Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 24 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall with these products. Consumers frequently encounter major durability issues, such as tool bodies cracking under light pressure, blades going blunt immediately after first use, and hardware components failing completely after minimal wear. People also express deep frustration regarding incompatible battery designs, missing features, and replacement parts that simply do not match previous models. Some reviewers were satisfied with specific items, noting that certain tool kits and hedge trimmers perform very well during projects. Others appreciated the robust design, solid value, and long-lasting history of using these brand products over the years.

I’m really disappointed with this Stanley toolbox. The plastic feels cheap, and after only light, normal use it snapped like it was made to break. I wasn’t overloading it or abusing it—just carrying... See more

Sad to say this company has extremely…

Sad to say this company has extremely poor customer service. I wrote an actual letter to the Managing Director for Europe as I was unable to contact anyone online or their website. That was over 2 weeks ago and I've still heard nothing.
My gripe is that it seems once you have bought a tool (an air brad nailer in my case) and it breaks there is no customer support. In fact I have ended up buying an exact replacement direct from China for £50 less than I paid for the Stanley one and delivered to my door, The Stanley nail gun is also made in China.
I will not be purchasing any other Stanley products.

WARNING

WARNING! **DO NOT BUY STANLEY FATMAX 18V RANGE OF TOOLS**

After purchasing all the range I have been unable to purchase any 4amp batteries. These are no longer available. I have been promised on numerous occasions after contacting Stanley that the batteries would be available. Fourteen month’s later these Batteries are still not available leaving me with worthless units. Stanley were aware of the issue but have carried on selling bare units anyway.
There customer services are the poorest I have ever encountered in My life with there representatives in denial that these batteries are available ,I challenged them online and asked them to GOOGLE the item and it even came up with NO MATCH FOUND,the customer service operator promised to phone me back and never did, I contacted a consumer TV programme and explained what had happened and they told me that they were flooded with complaints from Stanley and building a case up against them in which will be aired sometime this spring,
DONT BUY THERE TOOLS ANYONE AND TELL EVERYONE HOW BAD THIS WELL ESTABLISHED COMPANY AS BECOME,
I will be putting a video on YOUTUBE very soon for all to see titled STANLEY CON,GIVE A WIDE BERTH,,,you will be able to listen to the misleading crap which there customer services spout on there loyal customers which have spent there money on worthless units

Moisture meter ref 077030

Moisture meter ref 077030. I bought this because it was described as having a green backlight (essential for my old eyes). The first one I bought, from Homebase, had no backlight, so I took it back as faulty. Homebase were very good: they offered me another, and tested it before I took it home. No backlight. The manual in the product did not mention a backlight, so they thought it did not have one - despite Stanley Tool's website explicitly saying that it did, both in the technical spec and in the online manual. Either this is a flagrant breach of Trades Descriptions or it is an appallingly unreliable product. I stopped short of asking Homebase to cut open all their stock, and received a refund. Net result: no meter; two wasted hours; 24 miles on the car. For NOTHING.

This brand has gone down hill

This brand has gone down hill
I bought the complete range of cordless power tools and I was pleased until I used the circular saw and jigsaw
Both had manufacturing defects stopping them from cutting properly, the circular saw especially is so bad it’s unusable!
I emailed Stanley asking what they were going to do about it as they are out of stock everywhere now and if I return it to where I bought it I’d only get a refund and I’d have to buy a different make and have multiple different tools with different batteries and chargers the reason I bought the complete range so I wouldn’t have this issue
My email was blatantly ignored and just goes to show what a disgusting company this is after all
I was hoping they would be decent enough to address my problem but instead showed their true colours
I’ll never buy Stanley again

When did Stanley tools get so bad

When did Stanley tools choose to sell bargain basement chinese rubbish instead of well made tools. I purchased a set of screwdivers and a chisel sharpening kit. The screwdrivers are so weak and poorly made you would think they come from a £1 shop. The chisel sharpener has come from some back street chinese bodge shop poorly made no idea what grit the sharpening stone is, so why would I put my chisels on there its way to rough. Well done Stanley another company with a good name and reputation bites the dust.

Crap screwdriver set

I bought a set of screwdrivers that looked the business, the easy grip handles felt right in your hand.
The first time I used the small standard driver, on a brass screw inside a 3 pin plug, it snapped across the blade.
I was shocked at this and tried calling Stanley, like many others on here, I had no luck getting through and they never returned calls or emails.
I have used Stanley for years and still have some of my grandfather's tools, but the crap that sell now !!!
These were made in France, maybe poor workmanship, cheap materials??
I wouldn't buy Stanley again

Unbelievably poor packaging

The packaging of this product is deplorable. I had to disassemble the whole knife in order to clear the cardboard from it. You really have to have a knowledge of tools in order to clear the packaging!! Unbelievably poor., and this is just a simple little Stanley knife. I was on the point of returning it.

Poor Quality and Terrible Customer Service

Not long ago I bought a professional grade shovel from Stanley. It didn’t take long to realize that it was not in fact professional grade it was no grade at all. When you put any pressure on the shovel it bends in half. I contacted Stanley twice and never heard a response. I don’t know when they became such a crummy company but I definitely would not recommend them.

When did Stanley get so bad????

I bought a pack of Stanley wooden drill bits. Very 1st use drilling a 1 inch pilot hole into ply wood only to have the thing snap like a twig.
Absolutely shocked I bothered to call Stanley tools customer service. Genuinely was told to buy competitors product if I wasn't happy with the quality of the product. No apology or refund. The customer service lad spoke to me as if I were a joke calling him to make a complaint.....how dare I!!!!
When did Stanley go from being the best around to this embarrassing low quality garbage service?
I will never use Stanley tools again and with this attitude it won't be long before they go bust in this economic climate

Poor Customer Service

I purchased a Stanley Fatmax Drill there was a free battery offer on so it seemed wise to get a free spare battery. But here we are 7 months on and even though I had been told I had fulfilled the claim criteria I have not received the battery. I have sent several emails to customer services but not had any response from them or reason for not sending the battery, it seems to have been a false marketing ploy to boost sales leading up to Christmas with no intention of giving out the free battery. I have sent several emails to the company but they have not responded to any of them, a very poor service and would not recommend anyone buying from this company.

Thinking of buying a Stanley SPS-1400-2 Brush…

Bought a Stanley SPS-1400-2 Brush Cutter in Bulgaria after constant disappointment with the flooded market of Chinese alternatives.

Felt quite lucky, as this was the last one in Praktika, Stara Zagora and was ready assembled.

Didn’t try it initially, as was busy on other jobs in my newly acquired home and my garden is 500sq.mtrs. ( small in comparison to others in the area ).
After a week or so I decided to give it a try, filled it with correct petrol/oil mix of 40/1 and hey presto! started first time.
Within five minutes the cutting head shaft was starting to rotate and the machine became uncontrollable. So after stopping the machine I thought I’d check the tightness of the Shaft Clamp Connector and found the spring loaded retaining clip to be broken!

Ok, so now my thoughts are guarantee and to where do I take it and god knows when I’ll get it back?

Being an ex engineer I decided to make a new replacement for the section that was broken on the clamp and secure it with screws.
Perfect! All worked fine.
So had the machine running three times in three days and managed to clear 3/4 of my garden and then the plastic spool disintegrated and the choke lever snapped off!

Due to lock down I had to wait a week or two before I could source an alternative.
In this instance, a sturdier looking Daewoo replacement looked favourite, so it was purchased.

However, after fitting it started to splutter and cut out, nothing to do with the new spool, I might add.

All in all, have had a maximum of four hours work out of this machine and have to say I wish to god I had bought a Daewoo Korean alternative.

This Brush Cutter was purchased solely on the upstanding back of Stanley Tool’s reputation for Quality.

stanleytools.com, if you read this report, you should thoroughly be ashamed of the poor quality of this machine and should definitely offer refunds.

The SPS-1400-2 Brush Cutter is an absolute disgrace and probably made with Chinese parts to keep costs low, regardless of your reputation being at stake!

Update : 22/05/2020
Managed to get it started today, but certainly needs a lot of coaxing. However, once running, it isn’t cutting out...... yet!

Stanley Tools AVOID!!!

I didn't realise that the spec for the replacement strimmer line on a Stanley strimmer/brushcutter was a matter of national security! I cannot find anywhere on Stanley instruction manuals, or their web site, or by trawling the internet. Stanley don't respond to my emails and parts companies only want to sell a whole replacement spool head. Even they do not know the length or thickness of the line!! It's a bit like Ford making a car and not telling anyone where to buy a tyre when it wears out, but, that you can buy a whole new wheel with a tyre on it!! Stanley you are appalling! I will never waste another penny on your products ever again!

Absolute $#!T

Absolute $#!T, buy metal trestles, because we all know the cheap plastic ones dont last 5 minutes, the metal ones have even crapper plastic leg braces. You spend £100 on a pair of trestles and a brace snaps, email them and they wont supply just the cheap removable plastic leg brace. They tell me to buy a complete new set!!!! Not a chance as that's the last bean you'll ever get out of me Stanley.
