Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 53 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Travelers frequently report that regional trains are constantly delayed or cancelled without proper warning, leaving daily commuters stranded on dark platforms for extended periods. Consumers also strongly emphasize that standard ticket prices are extremely expensive considering the consistently poor quality and inefficient management of the entire railway network. Though some customers experienced severe disruptions, a few reviewers praised individual staff members for offering exceptionally kind and helpful assistance during difficult travel situations. Passengers additionally noted that unexpected schedule changes frequently ruin daily commutes and consistently cause missed professional appointments across the entire region.

Just an absolutely terrible service

Just an absolutely terrible service. More than half of the time my trains are either cancelled or so delayed that I miss connecting trains. How this company can keep running is beyond me and is the definition of a monopoly.

After yet another tuff day

After yet another tuff day, i was faced with yet another dreadful service from not so great northern trains/ not so greater anglia trains.

Delays outbound to and from London from Ely and its now become so bad ive had to change my working hours to suit this awful service. Not only do these dreadful trains run late or cancel at short notice, but even when you get on them you are shaken like a damn coctail shacker.

Please guys get it sorted or ill just not pay these ridiculous fare charges for a terrible service and jump the trains like so many do.

Sort it out!!!

The service is disgusting

The service is awful. We're not on strike days and I've been delayed by 3 hours so far. It's far time the directors stopped making record profits and actually provided an acceptable service.
I pay £28 a day for this shameful service.
Would never recommend

They have to be the most over staffed…

They have to be the most over staffed and poorly run company in the history of train operators- I watch the 4 to 5 members of staff everyday for years and o have never and I mean never t have I ever seen them work - I am however getting to know they like strictly and Google box is a popular topic - I find myself becoming increasingly frustrated at the way they operate and hope one day someone takes control and runs it like a proper company

Surly and rude

I have been travelling on Great Northern services and all of the previous operators for over forty years. I have had enough experiences to write a book. And yet they do not know my name and they could care less what my name is. Just as long as they extract their pound of flesh for their entirely sub-standard service. I have met some genuinely helpful and friendly staff at the ticket office but they are rare on the ground. I have also encountered some polite and friendly staff through email contact. But without a doubt the service provided by the staff at the gates for platforms nine and ten at London King's Cross are remarkable for their rudeness, poor manners and downright surliness. It's almost like they feel they are doing me a favour by allowing me to spend thousands of pounds a year for a dreadful service. And almost as equally bad are the staff on the customer help desk at King's Cross. Indifferent, lazy, unhelpful, passive-aggressive and poorly-mannered all spring to mind. If they spent less time chatting to their friends, checking their mobile phones, sleeping at their desks and ignoring customers they could provide a better service. I have spent literally hundreds of hours observing their shenanigans while waiting for late and cancelled trains. I highly recommend it if you want a snapshot of why the country is in the dire state it is in.

Thieves take train money from people…

Thieves take train money from people and carry them by bus, they never blush and are not ashamed. I wonder if those who run this place are ashamed, do they think they deserve the money they get, do they think they deserve it? Great Northern don't even deserve 1 star, their train services are that poor. rarely punctual, frequently cancelled without any prior notice. They also charge higher amount even to travel within London / Oyster zones. I don't know how this is not regulated. In nutshell, paying for the rubbish service. TfL is more reliable than this.

Shame

This is the 20:53 train from Ely to London Kings Cross: Cans, bottles, generic rubbish.
No one care about cleaning the train before leaving. Only the traveller from London will have the luxury to have it cleaned! Shame

A little can mean so much

There aren’t enough thank you’s in the world to express my gratitude to two of your fabulous staff members at Stevenage station. Karen and Andrea went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help me get reunited with my phone which had irreplaceable photos on it of my dad who passed away last year. I hadn’t backed them up and they would have been lost forever. Those photos are priceless and I was in floods of tears. I will never forget their compassion and kindness. A million thank you’s from me and my Dad (who probably walked past you every day at the station on his way to work). You never know what that extra effort can mean to someone!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
