A Utility change scam

During a recent visit to my home from SFE Energy, verbally identified as "Summitt Energy," they employed a tactic known as “slamming.” They misrepresented themselves as agents who needed access to my utility bill to verify what they claimed might be an incorrect gas rate. They suggested that, as the gas provider for PGE, they were the only entity who could adjust this rate. Their attempts to gain access to my information were persistent, even offering to assist me with the complicated PGE website.

It's crucial to **NOT SHARE** your utility bill information, particularly your account number.

avoid SFE Energy

SFE Energy dramatically increased my energy rate to nearly **three times the average market price without proper notification**. After I **canceled my contract**, they **continued charging my account anyway**.

This feels like extremely deceptive billing. Consumers should not be hit with massive price increases without clear notice, and charges should stop immediately once a contract is canceled.
Very disappointing experience. I strongly recommend others avoid SFE Energy and monitor their bills carefully

This company will cause you to lose service

SFE energy bought the contract I had with True Power. I was forced to re establish all of the auto payments and communication preferences.
Then I was notified that they intended to modify my contract with a new fee.
I notified them within the required days that I was not accepting the contract and wanted off their service. I had already arranged for a new provider. SFE processed my request as a move out which they didn't tell me they were going to do. So my alternate provider cancelled my application that was for a change and my power was disconndcted. Getting it reconnected required a move in request, which the new provider did. But that required a move in inspection and approval by the municipality before a move in order could be processed. I had to go to Oncor with a medical emergency request so my power would not be out for at least another day. SFE is to be avoided at all costs.

Beware of SFE Energy – Very Misleading and Pushy Tactics

I received a call from SFE Energy a female claiming they were working directly with National Grid and that they could “lock in my commercial electrical rate for 60 months.”

As the conversation went on, they started asking for personal information and then transferred me to another operator (Jay Reynolds, 833-363-1032) who became very pushy and insistent that I go on a recorded line to “confirm” the change to their company as my energy supplier, but never said they were an energy provider. I looked them up online when he gave me the company name. He kept repeating that it was “to protect me” and that I needed to provide my information and consent on the recorded line.

He did tell me there would be penalties for canceling early, even though I never requested their service. He continued to pressure me until I finally had to hang up to stop the harassment.

I know I can compare and choose energy suppliers myself directly online through legitimate channels. This company’s approach felt completely deceptive.

Bottom line: SFE Energy used misleading claims, high-pressure sales tactics, and false affiliations to try to get my personal and business information. I do not recommend doing business with them and am genuinely concerned that others might fall for this scam-like behavior.

This company is a scam! Don't choose SFE!

If I could give it a no star I would. My rate is a fixed rate for 3 years from 2023-2026. At least it's supposed to be. My rate has increased over the last couple of months, my FIXED rate! What is the point of signing a contract with a fixed rate, if it can be variable due to "this situation" or "that situation"? I was told the increase happened due to AI and electric vehicles. No, a fixed rate is a fixed rate. Unless it's SFE energy. This company is a scam!!

SFE lies!

SFE lied about conversations we had, lied about terms, and is now trying to collect on cancellation fees that we shouldn't owe. Stay FAR AWAY from this energy company!

Be cautious!

I had to shut down my business and move out of the facility in June of this year. Despite informing SFE Energy in advance and requesting that my services be terminated, they have continued to charge me every month since. I have called them multiple times but have not received any resolution. To make matters worse, I have just received another invoice from them. I advise others to be cautious when doing business with SFE Energy.

Complaint Regarding Misrepresentation and Overcharging by SFE Energy

I am writing to file a formal complaint against SFE Energy regarding their misrepresentation of service rates and unjustified charges that I have incurred as a customer.

On a day in April 2024, two representatives from SFE Energy visited my home and offered me an electricity rate of 9 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which was lower than the 11 cents per kWh rate I was paying with PPL Electric Utilities at the time. During our discussion, I explicitly asked if there were any additional charges or early termination fees associated with switching to SFE. The representatives assured me that there were no other charges whatsoever, and that there would be no early termination fee.

Based on these assurances, I agreed to switch my electricity supplier to SFE Energy. However, after receiving my bills for the last four months, I discovered the following discrepancies:

Rate Charged: Instead of the promised rate of 9 cents per kWh, SFE has been charging me 9.69 cents per kWh.

Customer Charge: In addition to the increased rate, SFE has imposed a monthly "customer charge" of $29.70, which was never disclosed during my conversation with their sales representatives. This charge has further increased my overall electricity costs, making my total payment higher than what I was paying with PPL.

Early Termination Fee: Upon realizing the discrepancies and the misrepresentation by SFE, I attempted to cancel my service. However, SFE is now charging me an early termination fee, despite their representatives explicitly stating that no such fee would apply.

I have spent two days trying to resolve these issues directly with SFE Energy, but they have refused to reimburse any of the overcharges or waive the early termination fee. This situation has caused me significant financial stress and frustration, as I feel that SFE Energy has engaged in deceptive and unfair business practices.

I wish to give them 0 or negative rating.

Bait and switch

Bait and switch, they lock you in to a two year rate that is higher than your current rate and then when you try to terminate the service, they charge you excessive termination fees.

SFE Energy Do not recommend it!

SFE Energy
A representative will lie and use the combined service and thermal rate and tell you that is your therm rate. PG&E charges me around .60 to.70 Cents per therm then they added on their service fees which ended up being around $2.40 she told me this was my therm rate which was an outright lie. Everybody still has to pay around $1.80 per therm for PG&E services. Plus SFE Energy is going to charge you a monthly service charge of $6.98 Their therm prices are $1.39 so I would be paying $3.19 per therm plus their Monthly service fees.
Hopefully, this will help somebody else remember you have 30 days from the day you sign up to cancel and their call center is hard to reach. If you try to counsel after 30 days they're going to charge you $7.50 per month times 12 months times five years which equals $450 for cancellation fee less if you have the plan longer based upon how many months you've used. This is in the contract that you are signing.
Good luck
