Hays of Horrors

On Monday 22 Sept 2025 I tried to ascertain the current travel exchange rate for the dollar for Hays Selby, N Yorks and it was only listed on their website which was clearly a good rate. I checked their reviews and the only cause for concern was an issue someone had had a few weeks prior. I rang Selby Hays Travel to ask whether they could provide me with £250(GBP) worth of dollars in small denominations of $1 and how much would it cost? I was not informed any change to the website exchange rate of the day but I was informed that it would cost £250 plus pennies and the money would be available on Wednesday, I would receive a telephone call to pick it up. I agreed to go ahead with this. I was contacted that day.
Unfortunately due to health reasons I had to delay this until Friday 26th where my husband collected the money on our behalf. Now here is the problem: he was charged £264 plus pennies for $328 dollars. That was £14 for the privilege of only changing £250 and he did NOT receive a receipt or breakdown of what charges?? they were and what if any percentage of service fee this included? Could it have been charges I asked myself? If it was, it was excessive that we were charged such a high price for such a small amount of money. If so I would not have gone through with this. But what worries me the most is that we did not receive a receipt and it was not counted out in front of my husband. Any business who deals with Finance counts out Money in front of the client to prevent mistakes. Instead the woman gestured that it would be a pain as it was all low denominations. My DH picked up on this and being the man he is thought they were honest. Right.
So within 24hrs I contacted their Head Office, I did not want to go via the local office as they are small and I would end up having an argument with whoever was in charge of he said she said. Like most financial institutions or businesses they tend to record conversations and after I had laid out my concerns suggested they replay the tapes. (Honest Joe that I am) So what did HO do, they forwarded my email to an unamed party at the Selby Shop, who on her return 4 days later, basically called me a liar, stated that the local agents and website rates are different which If I had been in the know or told at point of call and were really low, it was my DH fault for not wanting the money counted in front of him even though the female made a suggestion it would be a pain. There was skeptism as to how an Invoice was not provided but zero explanation and nothing regarding the fact I had now overspent an extra 14 pounds, but tellingly there was no apology, but she did kindly attach A RECEIPT which showed that according to their figures I had been provided with an additional $2. So I asked HO for £10 cheque(minus overpayment) and an apology. Still Waiting Hayes. There organisational Policy and Procedures are a joke and dont think I will be using them in the future. Telling it Like It Was....

Still WAITING

Ordered dry dog food Next Day Delivery for last Friday and paid extra for Guarantee. Failed to arrive and DPD are still waiting instructions for collection so they can deliver it. 3 days later and still no contact and my dog is hungry. So tried to contact via Chatbox, it appears automated and does not accept or understand Free Text?????? Sent an email and guess what zero answer. They have been paid. They have therefore entered into a contract where they are obliged to provide this service.
14/07/25 I gave one last shot yesterday and managed to speak to a human via Chatbox, Kai. The way I got through was ticking box to make a complaint and request refund. She appeared very lovely and sympathetic and could not have done enough. After ascertaining the problem namely a system malfunction she organised for the dog food to be delivered today and a refund of Delivery Charges. This has not yet happened but I have amended my Rating to reflect my experience. Here is hoping Pets At Home do make necessary changes to their Online and Delivery services as their is clearly a logistics issue with the amount of bad press they are receiving

I purchased an item in March 2025 via Amazon uk. Unfortunately within a short time it became lightly damaged not through intent or accidental I updated the sellers page suggesting it was not suitable for use as described because how quickly it disintegrated. A few months on the seller requested to refund me, I never sought this out, and I asked Amazon if this was legit as the company wanted my details to refund me. I was assured it was and they would refund me within a timely manner. Well you guessed it, zero refund received and its been weeks. So Buyer beware if you purchase and you make a honest yet negative customer review DO NOT give out your details to a seller offering a refund. The only thing I would have edited in my customer review if I had had a refund was to say Refund accepted. But asked yourself why offer and not pay the customer especially if customer never sought a refund in the first place and asked Amazon if their offer to reimburse was legit before handing your personal info over. I have gone back to Amazon and am waiting for a response. But with their track record not expecting any reply

Worth It

First Time Buyers for an Acer Aspire 5 Laptop Power Charger. Only bought the Laptop last year and already experienced problems with the Power Charger cable wires which wasn't charging up the Laptop. So found the Laptop Power Supply company and took a chance. Very easy to find what I was looking for very reasonably priced and express delivery was great. I liked there Warning online which advised you on issues to look out for. When the new charger arrived found no problems as yet. Would I Recommend Yes

Glad I did my homework

I checked out the reviews on Trust Pilot and noted a few concerns with Delivery, however I contacted the Sales Team beforehand to clarify any issues and am glad that I did. Stock was in, nil issues regards to delivery. In fact I made the order on the Tuesday for delivery on Friday same week. I received the delivery of two tonnes of Polar White stones at an extremely reasonable price with delivery charge included. Best price going. I was delighted with the delivery as it came the day after on the Wednesday, off a wagon rather than a highab which meant it was easier to place on my driveway. The delivery driver was extremely professional and helpful. Could not do enough. Was I impressed with the delivery, the sales and the stone. Most definitely will I use and Recommend Yes

Review of Intuit Credit Karma UK

Not As Good As It Makes Out

Hmmm, The Only reason why Credit Karma UK have an Excellent Trust Pilot Review is that occasionaly it's web page will not allow you to access the Account until you have given it this review, which is the ONLY option provided. I wonder what it would really be? But truthfully it is about 2-3 months behind minimum. And it also uses your Utilities as a Credit rating, this must be an American thing, as when I tried to have this removed they upheld that it should not be on the Account but still haven't removed it. Any issues raised take 3-4 months to be reviewed???? The only reason why I use it is because it provides a weekly update and it is free. Otherwise i would stick to the Main Credit Reference Agencies such as Experian.
It Also bombards you with Credit Cards, Utility Switch, Loan ADS as it tries to make you take out as many as possible.

STAY AWAY FROM VIRGIN BROADBAND AND MEDIA…

My contract with Virgin ended on 22nd June 2022. I notified them on 29th July 2022 that we were moving to an area which had no Virgin Service in the area. So cancelled my subscription and Direct Debit. Informed you had to give them 30 day notice so needed to pay 1 final payment. Did so immediately. This was when the problems started.
Homemovers dept stated they were going to charge me £40 for hub and £48 for Early Cancellation Fee if I didn't provide them with proof of move eg New Mortgage Terms letter New Insurance Policy letter etc all and any documentation which they are not entitled to. So within given time frame of 4 weeks I sent back the Hub via Royal Mail Tracking glad I did as they tried to say I hadn't but sent them the proof of delivery.
They finally backed down.
But the real problem was dealing with the Homemovers team. Even though I have them and the resolution team admitting I don't owe them monies I have been laughed at on the telephone cut off deliberately and being bombarded with emails stating on the one hand no monies are due in fact they owe me £56 then within a day or so Homemovers send me emails demanding further EARLY Cancellation Fee payment and telling me that as I am not giving them my new address nor been in touch within 28 days( although I have been on an almost daily basis) I have to pay up. Well Virgin as I told you in my last email if you attempt to force me to pay monies I don't owe I will Happily see you in court. What a way of losing this and any future custom. This is not good business.

DON'T EVEN CONSIDER IT

I will make this brief. I wrongly purchased two sets of wardrobes online which were the incorrect height luckily the very young professional delivery man came in and noted it straight away and after a quick discussion with his warehouse supv took the delivery away without taking it off the van. He provided me with a ref no and advised me to call customer service. I rang them immediately and was informed it would take 7-14 days for refund as new lower wardrobes were not available but I could visit the store with ref no in hand to purchase a different set. I visited Birstall the very next day and lo and behold chose a new set but it was going to set me back one and half times more. Ikea appear to be having delivery issues with their stock. So, with ref no in hand the very nice Andrea sent me down to Refunds Dept to enable me to use my not so inconsiderable amount of money from the first purchase to finance the new wardrobes. BIGGEST MISTAKE. I should have walked away at this point. The young blonde girl was unprofessional, ignorant, and flailing about like a flapping fish whilst chittering away saying 'I don't know what to do' repeatedly. She asked her Supv who clearly didn't have a clue and when I very kindly attempted to provide her with her colleague Andrea's(who did) details she ignored me and told me to ring Customer Service to sort this out. She refused to even consider ringing them herself or helping me do so and cut a long story short for expediency sake I ended up paying out the extra money to fund the new selected wardrobes whilst being assured that monies owed will be refunded within 7-14 days.LIES.
I waited the 14 days and when the monies were not deposited into my account I rang up Customer Service and was put through to a Supv almost immediately when I gave my reason for calling. CAGEY. I was informed that the monies would be refunded within 14 working days that is almost 3 weeks after the initial payment made and not within 7-14 days initially stated by the staff. All i received was an apology for having been misinformed. NOT WORTH ANYTHING. Ikea are lying to the public. This company is a joke. 10 seconds to take your money but 3 weeks to pay you back. So here it is if you fail to repay me I WILL TAKE YOU TO COURT. I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE OF MAKING ANY PURCHASE FROM IKEA I WISH WE HAD STAYED WITH BENSON BEDS WHOSE WARDROBES ARE SUPERIOR BUT ONLY LET DOWN BY THEIR DELIVERY 2-3 MONTHS.

Worst Experience

I was caught short and needed a few groceries but could not get to the stores so decided to use Amazons Morrisons(Newcastle North) same day deliver service much to my DH annoyance. In the past service one of the Drivers had demanded to see my DH Driving Licence and took down the details??? as we had ordered alcohol. I too had ordered a bottle of alcohol on this occassion. We are both in our late 50's and are not the type of people who lie. However, yesterday, being mindful of my DH previous experience when the driver asked for my DOB I asked him why? It was as if I had lit a switch he literally went off it ranting he was going to take back the groceries I had paid for if I didn't give it to him. Trying to calm him and the situation down after asking a simple question I began to have my reservations (remember people I still had it in the back of my mind as to what and how this information is used and by whom yet knowing that if a person who looks under 21 orders alcohol in a shop then the Company/Management have every right to request evidence) so I gave him a DOB admittedly not my own but he wasn't to know that. He then started shouting that he didn't believe me and demanded to see my DL. Well by this time my DH had arrived at the door to find out what was going on and he became upset by the Delivery Drivers disgusting attitude that I gave the man my DL where he took approx two minutes to look at it and when I asked for its return he then asked me my DOB and my first name. He really seemed to be trying to get us to continue arguing with him. Even after we asked him to leave our property he was still mouthing off. He was extremely confrontational with a very poor attitude.
I appreciate Amazon have a Policy yet surely they can be reasonable and note down that the person receiving is over 21 and therefore do not require their customers to provide DOB or DL.
Which now begs the question just how are these drivers vetted? Who are you giving your personal information to and how are they using it. I tried to contact Amazon Customer Service via web chat and having wrote down all that had taken place they cut me off stating that they were sorry I had had such a bad experience but someone would join the conversation to talk to me further. I'm still waiting. Amazon do not appear to take responsibility for these drivers, Morrisons do not appear to have any protocols in place and the Delivery Drivers appear to be self employed without any redress for how they treat Customers.
I get along with all Amazon and Tesco Delivery Drivers who are and have been especially wonderful and polite but not this time.
Not to mention that I seem to have received extra item into my shopping order and have been overcharged. It looks like Amazon take extra payment out and will hopefully reimburse me further. I will monitor this as when I normally receive Tesco delivery they only charge me for what I order NOT an extra £14. There is no necessity to do this other than to swell their banking investments.
Now the question is will I use this Delivery System again. No. Will I recommend No.

Review of Total Tiles

Excellent

This is the second order of the Heritage Parquet tiles. We were going to choose a different design but when we saw these and how amazing they looked we decided to choose the same for another bedroom.
The delivery and service are second to none. Price and quality are brilliant. Only downside is that we dont live close enough to visit. Would we buy again YES we already looking redesigning the dining room. Would we RECOMMEND most certainly.

Love the Style

Yet to open but love the style.
Didn't buy the Throw as thought it was too expensive to purchase without looking or feeling to establish thickness as pictures were unclear. Throws or Bedspreads should be of substantial weight at this price. Would only buy this range at discounted rates as excellent bargain!

Another Disgruntled Customer

We purchased a 3500 pound leather sofa and paid a deposit. We did not want to pay for it outright just in case of problems caused by COVID. We were assured that their craftsmen would be able to complete this regardless of covid problems as all their factories and suppliers were still working. Sales people gave us positive assurances and so because we had heard of positive reviews from family members and friends we decided to go ahead.
We were also told max 10 weeks but likely to receive it within 8 weeks. Then we were promised in November and then noted the delivery went to Dec 1st. Got on the phone told their delivery was 23rd Nov so being kind hearted we decided to give our old sofa to a family who have nothing. The delivery date came and went and we noted the Tracking system went down and when it came up online noted that the delivery given Dec 14th. DH rang up the office line and then told it was the Customer Centre who could not give a hoot that a little old Disabled lady and her family NEEDED the sofa NOW. Now reading other reviews it appears that DFS have no intention of fulfilling their order, They have one chance if we don't get the sofa by the stated date this is in Breach of their contract and we will demand our monies back. Stop fobbing us off with excuses and rude Customer Service it does more harm to your business. According to your CS you are happy to cancel orders and we will.

What a Service...Brilliant

Took a long time in choosing the right tile only for B&Q to run out of the 3DSpiro8 so decided to go to the seller House of Mosaic direct. Appreciate you pay an extra £2 per tile but needed them very quickly. Ordered them yesterday about 3pm and promptly received them about 3.30pm today via extremely nice and professional UPS driver. Perfect. Many thanks to the House of Mosaics for your brilliant service. Definitely recommend

Review of Downtown Stores

Excellent Just what I was looking for

Purchasing Process was fast and efficient. Feedback from Sales to confirm that I had indeed purchased the right amount ordered was excellent.
The items were inexpensive yet colours remained vibrant exactly what I needed as I have a very large puppy who does tend to be a little messy hence why I did not purchase the expensive Egyptian Cotton just yet.
I would really love to see these colours and some really nice unusual designs for Duvets or similar in heavy duty Egyptian Cotton or similar and am sure your customers would be willing to pay that little extra.
Only 2 little Cons which can be put right very quickly.
Quality Check the machinery threading around the hemming,
I received a few emails asking for Reviews and appreciate companies rely on these but I wanted to make sure the review I gave was honest.
Would I buy again Yes. Would I recommend Yes.
