An appalling company that has tried…

An appalling company that has tried said it could be up to the end of January until I get my money back for an event cancelled over 6 months ago. Not only that they are charging me for just to return my own money to me I will never use active for a ride again

Total scam

Total scam. Have zero intention of paying back for cancelled or postponed events. Saying it has to be 24hrs before the event. The event is postponed until next year and I can no longer attend. If that doesn’t count what actually does.

Avoid.

Signed up with Active.com for the Essex…

Signed up with Active.com for the Essex Velo on a Fast Track package. Received confirmation from the of the cancellation in September (see below) and a simple statement that a refund of just 45% of any fees paid would be coming to participants. This is a scam and people who have paid should push back through credit card providers with this company. They also cancelled Velo Birmingham and took everyone's registration fees to cover 'their considerable costs incurred'. To make it worse they have also highlighted that the insurance I purchased with the event (which I think is linked to them) will not cover me!!
The more people that highlight these sharp practices the better

Velo Statement
One of the key reasons for making this announcement with just under six months to go until the event was that we still have a considerable number of entry places left to fill. We were initially confident of selling the balance of entries over the coming summer months, however the escalating Covid-19 pandemic has meant we are unable to rely on these sales to cover the significant cost of staging this event. To compound matters, the important operational planning we should be undertaking is now severely compromised by the restrictions we are now all facing.
You may be aware that some major mass participation events have pushed back their dates back to September or October in the hope that restrictions will be lifted and they will be able to take place on their re-scheduled dates. The main difference between these events and the inaugural Vélo Essex is that these events are either already sold out or logistically less demanding.
Whilst we carry extensive business interruption and event cancellation insurance, unfortunately, as is common with many mass participation events, none of these policies cover the unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in.

Sneaky

As everyone else has said, they sneak charges in after you sign up for a race. Ridiculous.

When signing up for a race

When signing up for a race, apparently, I was charged for a monthly membership that I never indented to. I have written to the customer service dept. several times with no response at all. It’s so discouraging to think that a company would have a client jump through hoops to sign up for a relatively altruistic cause. Then fail to respond to an unhappy client. Be careful and really be mindful when signing up for anything in this site!

sneaky charges

When registering for races online, Active.com sneaks in a seperate memebership discount charge, one month after registering (65.95-69.95) and then automatically renews this charge year after year. You must uncheck a box while registering for the race, and it is so easy to be fooled. It hit me twice, and I would never have noticed had it not been that this years annual charge showed up on a card that I no longer use, so it was a solo charge and quite evident.
I believe this is a deceptive and sneaky practice, in a busy online community registration environment.
