Absolutely shocking care they gave to…

Absolutely shocking care they gave to my beloved mum! My mum was end of life, instead of letting her rest, playing peacefull music, wetting my mums lips( the type of care you should be given to a 87 year old lady with dementia, who could not eat or drink, as she had forgotten how to, mums mouth was full of ulcers, she could not walk, she had a catheter fitted, she was always asleep. Family were never informed with what care they were given to my mum. Our family realised later, they were trying to feed mum, and making amounts of food up saying she had eaten it, but we knew she had not, as she hadn’t eaten in the last 9 months properly, they weighed mum , why would you put someone through the stress of being hoisted in a sling, for what reason! She must of been petrified , and even that they got her weight wrong! They were also washing mum, when there was no need for this, as she was end of life, they just had to make my mums last days comfortable and leave her in peace to rest. I also found out when I requested all the notes from the care home, they had even gave my mum a bath! The holly bush care and home in Stourbridge, was so bad that I cannot put it into words! My beloved mum, sadly passed away the day after the bath! I cannot imagine what my mum went through the last week of her life in that terrible place! Our family visited every day and we had to look for staff to ask to see how my mum was, they would always be chatting away in the dining room, where there would be about 5 staff to one patient. This home was supposedly specialised in dementia! They had not got a clue! No care or compassion was shown to our dyeing mum. We received a phone call (after mum had been in there just over a week) to tell us to go to the home, we all rushed there, to be told in the foyer of the home in the doorway, that mum had passed away! I cannot explain how as a family we felt, knowing the diabolical care that was shown to our mum and the lies that were told and they never gave us any communication, about my mums health, unless we asked, which we always did, the staff would say “she’s fine” I complained to CQC. Nothing was done, and I had a meeting with the management about all my concerns, they could not disagree with me and just said the usual … lessons will be learned! And I never heard from them again. PLESE don’t send your loved ones there! They are incompetent, no communication with family, no empathy, no correct care given. They are totally clueless, how to support and care for people, especially people with dementia. Grieving for the loss of our beloved mum, and then realising, how they treated her, in her final days, has devastated our family🥲🥲

Not a good company

Shaw health care has unfortunately been the worst care company I have worked for and i have worked for many care companies. They base the staff ratio on the care minutes. So you have to document all the minutes for each resident and that's how much staff you are allocated, based on those minutes. Due to this, staff and residents are not getting the number of carers they require. You cannot base staff ratio on these minutes because it is not accurate. Carers don't use a stop watch timing the exact time it takes them on each resident and to expect them to is completely unrealistic. The care staff also don't physically have the time to be doing this level of documentation. The recruitment process was also agonising.
I was asked to provide SIX references at one point. Yes, six. You are also expected to complete a large book (care certificate) induction paper work etc which they don't pay you to do unless you complete in work time.. which again.. isn't realistic and most of it ends up having to be done at home, unpaid. Having a care certificate is not a legal requirement and is unnecessary in my opinion. They don't make you a better carer and I've never been expected to have one anywhere else. Care work is a minimum wage job, people already don't want to do this type of job because of the low wages. Stress, etc, so by doing too much like this company, people just think it's not worth it for what they pay. You also don't get paid for the crazy amount of online training you have to complete ..again.. unless you come into work on your day off. I am working for a different care company now. And I am happy to have things back to the way it should be. No stressful recruitment process, no care book to fill in. No staff ratio based on minutes. No constant text messages. That's another thing they do aswell, they send group texts throughout the day, everyday. On your days off.

Where do i start

Where do i start ? i worked for shaw in ledbury nursing home for almost 8 years, to start with i really enjoyed my job, then years later things just went from bad to worse
Agency staff seem to take precedence over there own staff, and are allowed to the only word i can use is bully full time staff, the absolute lack of professionalism by certain nurses is shocking and seems to be allowed by the manager, even after being reported numerous times.
Being told by no means if any units have covid we DO NOT cross units for ANY reason for the safety of all residents, when asked to cross units when covid was in the building and declining for the safety of residents, you find yourself up for and disciplinary, and end up with a final written warning, when you have never even had any sort of verbal or written warning ever, and told that "well covid is covid now" and to way up the situation, double standards come to mind, you try and do as asked because you think your doing right, but your wrong because it doesn't suit them. They need to decide if you can cross units or not it can’t be both ways, Where is there safety for the residents then, just where i ask ?
I grew to love some of the residence i cared for for so many years like my own, but unfortunately could no longer work for a company like this any longer, i've now been in my new job for a month and can honestly say the change in myself is amazing so so much happier, its not in care after going through what i have with shaw health care i think i can honestly say i wont work i care again, very bad form shaw, if i could give 0 stars i certainly would but not an option

Uncaring

Where do I start?
What can I say about a company who have lost 20 staff in as many months in this supported living facility alone.
As for the clients, making their lives easier and more cheerful is not in their remit.
For example.
Christmas and New year 2021 cancelled.
Easter 2021 cancelled.
Christmas and New year 2022 cancelled.
While the management were tucking in to their turkey dinner on both these occasions some of the poor clients were stuck in their flats with only microwave meals.
In a nutshell I feel the motto of this company should be, we don't care beyond care!

never would i ever work for shaw again

I worked as a cleaner throughout the pandemic at Deerwood lodge the place is full of favorism and bullying. my stress levels hit the roof one day so I walked away and felt better instantly. employed with a better company that cares for their staff.
2 hours after I left they advertised for my job of 33 hours.
I was so valued there I guess lol.
Too many people sitting in the staff room spreading conspiracy theories and false propaganda.
too many people snitching others up for rule break which they do themselves.
My work was never appreciated and was always hole picked while the lazy staff got all the praise.

avoid there at all costs

Lack of concern in breavement.

Firstly I must say I realise that life has been difficult for everyone and I applaud all those working in the care sector in particular. I have however had a horrifc experience. My mother died at Ledbury nursing home in July 6 weeks after I lost my husband suddenly to pancreatitis. The last time that I saw her or was given an opportunity to speak to her was at Christmas. I live 150 miles away from Ledbury. had tried on a number of occasions to get a call arranged with her. When my husband died in June I rang and asked for someone to arrange a video call. I was told that they didn't have time and that they only dealt with the next of kin and the phone was literally put down on me by the assistant manager. I rang again a week later to ask if they could screen my husbands funeral to my mother on July 8th - she had known him since he was 16. A lovely nurse said he would try and would put it in the diary. I have never heard if this did indeed happen. This has obviously been a distressing time for me my mothers grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was always difficult to get to speak to anyone often upto 4 forwarded calls in the building. I feel that I was fobbed off and that no care or sympathy was shown me or my mother. I don't think in the circustances that this was good enough.

Poor Resources

Evidence of poor resources for residents at Deerswood Lodge in the way of clean underwear when undertaking personal care, i.e. none available so being reused.
Hopefully just an oversight with bad stock management on this occasion
