very knowledgeable and organised, and the tour covered many places. Also driver was excellent and I felt very safe. Loved the small group size of 24 on our tour and not too many early starts. Would not hesitate to travel again with Albatross. Well done!
Tour director at times not helpful
Food in hotels we stayed in were terrible
Some day trips we spent to long travelling in the bus
My guaranteed tour was cancelled 6 weeks prior to the start date we not assistance to cancell pre booking I had made.
No apology received from Albatross for cancelling guarantee tour.
Lucky I was able to change to the next tour date.
Guide leader excellent & knowledgeable & catered for all our needs. Also 23 in group was enough. Driver also helpful & obliging.
The group were great. What was missing was an experience of Austrian culture - their music and dancing. One of the early accommodations was on the edge of a town with few eating places but we were to find our own meals on two nights. Fancy having to sit in your room and, as a single, on your own, eating sandwiches or bread and cheese. the major problem was that you "guide" Alex was a manager not a guide. He gave us no information at all. To guide one needs to be able to narrate - tell a story, about the lake or the town. We may have been given a fact and that's all. He wouldn't tell us what was happening before the event because "we would forget it". We would arrive somewhere and then find there was no where to buy lunch. But he did help people with travel plans so his management skills were there.
The tour was amazing. I loved being able to stay in one place for longer periods and doing day trips each day.
I did get lost twice and missed the coach, which wasn't so good. I had to find my own way back to our accommodation.
I think what upset me was our tour director didn't even realise I was missing on the first occasion. I was travelling solo and I'm quiet so I just went unnoticed.
On the second occasion I was scolded by the tour director that evening for holding up the coach.
Apart from those grievances everything was wonderful
We absolutely loved our second Albatross Tour. Sicily and the Deep South of Italy tour went beyond our expectations. We couldn't have imagined each day to get better but they did. Accommodation was excellent, we had plenty of shared group meals and the right balance of time to ourselves. Maybe we were lucky as our tour manager was the best!!! Nothing was too much trouble for Mariella! She was a local of Puglia and her insight into the area made the experiences for us as travellers so authentic. We enjoyed all of the handpicked excursions and activities and were glad we were fit! So much to see and do and many of the incredible sights were up high on clifftops overlooking the spectacular Italian coastline. Trulli cottages, cave dwellings, reaching dizzying heights on Mt Etna, visiting 'Godfather' country, olive oil tasting, eating so much sea food and seeing an assortment of ancient temples were all part of this amazing tour. We loved it and would recommend it to any travellers who wish to enjoy an authentic glimpse into the southern parts of Italy.
September was the perfect time of year to go! Weather perfect!
We had a well organised and very much enjoyable time on the Swiss Alpine Adventure tour followed by the Italian Grande tour of Italy. Reinhard was a fabulous guide. Accommodation was excellent.
Great bus and driver. Great commentary by the leader and good places to stay but too much walking and commentary by local guides.
Beautiful place, excellent accommodation, great food and well organised tour. Money well spent
The extended stays (3 - 4 days) in one hotel and using this as a base to see so many things which would not have been possible in the time allowed.
Accommodation was good.Visiting places like Castel Brando and staying there was a highlight. All the lake districts lake Como,Lake Garda ,Staying at Stressa.Bus driver was very accomplished and navigated through all terrains extremely at easy.
One thing that would be good to add to the tour would be a lunch at a Tuscan vineyard's
I purchased through travel managers. I had no problems other than not getting the hotel we thought and ending up in a hotel in Salerno that was noisy and very ordinary. But albatross were very good and gave the group a refund. I had so looked forward to being in minori and maiori and wandering around so very disappointing in Solerno and not pleasant on my own to walk around
Our delightful tour manager (Denisa) was very well organised, helpful and friendly, with a dry sense of humour, one that we appreciated. The pace of the tour was just about right - between free time and organised tours. Croatia was wonderful (perhaps with a few too many tourists, just like us!). A rich and, at times, tragic history. The day trip to Kotor, Montenegro - because of overcrowding - was the only segment that we felt could have been dropped. Overall, we have great memories of this trip. Thanks, Denisa.
Fabulous itinerary with excellent tour guide. The group of 28 was just a bit large for us.
The tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable and provided us with a smooth and carefully planned tour. The tour was restricted in numbers which was comfortable and allowed everyone to get to know each other well. Also, the bus driver was excellent.
