Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the products, frequently receiving items that were past their sell-by date, of poor quality, or missing from their orders. The customer service was also a significant point of contention, with people reporting unhelpful staff, difficulty communicating, and a general lack of interest in resolving issues. Reviewers often found the overall service to be inadequate, citing problems with order accuracy and a perceived lack of care from the company. Some people were dissatisfied with the staff, noting instances of rudeness, gossiping, and a lack of willingness to assist customers. However, some reviewers also mentioned positive interactions with staff members who were described as helpful, friendly, and efficient, particularly delivery drivers and specific in-store employees. Delivery service also received mixed feedback, with some experiencing issues like missed deliveries or damaged goods, while others had positive experiences with polite and helpful drivers.

I have posted this comment twice now…

I have posted this comment twice now once to Sainsbury's and another on Trustpiolt  but none have had the decency to contact me in any way.
It seems Sainsbury's could not care a toss about the welfare of its customers or the problems the customer has. Pity Sainsbury's you really do did to copy what Amazon Customer Service are doing as they seem far more successful than you.
Sainsburys Apsley Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire food order.
My Sainsbury's food delivery arrived on time and the driver was helpful and polite so no problems there.
I always order my beer with the shopping but this time while handling the bottles several bottles seemed have small bits of broken glass stuck to them, five small cuts that bled and a few skin cuts they were not that deep or bled.
If you have breakages you need to wash all the bottles down clearing any glass chippings away so they will not stick to other bottles and reduce the chances of the customer getting hurt.
I have not contacted your customer service as it's based abroad and they will not deal with this sort of problem or have a manager who can take action.

Still waiting on my delivery over 24 hours late

Still waiting on my delivery, 24 hours later. Called sainsbury 6 times. I am a carer for my partner, so unable to go out. Ran out of food today. Still no call back from Sainsbury's. Said it should be delivered later, but not sure it will be. Its a disgrace. Call centre just calls the store. Can't get an answer, can't even complain. Offered me £20 voucher!! I just want my grocery delivery. They have taken the money and not delivered the food. Its a disgrace

Poor Gammon joint

We were away and went Sainsbueys in Morecombe, to buy a Gammon joint for Easter Sunday. The gammon joint has just fallen apart when the supporting string was taken off. I was unable to slice a reasonable slice and have had to serve it as bits of gammon. The joint as a whole appears to have been several pieces all held together by the string and sold as a joint. I've have been better elsewhere and paying alot less!

Went to Sainsbury’s local

Went to Sainsbury’s local, they had many items piled up in a trolley, I asked if they were reduced items for customers to buy? I was told that they were items going into the dustbin, I asked if I could buy them on reduced prices, I was told NO! They were going out of sale by date, and must be thrown away! I was shocked that Sainsbury’s staff preferred to throw them edible food items away, instead of letting struggling shoppers to buy them. Sainsbury’s management staff, have a rethink, help the struggling customers.

As I used to work for them and had…

As I used to work for them and had shares I expected a decent service. I ordered a decent amount of goods ready for Christmas. On the day my order wasn’t delivered. When I enquired why I was told there was nobody in to accept the order, I have a Ring doorbell and just so happened to be sitting in the window writing Christmas cards. To me I think there’s someone telling porkies here. I got through to the Hub and was told I would have my order delivered next day. I was sent an email saying my order had been cancelled on that morning. I have received no apology and no explanation as to why that driver decided he couldn’t be bothered. I now shop at Tesco.

Awful customer service

I went earlier to the store at the O2 Centre Finchley Road.
In general the on the floor staff were very helpful...
But I then needed to pay and wanted to go to a manned check out till as I needed some help.
There was only one working - but it had already put up a closed sign - so wasn't usable after the customer who was being served.
I asked another member of staff if they would be opening another one: no came the rather surly reply. So I went to the self check out section where I was greeted by a very miserable lady and several tills that weren't working,
Sainsburys - it was 5.45pm - people shopping after work - on their way home - having collected kids from school / after school activities etc
Dreadful customer service!
I was going to ask for the manager - but then I thought - if you can't be bothered - why should I.

I did a online shop at Sainsburys Stockton. The grapes were bad and sell by date was the delivery date.

On line shopping used to come from…

On line shopping used to come from Enfield warehouse now they've opened one in Essex somewhere and ever since I get hardly anything on my list I get substitutes for 3 times the amount I ordered originally.
I've stopped using sainsburys now for good they've had 6 months to get it right and yet every single order isn't right leading to booking another delivery to get what I need at more delivery costs.
Nah I ain't no mug I only eat grass fed meat now and bovaer free dairy. Supermarkets now in China and food quality is at its lowest let alone portion sizes.
I mistook my kitchen roll for toilet roll the other day as even that is getting smaller.
Fix up Supermarkets and support farmers and meat free from S#![

Delivery Person: I cant deliver, sorry ... Me: What? Why is that my problem?

Very very disappointed in Sainsbury's! My delivery was supposed to arrive at 19:30 to 20:30 and at 19:00 the driver called me saying something happend and they can't deliver today! So why is that my problem? Sainsbury's should have a Plan B! Have extra delivery trucks as resrve for incidents like this! and they don't even provide an alternative!! All they do is 'gracefully' refund, as if they are offering me something in compensation for their negligence and unprofessionalism! When I insisted, all they did was a £5 gift card as if that covers anyof my time and energy that has gone to waste!

After scanning my nectar card the…nectar scam

After scanning my nectar card the reductions were not on the receipt. Yes I had unlocked them ! The discount from store items were also not implemented. Yet it add the points for a spend, which clearly shows I had scanned the card. As I was at the self scan I called across the assistant who told me to go to the customer service. Totally useless. The manager then appears. Totally useless. Told me I had to go home and wait 48 hours before going online and claiming back. Pathetic I simply returned all the shopping and left to visit a better supermarket

althought most of the groceries are good quality, be careful when you make orders online. Some of the substitutes are not suitable and although it says you will get a credit, it doesn't say when. Also difficult to get hold of anyone

Humiliated

I have been going to the Hamilton in Scotland for over 20 years and been a very loyal customer. The staff have generally been pretty good, today I have been left humiliated, utterly confused and very angry. I was stopped upon spending £250 at the store today to be confronted by, I can only assume was a 'manager' and another staff member. They said because I had asked for help packing my bags in the past and that this was something they didn't do, I was told i wasn't to come back to the store. He explained I'd apparently made 'disparaging' remarks to some staff members? I asked exactly what i was meant to have said but he said he didn't know but it had 'upset' the staff members in question and they felt victimised!. I feel completely victimised! I know for a fact I have never made disparaging, rude or otherwise remarks to anyone in that store other than say 'Marks & Spencers always offer to help pack when a customer has a large shop'. This must qualify as 'disparaging'. I'm beyond disgusted, sickened and extremely angry. Why are they listening to a couple of aggrieved staff members when I easily spend over £1000 in that store and couldn't tell me why these people are so 'offended'? There is clearly something wrong if certain staff are that easily offended and 'victimised' over that. I have seen customers swear, shout and become quite aggressive yet I've never conducted myself in this manner. Has anyone had this from Sainsburys before? How in sanity can anyone treat a decent person like this? I'll raise this with the Retail Ombudsman and possibly go public with this as I feel seriously and unjustly treated. There is something very wrong here.

Meat is halal slaughtered but not labelled as such!

Went into my local Sainsbury’s and asked the store manager if their meat/chicken was religiously slaughtered and no labelling to say otherwise! I was told categorically NO! i do not eat meat from animals who have been barbarically slaughtered without full non reversible stun! I took photos of the abattoir codes in the store and when home found out that 3/4 came from halal registered slaughter houses! It’s distrusting and disturbing that store managers have no idea what they are selling! I will never shop there again! I rang the customer services who just gave a flat line answer of all animals are pre-stunned. They would NOT answer my question that I posed 3 times -is this non recoverable stun! Speaks volumes. Boycott and shop with a local butcher!

Not customer focused

Three checkouts located as far as possible (within the checkout area) from the doors to the car park.
Only one check out attended.
Three people in front of me and, by the time I reached the checkout the queue had expanded to approx eight persons.
No other check outs opened.
I will not use self service because if I had wanted to work in retail I would not have spent six years studying to be an engineer.
Sainsburys policy would appear to be Nuts To The Paying Customer. They can wait, serve themselves or go elsewhere.
I chose the last.

Going Downhill

Spend around £6500 a year in Sainsburys, but not for much longer, you cant do a weeks shop as most items go out of date after 2-3 days, and you also have to hunt around the car park to find a trolley. They know how to charge but not how to give good service.

Am not going there again!

Five people from the Red Cross were standing in the exit of sainsburys at the Wyvern in Derby. They tried to make me listen as a collective into giving them money for people in other Countries! I told them that our own people need help, people are living in the street. The security guard moved towards me! Am not going there again if sainsburys keep alowing this!

Terrible/Awful on-line Grocery Shopping

I have to do my grocery shopping on-line as I'm disabled and unable to get to the shop.
This has been awful. Every week theirs items missing, not in stock or the alternatives are ridiculous. Given up phoning them, customer service very unhelpful.
I think a gesture of goodwill is in order

Sainsburys has no Christmas spirit for employees

Just found out staff in a Sainsburys store in Pembrokeshire were required to work a full day to get Christmas Day off! They had to take it as holiday basically. What kind of corporation doesn’t give their hard working staff one day off at Christmas? Loyalty should not be expected from staff or customers if this is the lack of care shown to employees. Shameful.
