Disappointing Stay at the Tanoa Hotel in Apia Samoa

I am really disappointed to have to be giving a bad review as I wanted to love my experience at Tanoa Hotel, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations.

Firstly, our 'double deluxe room' bore little resemblance to the notion of 'deluxe'. It was essentially a standard room with two beds and a bathroom, and it was quite worn down, clearly in need of upgrades. The images displayed on their website appear to be outdated, as the reality did not align with the expectations set by those pictures.

Moreover, the customer service was noticeably lacking, and absent in most areas. It raises concerns regarding whether staff receive adequate training on how to assist guests effectively. For instance, I requested extra pillows upon our arrival on the first night, and despite being assured they would be organised, 12 nights later, I was still without them and had received no further communication. I followed up with reception on several occasions, only to be met with the same promise of delivery that never materialised.

The same issue arose when I requested bath towels due to our room not being serviced; once again, no clean towels were provided. Additionally, I found that the attitude of some staff members (though not all) left much to be desired, as it felt as though my requests were an annoyance rather than a priority. Also if you’re wanting pool towels you need to ask reception for them and they’ll ask you how many you need (making sure you don’t take any extra per head count of your room) and then they’ll ask you to sign off for them and if they aren’t brought back to reception after use then you will be up for a charge of $50 tala per towel.

The overall servicing of the rooms was basic and in need of improvement. By the end of our stay, our room was not serviced at all, which significantly impacted our experience.

Regrettably, I cannot recommend staying at Tania Hotel. I would advise potential guests to consider alternatives, such as the Sheraton up the road or the Lava Hotel next door, which may offer a more satisfactory experience.
