A Nightmare Experience

My interaction with this company and with Constance Dittrich and her team was a nightmare from start to finish. After trying for weeks to get answers to my basic questions and a clear date for the packers to come I finally fired her and her team today. She made promises she did not keep, asked me to complete and return a form which was clearly titled ‘for use for commercial shipments from Canada’! (My shipment was personal household goods from Mexico!) She said it didn’t matter! She asked for may passport and visa (I see from other comments that she should not have done that). And she had Mexican Customs valuing a couple of my household sculptures at 77,000 dollars!, clearly thinking I was an art dealer rather than an old lady returning to England with my household goods. This has cost me. Lot of lost sleep and has delayed my departure and I now need to start over with a reputable company, but at least I won’t have to deal with such a terrible level of incompetence and indifference. I think I dodged a bullet. Beware! (note: I am not a complainer and do not tend to write reviews, but this was a truly awful experience.)

PS. I have since realized that a document they asked me to sign immediately, describing a value of US$77,000, should have gone to a different customer who was shipping to Ireland! This company offers nothing but excuses.

Dear Dorothy,

We are sincerely and deeply sorry for the difficult experience you encountered with us. Unfortunately, some aspects of the process were beyond our control, as we must strictly comply with customs regulations.

In your particular case, several sculptures were declared as personal effects, which led customs to request additional information and documentation. We responded to their inquiries based on the details you provided.

Regarding the Canadian document, it was issued by our customs partner, whose headquarters are in Canada, even though they also operate in the USA and Mexico. That is why the document reflected Canadian information.

As for the commercial instruction letter, we explained that we could only follow the instructions under your name and contact information, and not those mentioning “commercial” purposes, to ensure the shipment was correctly treated as personal effects.

Finally, concerning your passport and visa, Mexican customs required these documents to verify that you were legally entitled to export your personal belongings from Mexico. Unfortunately, we could not proceed otherwise, as customs compliance is mandatory for any export clearance.

Once again, we are truly sorry for the inconvenience and stress this situation has caused. Please know that we did everything possible to facilitate your shipment within the limits of customs procedures.
