Community Management... Until You Leave the Front Gate

I contacted VOLI Solutions after months of Emerald Springs residents and visitors regularly using neighbouring residential streets as overflow parking, despite many homes having their own driveways and garages. The result has been ongoing congestion, unnecessary inconvenience for nearby residents and a growing sense that the surrounding streets are simply being treated as an extension of the complex's car park.

I fully understood from the outset that the roads and pedestrian accessway are owned by Sunshine Coast Council and that parking enforcement sits with Council. Unfortunately, much of VOLI's response was devoted to explaining exactly that, including a lengthy history of how the land became public through the subdivision process. It felt like quoting from the rule book rather than engaging with the actual issue being raised.

The question was never "Who owns the road?" It was "What is being done to encourage residents and visitors to be respectful neighbours?"

Reading VOLI's website afterwards was disappointing. They speak about identifying "a gap in the industry", delivering a "higher standard of service", taking a "proactive approach", and "enhancing the living experience for all residents." Yet when presented with an issue affecting not only residents but also the surrounding community, I experienced the opposite. Rather than leadership or proactive community management, I received a carefully constructed explanation of why responsibility lay elsewhere.

No one expected VOLI Solutions to issue parking fines. But good building management isn't measured by how well you can quote legislation or explain jurisdiction. It's measured by whether you're prepared to engage with problems, communicate expectations to your residents, and help foster a respectful relationship with the wider community.

Professional? Yes. Proactive? Unfortunately, not in my experience.
