I recently ordered a custom Medium Guembri from Maalem Hassan, and I am absolutely thrilled with the result. I originally wanted Walnut wood, but Hassan used his expertise to suggest a Poplar body ("One piece") and a Cedar neck to achieve the deep, heavy bass sound I was looking for. He was 100% right! The sound is incredibly authentic and resonant.

The craftsmanship is top-notch: beautifully carved wood, real dromedary skin, and he perfectly integrated the metal tuning keys I requested. Throughout the whole process, he kept me updated with pictures of the build, which was very reassuring. The instrument was shipped safely and arrived in perfect condition in France.

If you are looking for a true master luthier who listens to your needs and delivers high-quality traditional instruments, look no further. Highly recommended! Thank you, Si Hassan!

Hassan made me a fanatastic guembri! He is very knowledgable and answered my questions via email super fast. Also very quick delivery to the UK with no problems at all - was sent out on a Tuesday and arrived the following week. Highly recommended!

I bought a guembri from Hassan and i am 200% happy with it.
The instrument (which he built on demand) is absolutley perfect: there are no mistakes/errors, everything is straight, sits perfectly, Skin, Wood, Tuningpegs, Bridge are all done with precision, perfection and care. There is no buzzing (which can easily occure in such instruments if built wrong), tuning is very stable and even the crazy temperature difference (Morocco to switzerland in winter with -C°, from outside to heated inside rooms) did not have any impact and didnt cause damage or let the skin loose or so.

The wood is high quality, perfectly polished in all places. Even The strings (gut) are higher quality than other gut strings from morocco that i saw; they are twirled 100% clean without any irregularity. The bridge is attached with another gut string to ensure perfect positioning, even if you are new to the instrument.

Further - and very important - communication was as clear as the instrument: He answered always fast and clear, answered all the questioned and kept all the time schedules that we agreed upon (and that is not at all usual. with most other builders, as i am playing different instruments from all over the world, times are never as announced, always longer. But not Hassan, he was everything in time 100%).
I can only say thank you and that Hassan is a very professional instrument builder and a nice guy. i can reccommend him fully - and warn you from others, there are plenty of scammers (also on etsy). If you buy a guembri and you do not have direct contact to somebody you know, you should absolutely buy from Hassan, yelloworkshop. And i only say all this cause i am actually really impressed by his craft, i do not know him personally.

I started this process about six weeks ago, ordering a guembri from Hassan. From the very beginning, he was incredibly responsive and guided me through every step. He even sent photos at each stage so I could follow the progress. When it was time to ship, Hassan took a picture of the finished instrument and the packed box, double-checking all the shipping details. He was nothing but professional throughout the entire process—and the instrument itself speaks volumes.
The guembri arrived in an amazing protective box—wow! It came with a bag and an extra set of strings. This is truly a work of art, with attention to every detail. I had requested pickup, and everything worked perfectly. If you’re considering buying a guembri, I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend Hassan. You are in excellent hands—100%. Don’t walk…run!

I'm also a traditional craftsman and I love music so much. Some months ago I came across Arabian music and especially Gnawa: this was love at first sight, such a deep groove! Such a traditional instrument and so primitive( non- tech), wood, skin and natural strings....
....but for to make it right you need a well experienced craftsman, to make a good choice of the raw- materials and you the skills to put it altogether the right way to get the real deep warm sound of a real Guembri. Hassan is such a good craftsman, he advised to find " my guembri", now I've it... muito obrigado Hassan!!!!

Just recieved a guembri (to Slovenia, EU) from mr. Hassan and I just can not put it down! I had the opportuinity to try several different guembris from different manufacturers in the past and the sound and resonancy with this one is hands down the best. Also, the entire process was simple. Mr. Hassan is very helpful, communicates timely and with perfect English (Via e-mail, watsapp etc.). He sends you the video of the instrument and the picture of the packaging (which is awesome and very study by the way). The payment was simple (Via Paypal), you recieve the invoice during the same day. In general, he communicates with you clearly and on time during each step and he responds to all inquires you might have. A true professional, both in terms of craftmanship as well as shipping process. If you hesitate for wathever reason in geting one of his instruments, just don't.. ☺️❤️
