Total Scalpers

Total Cards attempted to keep my money (stealing) for 10 months, refused to give me the products I ordered and made no apology.

I preordered Pokémon Paldean Fates products in December 2024 wanting to complete my master set. For 10 months, I never received my product and also received no updates on when I’d receive it unless I actively badgered their customer service.

Last week a friend of mine who also shops there informed me that actually, they had these products in recently, and rather than give me the product I had prepaid for, they scalped them off for around 3x the price. I emailed them angrily about this and they *admitted they had the product and sold it for more*, offered no apology and finally processed my refund after almost a year. This is after I’ve loyally purchased products from them (YuGiOh, Pokemon, singles and accessories) for about 1.5 years.

Don’t even bother ordering from Total Cards in 2025 or get ready to be scammed. Used to be a solid shop, but has rapidly gone downhill, which is evident from the prices (higher than any other shops in the local area, including small independent vendors) and game nights with only 6-8 people.

Hi There,

We’re sorry to hear you feel this way. To clarify, the Paldean Fates restock we received a while back was for the Quaquaval version only, not the Skeledirge or Meowscarada boxes you pre-ordered. If we had received your versions, your order would have been fulfilled immediately.

We agree we should have reached out to offer you the Quaquaval boxes as an alternative at the time, that was our mistake, and we’ve already made sure your refund was processed in full.

We never intended to keep your money or resell your pre-ordered items, and we understand how the situation came across. The Pokémon restock process has been unpredictable this past year, and we’ve done our best to manage customer pre-orders with the limited information and stock we receive.

We do appreciate the support you’ve given us in the past and are genuinely sorry that this experience left you disappointed.

Total Cards? More like Total Waste!

Constant late pre-orders (and always getting the same response of "supplier issues", even after apparently changing supplier).
Had an order not arrive even after EIGHT MONTHS, with no communication and nothing done until I got fed up and just told them I wanted a refund.

DO NOT USE! Other sites are far more reliable!

Hi James

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on Trustpilot. We truly value all feedback and use it to help improve our service wherever possible. I am very sorry to hear that your experience hasn’t met the standard we aim to deliver.

In regard to your backorder, when items are purchased on this basis we place the order with our suppliers. Unfortunately, they have yet to provide this stock, and accessories suppliers in particular are known for delays. Please be assured that we are actively working to secure these items, and we fully understand how frustrating the wait can be.

As mentioned in our emails, we are the retailer and not the supplier or manufacturer, so we are limited to the information we are given. I do appreciate your feedback about communication and will make sure this is raised with the team. We never want customers to feel left in the dark, but with no updates from suppliers it can be difficult to share meaningful progress without simply repeating that there is still no change.

Supplier issues have been impacting many UK retailers recently, and while some stores have managed to source stock, suppliers rarely disclose their distribution chains. If we could switch to a faster source, we certainly would.

We completely understand your frustration, we feel the same, as our goal is always to get orders out to customers as quickly as possible. Delays across major TCGs have become increasingly common, but this doesn’t make the situation any less disappointing for you.

Thank you again for your feedback. We will continue to use it to improve, and we truly hope you will give us another chance in the future to deliver the 5* experience that we know we are capable of and that so many of our customers enjoy.

Kind Regards
Ryan

not good

I don't appreciate how this company have dealt with pokemon TCG products. There are smaller companies that are managing to sell new products at a normal price, yet total cards are often charging more due to 'limited availability' that everyone else is also dealing with.

Plus to get early access to buy these products, you would have to pay around £500 a month as they choose to reset their tier systems every single month! Leaves a bad taste for loyal customers who have previously spent a lot with them and it needs rethinking.

Hi Ellie

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on Trustpilot. We truly value all feedback and use it to improve our service wherever possible. I’m very sorry to hear that your experience hasn’t met the standard we aim to deliver.

I do apologise that you’ve not had the best experience with our shop. This is certainly not the experience we want any of our customers to have.

I’d like to clarify a few points you raised in your review:

Regarding Pricing
We understand your concerns and appreciate you sharing them. Our prices are based on what we’re charged by our suppliers, and unfortunately, recent increases in their costs have had a knock-on effect. We also have to factor in rising operational costs such as staff wages and overheads. That said, we always check our prices against other online retailers and work hard to stay as competitive as possible. If you ever come across a lower price elsewhere, please don’t hesitate to email us at support@totalcards.net, we’re happy to look into a potential price match 😊

Early Access & Tier System
We’ve been trialling a number of different methods to give more collectors fairer access to limited stock. Our tier system, which has been in place for some time, is one such approach. Many customers have found this to be a better experience overall, and we are actively reviewing and refining it, including the tier thresholds.

We’ve also tried other formats like raffles, but no method has been perfect. While some enjoy them, others feel they miss out, and unfortunately, this is a challenge with the limited stock that Pokémon currently provides to LGSs.

Once again, we’re genuinely sorry that your experience hasn’t been what you expected. We’re committed to improving and will take your feedback on board to continue building a better experience for everyone.

We do hope you'll give us another chance in the future. Thank you again for your honest review.

Kind Regards

Return refused, hidden terms & conditions

Bought a £200 Mystery Box and had really high hopes. The contents were well below the value paid and the boxes are NOT RETURNABLE. The photos on the listing are not an accurate representation of any box contents at all - I am aware it’s a mystery box so obviously the photos aren’t of what you’ll receive, but they provided a vastly inflated impression of expected box contents. Mine contained items, mostly accessories and toys (tat) with a current market value of around £160. I paid £200, plus shipping. The listing description and photos are misleading.

It doesn’t state on the listing that these are NOT RETURNABLE, regardless of whether you’ve opened them or not, nor is this information provided in the Returns & Refunds policy. Customer service were polite but unhelpful and quoted that it states in their Ts&Cs that they’re not returnable, but it doesn’t say so anywhere on their listing, nor are the Ts&Cs provided during the buying process when using Shop Pay to pay. The information on them not being returnable is also not stated in their Returns & Refunds policy, it’s hidden low down in the Terms & Conditions, which feels deliberately misleading and dishonest. I’ve contacted Trading Standards for advice on whether these policies abide by UK consumer law with regards to the Distance Selling Regulations and hidden terms.

Hi Helen

We're really sorry to hear that your Pokémon Mystery Box didn’t meet your expectations. We always aim for every customer to have a positive and exciting experience, and it’s disappointing to learn that we fell short in your case.

With regard to the contents of the box, we do our best to include a wide variety of items and ensure that the total value meets or exceeds the advertised amount of £200. As mentioned in our previous email, this value is based on current market pricing and our own prices on the site, at the time of packing.

We’d also like to clarify our returns policy for Mystery Products. As outlined in our Terms and Conditions, which are clearly available at the bottom of every page on our site and at checkout, Mystery Products are non-refundable. This is due to the randomised nature of these items. The specific section states:

"Our Mystery products are non-refundable. This is due to the random nature of these products and once opened or purchased are no longer eligible to be returned, exchanged or refunded."

I completely understand that this may not be the outcome you had hoped for. I do apologise if my responses came across as unsatisfactory. I’ve done my best to provide all relevant information, but I will be sharing our full conversation with our management team for review, so they can help identify any ways I can improve communication going forward.

Regarding the product images on the listing, I’d also like to reiterate what we shared in our email:

"The images shown are intended to give an idea of the types of items that may be included, but they do not guarantee specific products. Each box is hand-picked, and we always encourage customers to read the Terms and Conditions before placing an order."

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly hope you’ll consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide the 5-star experience we are known for.

Kind Regards
Ryan

Not really fair trade-in process

The company offers trade-in options with a process that arguably puts them in a position to win every time.

You need to send the cards to the shop completely blind from what the offer would be, then you need to either accept or deny their offer.

If you deny, you will need to pay the sorting fee and shipping cost to retrieve your items, or you will be offered a low-value quote (so you don't fall into the previously described ending).

A quote in advance (or range, or value calculator) would be better, so the consumer has an estimate of the value being sent.

Hi Gab

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on Trustpilot. We take all feedback seriously and genuinely use it to improve our services wherever possible. I’m very sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations, this is never the outcome we aim for.

I would like to take a moment to clarify a few of the points raised in your review:

Valuation Process
We understand the frustration around not receiving a valuation before sending in your cards. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible as we need to assess the physical condition of each card to provide a fair and accurate offer. While we can get a general idea from photos, they don’t always reflect finer condition details. Our team does aim to give a rough indication when possible and also provides clear communication that the final offer will be made after hands-on inspection.

Submission Fees
We’re fully transparent about our fees, these are outlined clearly in our submission form before any cards are sent. These fees help cover the time and work of our submissions team, who carefully review each card, regardless of whether the offer is accepted or declined. If an offer is refused, the return shipping cost also needs to be covered, and we always offer our tracked service at a discounted rate to make this as easy as possible for you.

Valuation Amount
We do appreciate that your quoted offer may have been lower than expected. Please rest assured that all quotes are based on the current market value at the time of assessment. We also have to factor in business-related costs such as VAT, processing, and staff time, which is why our offer may differ from customer-to-customer selling platforms. We always strive to be as competitive and fair as possible within those limits.

We genuinely appreciate your feedback and are already working on ways to improve our submission process going forward. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we’re sorry that on this occasion we couldn’t deliver the experience we aim to provide

Kind Regards
Ryan.

Bizarre and unprofessional

Pre ordered some stock with plenty of time and there was a delay in some of it arriving. I was not told this and whilst seeing other stores receive stock without issue, it must be that this store uses a distribution network that isn't great. Email replies were quick but lacking in any care or professionalism.

In the end due to the ambiguity I asked for a refund which took a fair old while to get back to me.

I think also judging on other reviews that this shop may burn you one way or another and please do research before purchasing ( if I would have known they were on whatnot I would have not made a purchase)

I also asked in a public group about my concerns and was met with other unhappy reviews so my advice would be stear clear of this one.
********************

In reply to the point raised about whatnot. It is clearly known that the platform has a poor record and it is also known in the collecting community that there are a fair few bad actors on that platform. Although it may be fun to interact with an audience of collectors I do not believe the promotion of gambling or the promotion of the platform to be good practice. Please check out rattle on YouTube and you will see daily videos of Pokémon scammers on that platform from all around the world.

I understand that you may also have tried on your emails and that the refund process "is in line with guidelines" but that doesn't really improve the situation I had.

After all the feedback from other reviews and from the communities I am in I will most likely not use this business again and I again promote the use of research before purchasing along with not purchasing with somewhere that does not agree with your ethics

Hi Phillipe

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on Trustpilot. We truly value all feedback, as it helps us reflect and improve the service we provide to our customers.

I’m really sorry to hear that your experience hasn't lived up to expectations, this is certainly not the standard we aim for, and I do apologise.

I'd like to take a moment to clarify a few points raised in your review. Regarding our email communication, I’m sorry if my responses came across as unprofessional or lacking care. At Total Cards, we make a conscious effort to avoid robotic, templated replies and instead offer personalised responses. This is done with the intention of being more helpful and human, but I understand if this didn’t come across as intended in your case.

In terms of the refund process, I appreciate that waiting can be frustrating. We do advise that refunds can take up to 10 working days to process, which is in line with standard practice, but I understand that it can feel like a long time, especially when you're waiting on an update.

As for the stock delays, I completely understand your disappointment. Unfortunately, we were not provided with timely updates from Bandai or the suppliers regarding the stock in question. We’ve continued to chase for information and pass on anything we receive as soon as we can, but we are ultimately reliant on the timelines and communication provided to us.

Regarding your comment about Whatnot, many of our customers enjoy the interactive, community-driven nature of the streams, and it's become a fun way for people to connect with us. That said, we understand it’s not for everyone and always aim to keep our core online service just as strong. We'd love to understand more about your concern here if you're open to sharing.

Once again, I do apologise for the experience you've had. Your feedback will be shared with the team and taken seriously as we continue to improve. We genuinely hope you’ll consider giving us another chance to deliver the 5-star experience we know we’re capable of.

Kind Regards
Ryan

You could buy here or cheaper from scalpers

Wow! Card shop charging more than scalpers, unbelievable!

The shop claims to be "for the community" and that they "value" their customers but that must only apply when their is not extra profit to be squeezed out of people, new release Pokémon ETBs £20 above retail, various single packs £10, £15 and even £45 in some cases!

Before TCs starts saying it's about market fluctuations, suppliers, staff costs, rent ect ect their is a local shop the next town over who orders a small fraction of what TC dose from the same distributor, so dose not have the wholesale buying power TC dose but still sells the ETBs at retail. The ETBs are cheaper from scalpers on eBay/ Facebook ect and are delivered to your door, with proof of purchase. Other reputable online stores are selling the £45 packs TC has for £30, £15 below TC and yes they order directly from the supplier to and are genuine.

Honestly, why anyone buys for or supports this store is beyond me. Really disappointing and such a shame for a card shop this size that is right on our door step.

Hi Muhammad

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on TrustPilot. We genuinely value all feedback and use it to continually improve our service.

I’d like to clarify that we are a legitimate retailer, officially listed on Pokémon’s own website as an authorised seller. We take pride in the trust our customers place in us and always aim to deliver a reliable experience.

Regarding your refund, we have communicated across multiple tickets that the process can take up to 10 working days. We’ve responded to all your enquiries, and I’m sorry if it felt otherwise. I understand how frustrating it can be to wait, and we do appreciate your patience.

As for the website access issue, this is unrelated to your refund request. We’ve recently strengthened our bot detection measures, and your account was automatically flagged due to activity patterns that resembled automated behaviour. This can occasionally happen in error, and we’re actively working to fine-tune this system.

You emailed over the weekend, and as our support team operates Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, I responded as soon as I was back in. I’m very sorry if the timing gave the impression that your messages were being ignored.

Once again, I apologise for any inconvenience caused, Muhammad. If you need further assistance, our support team is always here to help where we can.

Kind Regards

Ordered some Japanese White Flare…

Ordered some Japanese White Flare booster packs and they actually came earlier than expected which was great! I pulled the BWR Reshiram card and was excited until I noticed that there were two areas of missing texture on the card, but I'm assuming this was just bad quality control on the printing side. Despite being a bit bummed about this I'm overall happy with the shopping experience.

Unprofessional and full of bad practices

Avoid this place. Never order online from them.

Business is very poorly managed, by people who are clearly only in it for money.
Regular staff are alright but are at the mercy of horrendous management, it’s a recipe for disaster.

Recently pre-ordered some pokemon cards at regular price, only to be emailed by the company days later stating that they made a pricing error and need me to pay the difference.

Normally I’d think “eh, bad company” and move on, but their email responses have been so unprofessional, pushing all blame onto the customers and going so far as to gaslight them?!

Genuinely, stay away from these guys. It shouldn’t be supported.

Should they leave a response here attempting to clear their name, don’t believe it. It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Hi Ryan

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that you feel this way.

We’d like to clarify that this was not a scam or us scalping this, but rather a genuine pricing error that occurred during the listing of a product. As soon as we noticed the mistake, we reached out to all affected customers, including yourself, to explain the issue and offer the available options for this, we can see that you have chosen to refund the order rather than continue with this order.

We understand that this was disappointing, and we do regret the inconvenience caused. However, our actions were in line with our Terms and Conditions, which are agreed to at the point of purchase. We did not, and would never, intentionally mislead our customers, we are collectors ourselves and with this being a Japanese product, there were mistranslations which we apologise for.

We’ve always aimed to treat all feedback and concerns with respect and transparency, and we’re sorry that our communication came across as unprofessional. That was certainly not our intention as you can see our support team always aim to give the very best to all customers.

We do hope that you will give us a second chance and thank you once again for your review

We completely understand how frustrating delays can be, we don’t like them either. Our team worked hard behind the scenes to secure the stock and get your order dispatched as quickly as possible, we had all orders out the same day the stock arrived with us.

Hi Simon

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on TrustPilot. We do appreciate all reviews, as this is how we learn and are able to continue improving our service.

We did want to take a moment to address some of the points in your review, as they are concerning and not reflective of our values or how we strive to work. You mentioned that we are more concerned with money than customers, this just isn't the case. We aim to keep prices as low as we can, but Pokémon items have gotten considerably more costly, and supplies are far more limited. With the majority of suppliers out of stock, we've had to source items from private collectors to be able to continue supplying items to our community.

Regarding your block from the stream, this was not a light decision. This was due to the negative feedback during a recent stream, particularly regarding advising customers to be wary of us, and bringing negativity to the chat, Unfortunately, this impacts the environment for everyone involved. With many of our Whatnot community also coming forward to defend us. While we value feedback sincerely, we do ask that any issues be raised via direct message so they can be addressed respectfully and positively.

We would also like to point out that we do attempt to be transparent with all of our products. Product details, including the contents of the "Rip 'til You Hit" format, are clearly outlined on our Whatnot. If something has been confusing, we truly apologise for this.

Our streams focus on community, fun, and respect, and it's truly disappointing to hear that your experience wasn't reflective of that.

Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you all the best moving forward.

Kind Regards
Ryan

Hi Scott

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on Trustpilot. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience you experienced with this particular release.

To clarify, when this product went live, over 5,000+ notification emails were sent out to interested customers at the same time as you. Unfortunately, due to a highly limited UK allocation, we only put in a small quantity. Allocation levels are determined by the distributors and manufacturers, so we don’t have direct control over how much stock we receive, especially for highly anticipated sets like Prismatic Evolutions.

We completely understand how frustrating this can be, especially with how unpredictable Pokémon stock availability has become lately. That said, we’re actively reviewing all orders to ensure no one has broken the limit of one per person/household. If we find any that have, we will be cancelling and refunding them, so there is a chance we may be able to restock a few more units.

With the recent surge in Pokémon’s popularity, it's clear that supply has not kept up with demand. We would love nothing more than to stock enough to meet everyone’s interest.

We’re genuinely sorry that your experience wasn’t what you’d hoped for, and we really hope you'll give us the chance in the future to deliver the 5-star service we’re known for.

Thank you again for your review

IMPORTANT FOR READERS

IMPORTANT FOR READERS: Their responses to everyone regarding this specific situation have been lies. This “store policy” of limits on booster bundles was NOT there when I placed my order back in November 2024. Gaslighting your customers is actually crazy. If there ACTUALLY was a limit, you would not be able to add more than one to your basket, let alone check out and pay.

And them claiming to make the stock available at MSRP at their gaming centre like they’re some sort of saviour is funny. If they do end up doing this, it’s likely just to save face after the backlash. If that’s the case, why was the same item on your website marked up recently? And why are you selling individual packs on whatnot for £8.95?

Onto my story:

Placed a preorder well over 5 months ago, which included 4 Pokemon Prismatic Booster Bundles. £23.95 each.

Last month, my order was fulfilled but with only one of the four items - saying only “some of your items have shipped”. No mention of cancellation or anything.

Fast forward, today I receive an email that saying those extra items have been refunded - a whole 5 months after placing the preorder and a month after the release date of those specific items. Their reasoning was “product limit of one per cutomer”. This is completely untrue as there was no limit at the time and they sold the same item for a marked up price on their website just a couple weeks back. They’re using this excuse as they see the product is sought after and don’t want to sell for retail price. Scalper behaviour.

The recent boom in Pokemon has shown which retailers actually value their customers and which ones take advantage of them. I will not be returning even if they sell these products at MSRP again as this experience has shown me they’re no different to scalpers.
