Be prepared for the upsell and for your project to be outsourced!
Purchased "3d Design Package - Back Yard" ($237) then upsold "30 Day Design Revisions" ($87) and "2D Satellite Design" ($77). During initial design consultation, I was informed I would need to ugprade to their "VIP 3D Design Package" due to the size of my back yard. Not only was this not clearly disclosed before purchase, but I was only asking for a small portion of the yard to be designed!
It became clear to me that ShrubHub was just looking for opportunities to upsell, so I asked for a full refund since I was within the 30 day window for that. They said someone would have to call me back and I've been getting the run around today via email and chat trying to get a manager approval for what should be a simple task.
Check the number of complaints at the Better Business Bureau -- do yourself a favor and steer clear of ShrubHub!
I came to find out that ShrubHub is just "a communications platform for enabling connections between Users and Designers". In other words, they are just outsourcing your project!

I would rate it lower if I could
I would rate it lower if I could. This service is horrible. I paid for a design and unlimited 30 day revisions. I had my design call, when I goy my design back a week later it was clear the designer did not listen to anything I said. I have been trying since then to reach my design consultant Dave, who responded to my email saying I had to use the portal to set up a new call. There is no place on the portal to do so. I finally found a customer service number and spoke to someone. That individual informed me that in order to speak to someone I needed to purchase another upgrade package. So how do I communicate my revision requests I asked. You need to use the chat feature. I tried that, it is unmanned. So I was told to leave a chat and Dave will get back to me. I asked when, I was told be assured he will respond. What if I am not on line when he chooses to respond, I inquired, well if you leave the chat for an extended period of time we will terminate the chat. This is absurd. I told the person on the phone to refund my money, again tell Dave that on the chat....So I am in a doom loop. I am going to charge back my credit card and start writing more reviews. I do not buy their glorious reviews and when i dug deeper I found many poor reviews. They seem to be a good reputation management firm, but customer service is absent. This is a case of technology being used in place of service. It doesn't work.
Great design and good choice of plants
Great design and good choice of plants. worth spending money. I will use their service for my next projects for sure.
I would give them zero if I could
I would give them zero if I could. They are terrible gave plants that would kill my dog. Horrible!!! DO NOT USE them! They absolutely suck!
Good experience for $500 or less
Good experience, very easy communication and process for getting a backyard design. I did get my first design but needed adjustments which I received after only a week or so. Second design was right on point with what I needed. Not all material is perfect in the design but it’s a good representation of what my backyard can look like. Now I can change material to meet my needs. Overall for $500 it’s worth the experience. I would pay more than that though. Nina was very nice and helpful with quick responses.

I got exactly what I was expecting- a great plan to use for our newly built house that does not have any landscape. Eve was great to work with and made sure all the items I requested were included. I am doing a few revisions- but they are very minor. A great experience!
I had an extremely disappointing…
I had an extremely disappointing experience with ShrubHub and feel compelled to share my story to help others avoid the same frustration. I initially purchased their landscape design services, spending a total of $1,458. Unfortunately, what I received was far from what was promised and utterly unusable.
### Ignored Instructions
From the beginning, I was clear about my requirements. I wanted a pergola placed in the center of the yard with a concrete pad underneath to accommodate a hot tub. I also specified that no excavation could take place due to the proximity of my house to neighboring properties—there simply wasn't room for machinery to pass through either side. Despite my explicit instructions, the design completely ignored these constraints. Even worse, the satellite imagery they used was outdated and inaccurate, failing to show the close proximity of neighboring houses, which is a crucial detail.
### Incomplete and Useless Plans
The plans provided were a mess. They lacked basic, essential details like measurements, wiring diagrams for light fixtures, and a proper irrigation plan that included the types of sprinkler heads. The 3D renderings didn't account for the fact that no excavation could take place and failed to consider existing structures like the air conditioning condenser unit on the back of the house, which cannot be moved. These glaring omissions mean that the plans are not just flawed—they are entirely unusable. No contractor could implement them, making the entire package a waste of money.
### Unfair Refund Policy
I reached out to ShrubHub within their 30-day refund policy, fully complying with their terms and conditions. Despite this, my request for a refund was unjustly refused. I asked for an RMA (Return Authorization) number, as required by their policy, but was denied without valid reasoning. Their refusal to honor their own money-back guarantee is not just frustrating—it’s unethical.
### Conclusion
In summary, I received absolutely no value from ShrubHub’s services. The designs were incomplete, ignored key constraints, and failed to meet even the most basic standards of usability. The company’s refusal to issue a refund, despite my compliance with their terms, has left me feeling cheated. I urge anyone considering their services to think twice. Based on my experience, ShrubHub is not a company that stands behind its work or its promises. I would not recommend them to anyone and will be taking further steps to recover my funds.
Awesome job!
Word of mouth travels fast because I heard of Shrubhub from my co-workers and we needed a do-over for our ugly yard we had the call with our designer I think her name was Ava she was very detail-orientated anything we asked of her she got done we got our final draft Thursday morning and I am extremely happy with the end result highly recommend these guys!
I had a very satisfactory experience…
I had a very satisfactory experience using ShrubHub. I uploaded the requested photos of my yard along with pictures of plants and trees I preferred. I also provided my ideas for the design itself showing the type of stone with grass checker board pattern I wanted and a center focus Japanese maple with water feature. All the items I stated were important were incorporated in the rendering and then they added additional suggestions that looked very attractive. I just wanted a good enough plan that a landscape installer could follow the design and create what I was looking and they did that. For the cost, it was money well spent.
Yard come to life...or not?
Two months and nothing actionable. I was really excited at the prospect of Shrubhub. The promise a professional design for $237...sounds great. But not for my size yard, and not with 3D design...or revisions, lighting, etc. Everything is al la cart. Understandable, pay for the services you need...a little misleading but ok. After they upsold me, I ended up at $700. Fine. I gave them a hand drawn design of what I had in mind (arial photo drawn with colored pencil). Photos and video of my yard as well as the blank overhead photo. I gave them inspiration photos and a list of must keep e.g., existing shed, peach tree, septic system, etc. Fortunately, I paid for revisions and when they missed these things, it wasn't too big of a deal. So I asked again...nothing really different....just put in the things I asked you to put in. Each time I wrote them, it took a week or so to get a reply. Their supply list included my existing landscape so it wasn't actionable. I'm not sure it was drawn to scale which also makes the representation less reliable...as does the fact that my yard continues past the area they identified with a wall. I liked the 3D rendering overall. If I could visualize nothing for myself and just needed someone to design me something, they may have been suitable. For someone who already has an idea what they want and just wants to see their vision come to life...meh...ok. Because revisions are useless if I can't get them to the point where they incorporate all of my initial vision, working with them seemed too cumbersome. I requested a refund for the extras...not the initial $300...that I considered the price of trying something new. Still nothing.
Shrubhub is everything as advertised
Shrubhub is everything as advertised! Absolutely the best investment I have made for design services by far. Saved me thousands of dollars in design fees. Every design suggestion I made was captured and I was able to make multiple design changes until the design was exactly what I wanted. No hassles. No issues. And the drawings are absolutely beautiful. The 3D stuff is amazing. When I shared my backyard design with family they were astonished. Can't wait to get it built.
Decent
For the price listed it was a fair experience I had Katty as my project manager she was professional and listened to my exact details that I wanted done for my backyard also her designers worked their magic on the 3D template my only criticism would be the small wait time aside from that everything was great!

I worked with Helen from Shrubhub and would recommend her work. She did incorporate all my inputs and I was very happy when she was able to work on some of the minor follow-ups that I had.
4 (and not 5) stars only for how SH packages aren't super transparent with the pricing upfront.
Disappointed
I was pretty disappointed in this process. While they did give me 2 revisions from the initial design, it just did not hit the mark. Scale seemed to be ignored, and when I finally got to the plant consultation, I mentioned I did not like any of the plants, but did want evergreens, but no juniper, the revision came back with replacing the pine trees with deciduous, and junipers with perennials. The exact thing I said I didn’t want, because my goal was winter interest. I could have bought a decent size tree for this consult. Now I feel I’m at square one.
Worth the price, make sure you understand the different packages
Be aware that they are really good at upselling! Still worth the money if you spend some time to understand what you are buying. The first version of the design was excellent, good ideas were incorporated and it was visually appealing. I went through 3 iterations to get what I needed but I knew the first try won't be perfect so I bought unlimited changes during 1 month.
Bad News
I left a review, but of course it was not published by Shub Hub. Their guarantee is NOT given. It took 41 days to receive a shrub that is deliverable in 7-10 days.
Highly recommend using ShrubHub
Our experience with Eve and her team from ShurbHub exceeded our expectations. We decided to pay for the 2D, 3D, and unlimited revisions to ensure we were able to meet our expectations and the requirements for contractors and HOA submissions. During our consultation call, we reviewed the uploaded videos and images and discussed how our family intends to use the space. She listened to our requests and provided recommendations and advice. The design process was quick and beautiful, beyond what we would have thought to create. The front yard has tremendous curb appeal, eventually adding value to the property. For the backyard, the team made several sitting spaces (including a space for our pizza oven) and an area for our kids to throw a football around and for dogs to play. I recommend working with ShurbHub if you need help with your yard design.
Shrubhub is awesome
Shrubhub is awesome! We worked with Sean to redesign our backyard space. I can’t believe how elegantly he fit everything we wanted into our space. Can’t wait to get started on our project! 100% recommend!
Thumbs up
Personally, I can’t say enough about Shrub Hub! Nina our project manager is outstanding in every way! Her professionalism, her communication, and her and her team’s creative genius has helped our project to manifest in ways we had not imagined!
Shrubhub was amazing
Shrubhub was amazing, just what I was looking for. I got a full backyard design for my pool done for $250. Everyone was asking for $1500 or more.
