Terrible experience with YUKO – completely abandoned by customer service

I rented a YUKO car on 22 October 2025, and it suddenly became impossible to start because it wouldn’t connect to the app. We were in front of the Guinness lake, but we had 4G connection in our phones at all times. My 2 friends and I were stuck in the Wicklow Mountains for 3.5 hours until "help" finally came (after being told it would be ~1 h). The recovery car only had space for ONE person (despite having told them before we were three). Assisstance guy said he was only told to pull a car down the road to reconnect it. I called YUKO but still they expected me to leave my two friends alone in the pitch dark and cold, without shelter. YUKO were well aware that these issues happen very often (and still they are not fixing this problem?). When I highlighted the possibility of it not working and leaving the two people there completely alone, no solution was given.

In the end, a random passer-by, not YUKO, was the one who actually helped us. My two friends followed roadside assistance thanks to the kind passer-by (a worker from the NPWS, if you are reading this THANK YOU). We tried to connect and start the car several times with no luck (as I anticipated). Roadside assistance took the car for repair, and YUKO offered no transport, no plan for the passengers, and showed no concern for our safety.

It makes no sense that these cars lose connection so easily in places that are not remote (we were at Guinness Lake), or that YUKO has no emergency key to start the car when the app fails.

Absolutely unacceptable service. I will not be using YUKO again and strongly advise others to think twice before relying on them.

Do not use

Do not use
They state in rental agreement and on website that members are supposed to pay for toll charges themselves. They will then send invoices months later for the same charges.

Scam. They will take your card details during sign up and will then decline your application

I was looking for an alternative to GoCar as it can be difficult to get a car with them and for a very good reason going by how this Yuko company operates.

Sign up involved taking a picture of your license beside your face and a picture of the front and back of your license.

This was followed by a questionnaire for insurance purposes.
Questions asked such as:
Have you a full driving license for 24 months?
Have you been involved in more than 2 accidents in 3 years?
Have you more than 6 penalty points in the last 5 years?
Do you have medical condition or long term or permanent injury or illness that must be advised to the licensing authority?
Are you a resident in Ireland over 12 months?
Have you had your license suspended or endorsed for failure to stop by the Gardai, driving while unfit, driving without insurance, drink driving, driving carelessly.
Are you a professional sportsman, model or professional in entertainment or a person without a permanent address?

So I met all the criteria, I am a resident in Ireland with a permanent address, with a full license for over 24 months. I don't have any penalty points, I have had no accidents, I don't have any medical conditions, injuries or illnesses and I haven't had my license suspended or endorsed.

And they declined my application. I contacted them by email and the reason given was their insurance company rejected the application. The insurance company scans applications and they decide and customer service can't do anything to go back on it... I don't know what the questions were for in the questionnaire if the questions asked was for insurance purposes because I 100% met the criteria or I don't know, do I need more than 0 penalty points? Should I go out and get an accident under my belt? Or what exactly are satisfactory answers for these questions?

They were well able to take my card details during this application as well which I'm not comfortable with after getting my application declined.

So I was never even given a chance to get a bad driving experience with Yuko. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise going by other reviews.

Arbitrary Fines

Disappointed with how Yuko handles customer support and service quality. I was fined €100 and had my account suspended after returning a car approximately 10 minutes from the station—well within what I believed to be their stated policy. There was no clear warning in the app, and the vehicle location only becomes visible after the booking starts, which makes things very confusing.

Customer support was unhelpful and dismissive, and the in-app “call” feature didn’t work when I needed it most. I also experienced multiple bookings with dirty, poorly maintained cars, despite submitting feedback. Unfortunately, my reports were largely ignored.

I’ve since reported the issue to the CCPC and the Department of Transport. I’ve moved on to other car-sharing services like GoCar and Drive You, which offer far better reliability and customer care. I wouldn’t recommend Yuko based on my experience.

Terrible Customer Service

I’m an EU citizen. My application got denied for no reason. I spoke with Elana. When I asked for one they said it’s the insurance company but they don’t specify a reason, they just scan and disapprove. When I asked for the insurance company they didn’t wan to give me the name. When try to speak with the manager, the girl said that he does not sit in Ireland.
This app is a waste of time. If this is their CS before I don’t want to k ow what it is after if something happens. Avoid at all costs.

Buyer beware

Buyer beware. I booked an automatic vehicle for a one month rental and three weeks before my trip, I get an email that they have changed my booking from an automatic to manual transmission car. I cannot drive a manual transmission and got no response from my emails to them about the change so I went to cancel and was told it was too late. Apparently you have to cancel one month prior to your reservation, which is ridiculous. I feel like I’ve been scammed. I have been recommending Yuko based on their pricing, but that will never happen again. Clearly their customer service sucks.

Horrendous customer service

Horrendous customer service. I hired a car with KM included but Toyota could not provide car requested. Was then told that they have another car which I gladly took. Had to ring cs every single day as fuel card not working, emailing in not working as apparently mailbox was full where I was told it is a fault on my side. Was never told that I had to pay for km driven on phone though Customer Service Agent insisted that this was quoted. Had my fiance next to me on all calls and she never heard this info either. Agent insisted that calls are recorded. Ended up paying 200 Euros on top of the initial charge I booked the car for in first place. Would have not driven the car as much if I had known. Advise not to book a car with them.

Rejected my application without giving any reason why. No penalty points or speeding fines associated with my license, been driving for years. No offer for help. After seeing other reviews here looks like I dodged a bullet anyway

The website says you can hire a car in…

The website says you can hire a car in Ireland on an International Driving Permit, but customer care says they don't accept an International Driving Permit. Why is there a discrepancy? I know other people from India have got membership and are driving your cars. I've had my license since 2008, it is valid till 2028.
