Company should be charged criminally...
Where to begin...
Despite the many company-purchased-looking 5-star reviews, we knew this was going to be a 1-star experience. We booked Supercheap Storage and Removals solely because they were the only company willing to pick up our contents from our inner-city street for our interstate move.
We took several precautions to prepare for what we expected to be terrible service. We booked months in advance and paid our deposit, which they promptly "lost". We had to dig through our transactions to provide proof of payment. They then sent us FIVE incorrect confirmation emails before finally getting all the details right. Leading up to our departure, we called multiple times to make sure everything was actually organised.
An interstate move is extremely stressful, and we booked our flights for the day after collection, assuming that, as a one-star company, they would be late, to say the least. If only we had been so lucky.
The day before collection, we received an SMS saying our pick-up date had changed. Immediately afterwards, we received another SMS saying the previous message was an error and our original pick-up date was going ahead. They gave us a six-hour window to be ready.
They called twice that morning to confirm collection was going ahead and told us to expect a call from the driver an hour before arrival.
At 5:30 pm, in the final hour of the collection window, we still hadn't heard anything. We called them, only to discover they had apparently decided to move our collection to the following day. We explained that this was not possible because our flights were booked for that day.
We demanded a refund of our deposit and were told it was non-refundable, despite the company being the one that had failed to honour the agreed collection date. We were left scrambling to change our flights and return the following day, travelling an hour each way from our BnB just to meet the removalists.
What was meant to be a flight to Melbourne to enjoy my birthday turned into a long dumpster-fire moving day. Their offer of $50 compensation for the "inconvenience" was insulting. We demanded $200.
Unfortunately, the collection delay was only the beginning.
After our possessions were collected, communication effectively ceased. A few weeks later, when we arrived and opened our storage unit, the results were appalling.
Our boxes were smashed beyond recognition, as if someone had run over them with a truck. Most of our belongings were damaged, items appeared to have been stepped on, and things had been hastily thrown back together and wrapped in cling film. My laptop had apparently been thrown around so violently that its screen was only pixels.
We reported the damage to Supercheap immediately, provided photographs, and advised them that we had CCTV evidence showing the condition of our belongings when they arrived at the storage facility.
Since then, they have ghosted us. Despite our attempts to resolve the matter, we have been given no meaningful response or clear opportunity to pursue the insurance coverage we were told we were entitled to. We are now seeking assistance through the relevant consumer affairs channels to try to get this resolved.
Supercheap has shown a blatant disregard not only for our belongings, but also for us as human beings. They wasted our time, caused unnecessary stress during an already difficult interstate move, damaged our possessions, and then stopped communicating when we needed them to take responsibility.
The blatant miscommunication, contradictory messages, broken commitments and shocking handling of our belongings made an already stressful time nearly unmanageable.
I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. Save yourself the money, time and heartache by going literally anywhere else.
