Lack of follow-up and unresolved technical issues
We have sent a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to the management of SMA Solar Technology AG in Germany regarding the installation of a three-phase SMA inverter.
To date, the issues affecting the installation continue to occur regularly, without any lasting solution being provided.
We also regret the lack of follow-up from SMA Ibérica Tecnología Solar in Barcelona, whose support has proven insufficient in addressing the problems encountered.
Under these circumstances, it is difficult to recommend this company, both in terms of customer support and the handling of technical issues.
We nevertheless hope that appropriate action will be taken to resolve this situation definitively.

Two months to get the 5 + 5 years for the inverter
Two months to get the 5 + 5 years guarantee for the inverter because the commissioning date they had did not correspond to mine (inversion of month and day in Europe). You have to send a case. You have to be an IT to find and understand the answer of the case. I had to phone to ask where I could find the guarantee date. Absolutely not user friendly. Even on the phone they are very difficult to understand because they speak SMA language! I recommend FRONIUS instead.

My fourth inverter malfunctioned
My fourth inverter malfunctioned. My solar system was installed 12 years ago. Inverter number four, installed under warranty was replaced in 2022 and lasted only until September 2025. Apparently, SMA has a warranty policy which gives you 10 years only from the first inverter was installed. It is difficult to understand that SMA can get around their warranty this way. I will never again purchase any products related to SMA nor will I recommend anybody to purchase SMA products. SMA, if you stand by your product then you should offer a new warranty on each replacement.

No support service
Our installation team has been waiting for two weeks to have any assistance with a ticket logged with SMA to assist in removing a device from a plant.
I will be willing to update this review should the issue be resolved, but right now, we have been left with no service and locked out of our own equipment's functionality. The case number is 407488862

I'm very happy
I have a SMA PV system since the year 2020. First, I've installed one single inverter (Tripower 8.0). One year later, I've installed a second battery inverter (Sunny Island), a battery, the SMA's home manager control unit. After this, I've installed two EV Chargers which are controlled by the home manager device. I can charge the surplus of the PV power into my cars. This year, I've installed more panels with a Tripower X 12.
The whole systems works perfectly and had never an issue. I'm just happy and plan my next steps to build more PV panels :)

People working for SMA treats customers badly
I have had the opportunity to work with the SMA south african team for 6 years. We have extended warranty on our inverters. The technicians are great and always gets the job done.
The managing director however is the rudest person to get in contact with. His emails is always condescending talking with clients like they are children. Not very helpful and not very friendly especially since you are supposed to always treat your customer with respect. The guy can never give straight answers. Not very helpful service from them at all. Not likely to recommend SMA to any person since you get treated badly by the SMA team

SMA hybrid invertor - worst customer support
SMA, has one of the worst customer support.
I have a10kW Sunny Tripower Smart Energy Hybrid inverter. It has chaotic behavior, on PV generation. In sunny day, without clouds, it changes the pv generation between 0kW to 10kW, from second to second, with nothing to obstruct the PV panels.
It measures with approximately 3V more on the AC input, than any other multimeter( I have made AC measurement with 3 different multimeters, all have same readings) or even than the SMA Energy Meter. From this reason it enters verry often in Standby mode from over overvoltage event.
Every 2-4 weeks it changes by its own, the data logging from "on" to "off", without human intervention.
If there is an AC grid failure, sometimes the backup output is also shutoff - the main purpose of an hybrid inverter is to have power on the backup output in case of grid failure.
It changes the value measured for consumption from 0w to 5-6kW on the house from second to second, even if the load is constant of 500W. Should this be normal behavior?
The SMA Energy Meter... from time to time, you need to disconnect it from the grid, to reset it, because it measures the power consumption way off.
The site for technical support, does not work properly, it allows you to make tickets for support, but then you can not access the content or read the replays from SMA. Some times you get an email with the response, and so you can see the answer, but most of the time the answer is not accurate or not for the current topic, or they give you link to the manual.
Not professional at all in my opinion.
Not to mention that this invertor is 100% Chinese design from Sungrow, sold as German design and technology. I fill that I am being lied and taken as a fool by them.
SMA Home Manager 2.0 is not working properly with their new portal. In the old portal you can access more configurations like "Time window control for charging the battery-storage system", unfortunately this is also not working. I set the charge to be done between 12-13, and at 10AM the battery was already 100% charged...
To summarize, the system is not working properly and I have no solution from SMA.
I will never buy SMA again until they improve the customer support, and applications.
It is better not to have than to have something that is not working properly.

Less than impressive
I've had my solar array for less than 10 years. The SMA Sunny Boy Inverters have a 10 year warranty. As I said, it's less than 10 years old and I'm in the process of getting a 2nd inverter replaced in that amount of time. It's not much of a warranty if they don't actually replace the faulty parts. I've now been waiting a month for delivery of the new inverter. So for a month I've been only utilizing 1 of my 2 Inverters. So in the time of year where I should be making / storing power, I'm making half the power I should be because of these Inverters and a company that is dragging their feet getting a replacement sent out.

We have seen no benefits of the solar panels because their inverter keeps dropping the signal. When I call for help, I am given the option of "doing it myself" or pay them $200 to come out for 5 minutes worth of work. I regret ever buying solar.

Inverter SMA tripower smart energy
Inverter SMA tripower smart energy, nothing about it is smart. You can’t set peak shaving parameters locally, you need to do it from their webpage. More over, you can’t set the time when the battery shall be charged. You can’t set anything automatic or controlled through a external API, it’s like the SW is from 1970s. Now with peak energy charging (for all Euro in time) you have to stay awake do all setting manually when the “half-price” time comes. SMA will never survive the competition which are light years ahead. As already stated, the support is the worse I’ve ever experienced. Don’t buy a SMA product, anything else is better.
Edit after SMA reply: I do have a home manager 2.0 and It doesn’t work at all! Besides the new time tariff rules overrule the hourly price. That is, the hourly costs is low but the time tariff is very high, useless if you can’t control both. Nor do you offer a API to optimise your energy usage, you can’t even set a time to charge your batteries! A crap system!

They have the world's worst customer service. My installer had to come back at least three times to get the new inverter working. As the end customer I have had to register my extended warranty on more than three occassions. They don't answer simple questions and are rubbish.
