CAUTION: Sawabona Developers / Sawabona Alu & Glass
I’m sharing our experience to caution others and encourage clients to ensure everything is properly documented before starting work.
Sawabona Alu & Glass advised that they supply aluminium and glass products linked to Buco in Cape Town, and we were told we could order directly from them rather than through Buco.
The owner, Ebrahim D., was very charismatic, responsive, and helpful during the initial stages. The aluminium portion of the project went smoothly. However, problems arose when it came to the remaining construction work.
The scope of work and pricing were discussed and agreed verbally. Despite several requests, no written quotation or detailed cost breakdown was provided; hence, no tax invoices were issued. Yes, we as clients should not have proceeded beyond this point.
After approximately half the work was completed, the costs were suddenly increased to almost double what we understood had been verbally agreed. We were informed that no further work would continue unless the higher amount was paid.
This left us with an incomplete project. In addition, the work that had been done required significant corrections and finishing, which we had to arrange and pay for ourselves.
Our experience was extremely stressful and costly. Based on this, I strongly advise future clients to:
• Insist on written quotes and signed agreements
• Confirm all pricing and scope in writing
• Avoid relying on verbal agreements
Please proceed with caution and consider working with a well-established, reputable contractor.
