Mostly very good, but watch out for damage
The Good:
1. Very good price for the car at Madrid airport
2. Shuttle was prompt and efficient. Directions to the pickup were accurate
3. Car was upgraded as they didn't have the category I had booked.
4. No problems with the car itself
5. Return was smooth (BUT see below)
6. Shuttle back to the airport was simple.
The Bad:
1. I had a car hire insurance policy so I declined the extra insurance, for which they debited me EUR1400 on my debit card as a guarantee. It was lucky my bank account could cover that, but there may be overdraft fees.
2. The car had dents in it. The contract specified where the damage was, so I made sure to take pictures all around the car, and specifically the existing damage.
3. When I came back, I insisted that I wanted my credit back for the EUR1400. They said I would get it after they checked the car. I said I would wait. Then they came back and said the car was damaged. I pointed to the contract, and said it was already there. They said this was new, so I went out, and they pointed to the dent. I showed them the photograph of the dent, clear as day. They then cleared the charge. If I had not waited and insisted on the refund, I would not have got my EUR1400 back, and would have had to fight for it.
MORAL: Take photos all around the car before accepting it, and make sure any damage is properly recorded on the form, or you may be out of pocket unless you have paid extra for their insurance.
