This is the second time I have shipped…
This is the second time I have shipped personal effects from the UK to the USA with 1st Move International. In contrast to my previous experiences with larger well known companies 1st Move have been reliable with good communication and excellent, careful packaging, resulting in a safe and intact shipment. The companies 1st Move worked with on the US side were very helpful and responded promptly to my e mails. It was helpful to be able to track the container ship on a phone app after it left Tilbury Docks and reassuring to see my shipment packed up on pallets prior to loading. Our wall clock had its own specially made wooden box and suffered no damage.

After investigation we have found that there have been delays in transit due to the much publicised issues in the Red Sea, but your shipment has arrived at destination and is now waiting for Customs to clear and release your goods. We are in contact with the local agent and they will keep you update of the progress.
The pick up team were not great
The pick up team were not great, our clothes and possessions were packed in a rush and now we find our stuff messy upon opening.

I have looked into your shipment, and can only apologise that you have seen a delay in receiving your goods. Unfortunately, due to the much publicised issues in the Red Sea area, shipping schedules have been affected. After we received your payment and documentation, we released your shipment onto the next available sailing, which was due to depart 8 days afterwards. Your shipment departed on this vessel, but unfortunately the on-water transit time was affected.
Could you please send more details of the damaged items, as your POD does not show any damages and we have not seen an insurance claim? We can then investigate fully.
We will also contact the agent in New Zealand regarding the delay in their responding to you.
Great service, super friendly staff, though slight catch
3.5 Stars – Our international move went very well with 1st Move International, with much faster shipping than previous experiences, and friendly staff along the way. They packed our things (mostly) well. The only thing, which we didn't resolve until late in the process, was the service is by default a curbside delivery. To go from wrapped palettes on the street to items into our building (and debris removed), it cost us an additional 20% to what we were quoted.

Very good service and communication at a fair price. The only issue was that my 30 cardboard boxes were delivered to my apartment still packed together on their three wooden pallets, which caused problems with unpacking the boxes and with disposing/recycling of the pallets at my building. It would have been nice to have been given the option to have the boxes delivered loose so I would not have had to deal with that.

Great care and efficiency
Great care and efficiency, making our move simple.
Our goods arrived wrapped, intact, and in perfect condition.
Unfortunately the carrier at the other end (Malta) was nowhere near as efficient, and we were left waiting for hours for our delivery by a subcontracted driver.

Where to start… Book somewhere else
Where to start… They offer great customer service until they have packed your stuff and possess all the power over your stuff.
The guys who came to pack our stuff on the moving day wasn’t aware that we had booked them to pack the stuff. Even though we had it in writing from the company and confirmed it over the phone the day prior. It was pure luck that I had extra bags and boxes to pack the remaining stuff in, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to pack everything on that day.
We received a quote to pay £5K and they billed us more than double, £12K (!). They said it would take 2, maximum of 4 weeks, we received our stuff after 7 weeks. They deliver everything curb side, which essentially means they dump the stuff in front of your house and leave. The pallets they use are so massive that they won’t fit in an American standard sized lift.
I would not recommend them to anyone. It would have been a lot cheaper and quicker for us to rent an entire container with the additional services then to go with 1st move.
When I summarised our experience and chased an eta for our stuff, they didn’t even give one apologetic sentence.. Which just shows that they don’t care about the customer service one bit, once they have received their money. They also pretended to send us links to review them on Tripadvisor, however we never received the links. Which is a massive red flag and explains why Tripadvisor have 4.5 stars, while Yelp has 1 star and Google have 3.8 stars. Very dodgy!
The only positive part was that our stuff did arrive in a good condition which of course is a huge relief… But your belongings are better off with a different company, hence my one star.

We are glad to hear that your items arrived in good condition without any damages, this is due to our unique packing techniques.
In respect of your quotation of approximately £5k, this was based on the details given to us at the time. I note that a comment on the quotation states “at the moment I think we have the following that needs to be shipped”. This was based on 26 loose items and approximately 30 boxes. We collected 162 items in total, which included 60 boxes. This meant that your final packed shipment size increased and this is what increased your cost.
This also meant that the packing crew weren’t expecting to pack as many items, but were able to accommodate as you have shown in your review. All details were noted on the collection note including that you needed approximately 30 cartons of items for us to pack, I am not sure why the crew would have advised you they weren’t aware. This is very unusual and will be looked into immediately.
Regarding the transit time, after collecting your items, we had them packed within 3 working days, and received your final payment 3 working days after this. Your shipment was then released onto the next available sailing, which was another 5 working days. Unfortunately, as we have advised previously, the departure from the UK was delayed due to bad weather. Your shipment departed on the booked vessel, but unfortunately this was delayed.
Regarding your kerbside delivery. The exclusions were included on your quotation and advised at several points during the handling of your shipment. We do have a service that includes inside delivery but this was never requested. We did point this out when you emailed us when your shipment was arriving, but at this point we could not arrange this service with our 3rd party supplier in the USA unfortunately. The pallet sizes are necessitated by the size of the items that we need to pack, such as large mattresses. If we can accommodate smaller pallets we do so for ease of handling.
We assume that you have mentioned Tripadvisor in error, as we send review invitations for both TrustPilot and Google, and did so for your shipment also. The reason that TrustPilot did not send the link to your husband’s email address is that TrustPilot advised us he has already unsubscribed from their services, so they will not send any links. We invite customers to leave reviews so that we can improve our services where it is required.
I am sorry that you feel that our services did not meet the standard that you expected and that you would not recommend us, we will review your comments with the customer service team. Again, thank you for leaving your review, and we are glad that your shipment arrived in good condition, undamaged.

Highly professional operation. Quote, honesty, quality of people, delivery estimate - everything from initial contact to final delivery was top notch with no surprises. I was very pleased with how 1st move handled my international relocation from UK to USA. Highly recommended by me and will be my go to for any future relocation needs.

The team is exceptional.. i moved from London to the UAE which is quite specific in terms of rules and the team knew from the get go all the specificities and details required. UK to US with flying colors!
I shipped furniture and personal items from my parents house in Sheffield UK to Connecticut USA after they passed away so more sentimental than anything else. Included rocking chair, dresser, chest, glassware, old records etc.
Have to say I am thrilled with the outcome. I put 100% trust in them and they came through with flying colors. From day 1 getting a quote to receiving everything in one piece. I never met anyone, not even when they picked up in Sheffield, but I felt comfortable with them as they communicated well and were confident of their own process.
