The perfect team

Our second garden party with the Little Kitchen Co. Bigger than the first but equally impeccably managed by Catherine, Louise and Chef Lee. They were ably supported by their three colleagues in absolutely torrential rain throughout the whole evening. Every aspect from party spec with Catherine through food preparation, service and flexibility in awful weather was faultless. We continue to recommend them without hesitation. Thank you so much.

Poor Communication, Great Food

This review comes in two parts. Firstly, for the service prior to our wedding day. I have to be totally honest, I found the service incredibly poor. The person assigned to our account (Monique) cancelled face to face meetings with no notice (1 hour prior to the meeting), failed to communicate with us on a number of occasions and failed to provide accurate allergen information which could have been dangerous for our guests. The owner, Cait, is also incredibly rude and unhelpful and it took a staff member, Catherine to turn it around. She really is an asset to the company as she provided appropriate communication and made sure we had accurate allergen information. It is disappointing that Monique was unable to do this, but we are thankful to Catherine for her support.

When it came to the day, though, this company is 5 stars. A huge thank you and shoutout goes to Vicky who was phenomenal throughout the day. She communicated with us throughout the event, ensured that we were enjoying the day and was totally amazing from start to finish. The food served was also fantastic and the guests commented on how the meals were fantastic.

Perhaps we were unlucky with the service prior to the day, but I have to say that Vicky and the team on the day, really did turn it around.

I picked this company to cater for a Christmas supper

I picked this company to cater for a pre-Christmas meal for 22 because it was local and seemed to have good reviews.
I collected the meal late afternoon and very luckily checked the paperwork when I got home, because I found it was 6 portions short. I phoned them and they checked their chillers and freezers and categorically told me there were no extra portions. With less than 2 hours to go, I had to rush to Waitrose to buy ready meals. They then phoned me to say they had found some after all. Once I got to the venue, I found that the raspberry cheesecake was missing the raspberries. They must have known – why didn’t they tell me?
The staff were very apologetic and we received a prompt refund. What annoyed me was that Cait the manager emailed me to say that the refund on the cheesecake was a ‘good will gesture’ when in fact, as the item was not as described on their website (‘A creamy white chocolate cheesecake on a shortbread biscuit base topped with raspberries’), they were therefore legally obliged to refund. The email also seemed to suggest that if I had waited before rushing to buy the ready meals, they would have supplied the missing portions. A truly reputable company would not make mistakes like this – you need to be able to put complete trust in a company when catering for a special event. Apologies are all very well but a true ‘good will gesture’ would have helped. I would never use them again and advise anyone who does to check everything thoroughly. In fact, the Waitrose ready meals were nicer and half the price.

We used the the little kitchen company to cater for 30 people luncheon

We used the the little kitchen company on the recommendation of another company that was fully booked (Peapod and Co). The job was to cater for 30 people for our son's christening. They misrepresented the food that we selected from their menu (for example did not put creme cheese in the smoked salmon sandwiches and stretched the smoked salmon so thin that you could see the bread underneath), overcharged for what was provided (over GBP100 for a pot of shop bought hummus which we saw in it's packaging; were unable to provide an itemised invoice; served our delicious champagne warm despite assurances that they would use an igloo to cool it; their lemon drizzle cake they refused to make into a christening cake probably because these were also shop bought (all uniform with a squiggle of icing and very dry). We specifically asked for red peppers for the crudités but were provided with green (we did not want as they are indigestible). We paid the bulk of the invoice the day before and continued to press for an itemised invoice (they refused to provide and we still do not have an itemised invoice) and they sent an email saying they would not proceed without full payment. The day before! Extremely stressful. Further testifies to the fact that most of the food was not home made. I can only assume some other dissatisfied customers have had a hard time understanding what exactly they are paying for hence the need to collect full payment up front. I have not experienced this with restaurants before and I understand it's not normal practice. All in all for a client who loves good quality food and value we were very disappointed. I would absolutely encourage anyone reading this to find a different catering outfit.
