TADO RU01
Run application on PC so all information is easy to read.
Relatively easy to set up.
Long time recommender - will soon be leaving
Tado have made an incredibly self destructive decision to abandon the smart home community that invest in their products.
Tado are premium products and I have always recommended them to friends and family - however their recent changes to reduce service API calls for non-subscription customers is a money grab that makes their products no longer worth the premium.
Until recently I was considering upgrading to their new tadoX lineup but not anymore.
invest in a platform that supports the smart home community instead of hindering it. Don't buy tado.

Awful company practices
Awful company practices. Changed and restricted a service sold as part of their product years later. I would not recommend buying into their devices.

If you are thinking about a smart home…
If you are thinking about a smart home and you want manage your thermostat with your private hub go away from Tado. They have changed their API policy and now my thermostats are no longer usable in my Home assistant ecosystem

Abysmal service. Avoid at all cost.
Abysmal. Tado is squeezing customers for more money by forcing subscriptions down your throat. Now limiting API calls from 5000/day to 100/day unless you pay and there's no local API option. Avoid at all cost.
Edit for Tado response:
Imagine the gall for calling a customer who spent hundreds of euros on your thermostat and TRVs a “non-paying customer”. Like I’m a common thief who stole these products from a store. I bought the product and deserve to use it how I want. Limiting API rates because you want to sell a subscription service is not customer service but mAxIMizInG ShaREhOLdER VaLUe. If your cloud API can’t handle it then GIVE ME A LOCAL API to talk to.

DON'T BUY
DON'T BUY! Terrible brand. Have had eight Tado thermostats for six years now, and they never held a reliable temperature in any room. Worst though, is that you no can no longer use them with smart home systems like Home Assistant. Tado now forces you to pay for premium subscription for proper smart home use, so much better to buy Sonoff or even no-name Chinese smart thermostats. Avoid Tado and spare yourself the money and frustration.

The Support AI chat does not help
The Support AI chat does not help. Took some google calls to see that Tado restricted me.
Contrary to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which clearly stipulates that this data must be provided free of charge and at all times, and in some cases even continuously, Tado restricts this and demands additional fees.
Every Chinese Wi-Fi thermostat offers this – so Tado is out.
/edit
EU law clearly states that this personal data must be made available free of charge at all times. This law has been legally binding since September 2025.

Devices are useless without a subscription - no option of direct, local control
Tado offer zero local control for their products, then try to justify their subscription model due to high API running costs.
Their devices are a walled garden that have zero practical integration with third party tools such as Google Home or Home Assistant. They hide basic features behind a subscription, and rate-limiting to a point where the devices become unusable.
My tado thermostat has become useless due to their treatment of anyone who dares to try and use the product outside of the official app. They will claim that API usage was never officially supported, and they're "doing us a favour" by offering it at all, but they're missing the point. The server costs that they claim are unsustainable would be immediately solved if they just allowed local, direct access to control tado devices, but they won't do that.
Tado have shown that they are not interested in looking after their customers, and I would recommend that anyone looking for a smart heating system goes with one of their many competitors. I used to love Tado, but they've shown time and time again that they don't care.

Tado was a fine product
Tado was a fine product, until they want to force you into a subscription model, which I do not need at all!
Home assistant integration is being removed, to move you to a subscriptionmodel, for a few api calls... Very annoying.
Time to move to a new brand, that does not need a cloud at all.

@Tado Herzie je API policies!!
Addendum:
Your basic functionality for V3+ systems is very limited for the price you asked. Just a single dumb schedule. No interaction with any other smart device is possible.
Your daily API limit for ‘non-paying’ is 100 compared to 20.000 for people paying monthly fees. It is unusable, unfair and greedy.

Simply, friendly, and it works
Simply installation of both accessories. Aplication is user-friendly. I am happy with your product.
The Tado smart thermostat works well…
The Tado smart thermostat works well with my combi boiler to significantly reduce my energy bill.
Amazing product
Amazing product. Works as it should and so adaptable to different system and wiring so easy. Fitted smart trvs aswell to system and so user friendly. Ai system always works and the window detection is spot on every time. Saving energy and money from day 1. Never going to fit any other smart thermostats brands ever again. Top product
Not recommended for Homeautomation
Update: Tado just confirmed: API use had never been part of the official product. So in case you want to build your own Homassistant, do not use tado.
Tip: Look into the feedback of the very enthusiastic user base. All are baffled from the limitations Tado intrdocued with its API limit (free API limit is super low, not "generous", as tado implies).
Unusable since the company is limiting API calls. If you want a homeautomation with e.g. Homeassistant, this is the WRONG choice!

All was fine, now not AVOID
All was fine, (fitted 2022)until they brought out their new version X, since then the old system which was faultless previously has so many issues, constantly loosing connection, turning itself on/off, we have this system in two properties and both has identical issues, one a new build with thin walls, the other a cottage. We are away at the moment and the tado in the properties isn’t controlling the heating with is off, or supposed to be. It’s burning £8 a day, according to the smart meter, £0.30 is the standing charge. It’s on 24/7, they say that the valves store the programme in it, so if it looses connection it still follows the set programme, this isn’t true as our whole system is in frost protection, so how is it burning £7.70 of gas a day and it’s 8 degrees outside and the house is 15-6 degrees. We are away for 3 weeks and it will have wasted £161 of gas. It did the same thing last time we went away. AVOID! Wouldn’t buy there new system now given these issues, sad as I was a total preacher and loved it after HIVE. 4-5 friends have also said they are experiencing the same issues since the new version was released now with theirs, I pay for the subscription, support has been non existent. AVOID NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
I’ve provided both my email addresses the accounts are associated with so I don’t understand the reply.
Hello Thomas,
Thank you for contacting us.
Starting January 16th around 5pm CET, our systems started to have a partial gradual increase in latency in processing certain events, like manual setpoint changes, for the Line X devices. This increasing latency was unfortunately missed by our automated monitoring as these were delays and not outright failures. Therefore, the fix was applied after it was noticed in-person by one of our engineers on the evening of January 18th.
There was no distinctive underlying failure, our systems just reached a point where processing power was not enough for the increasing load.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused and to avoid such situations in the future we’ve updated our monitoring to closely track delays in processing. Thank you!

Unreliable connection and poor support so far
For about a week now I’ve been experiencing serious issues with my Bridge, Receiver and Wireless Temperature Sensor. They randomly disconnect from the app several times a day. The Bridge LED keeps changing status on its own. Sometimes all LEDs show connected, yet the app still cannot control heating or hot water. The temperature sensor also shows as unavailable.
A few hours later everything works again – completely randomly.
I have:
replaced both Ethernet and power cables
re-paired all devices
completed all troubleshooting steps
The app eventually suggests that my router might be faulty. That’s very unlikely — I have 10+ other devices connected (WiFi and LAN) with zero issues.
There is also no clear option in the app to fully remove the Bridge and start from scratch.
I contacted support. The chatbot only repeats basic troubleshooting steps. A human agent ended the chat saying they would contact me by email — no email received.
The system worked perfectly for a couple of years. Problems started only a week ago.
After checking recent reviews and community forums, I can see that similar connection issues are being reported by other users as well. This suggests the problem may not be an isolated case.
Very disappointing for a system that is supposed to control essential heating.

Moved into a new house with a baby
Moved into a new house with a baby. It has Tado but the system won’t register. Customer service is non-existent. No phone number and hopeless AI chatbot. I shall be replacing the whole system with something that works.

Really easy to install. Great product. Check compatibility
Although informed I could not use the Tado X as a straight swap with my existing Danfos TPOne-M I checked and it appeared simple enough as I had two wired thermostats with no open therm wiring. Following the instructions on the app it would not go any further but in truth it was fine and works amazingly well. Highly recommend. I believe this is the best out there and can't wait to start using the smart radiator valves. They can call heat and fire up the boiler for individual rooms when used with the smart Tado X thermostats
Very good once I got it installed
Very good once I got it installed. App could be a bit more user friendly. Other that great product.
No recommended
Bought the system almost a year ago. No problems installing and it worked straight away. However, within a couple of weeks I was replacing batteries and seem to regularly have to change them. The valves on the extremities of the house routinely fall off the bridge which is located centrally so often wake up in a cold bedroom. One has recently stopped recording an accurate temperature (reading about 7 degrees high). I raised this as a warranty replacement but reply has been slow and not resolved yet. I then saw the new style valves which would give a much better display of temperature only to discover they are not compatible with the old system. You only buy a TADO system to save money on bills- it seems to me that it’s very unlikely you’ll ever break even given the high initial cost, poor reliability, battery replacement and obsolescence. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the system.
Edit: Thanks for your reply which sums your company up. You couldn’t care less that customers fork out hundreds of pounds which will take several years to recoup on energy bills only for you to introduce an entirely new system which is not backward compatible before the customer has made a fraction of the savings required on bills. How long before the old system is no longer available at all I wonder or stops being supported in the app? Rating revised downwards after your response.
