I went through all of the motions to file, paid, and figured I was done. It had been several days and I hadn't received my return, usually they come pretty quick. I logged back in and I guess there was still more work to do regarding filing after the payment. So I ended up filing my taxes late, even though I had a receipt showing I paid on 4/10. Pretty frustrating. I ended up finalizing the taxes but not finding out until 4/21 kind of irked me.

All Inclusive Deal $129, not so inclusive and $189
I normally just start for free and then upgrade as I go. I love the software, but was extremely disappointed to choose the all inclusive deal of $129 which included a state filing to get to the end and pay $189 still with no state. Makes me not trust any special you advertise at the beginning.

LOTS of hidden fees
Terrible experience. At every turn, theres a hidden fee. Free? hardly. mine was over 200 bucks just for simple filing.

Navigation could be improved but other features are worth it
It's a little frustrating to navigate when you want to go back to a specific page (FreeTaxUSA does this better), but otherwise this is a great tax software. It's the only one that properly handles registered domestic partnerships in CA and still allows you to e-file! The new AI filing assistant is also very helpful, but be careful - like any AI, it can make mistakes.

Well done ! Some things can be explained. Foe eg to get out of the India security document the only way is to disable the waiving of self employment tax, Thsi needed research. This should be flagged and a link to that section so that no need to research .

Clarity of filing completion status
I thought I had submitted my electronic federal return, even though I was required to submit a paper filing of my state return. I missed a signal somewhere that my federal return had not been submitted. This is a second submission of my federal return. Now I'm not sure that TaxAct has properly saved all my information from my state return paper filing, which could impact the ease of my 2026 state filing next year.
