The stellar reputation of this establishment certainly precedes it, though the hospitality seems to operate on a strict two-tiered system.
While the food was undeniably good, the service offered a theatrical performance worth watching. The tall waitress put on an absolute masterclass of warmth for the regulars—beaming smiles, lively charm, and perpetual tea refills. Yet the moment she turned toward our table, the acting vanished, leaving us entirely invisible alongside the gentleman in the suit who proved equally adept at staring straight through us.
To take our order, refill our teapot, or perform the monumental task of bringing the bill, we had to recruit three separate staff members—an impressive feat given there were only four tables occupied in the entire room.
Perhaps the restaurant should officially transition into a members-only club so first-time guests aren't left paying for the privilege of being ignored.
It appears this establishment’s elegance stops at its decor, leaving its hospitality far behind.

Awful service with an "unremovable" service charge. Even though it's listed as "discretionary", they won't let you leave unless you pay it, which is illegal.

Food is overpriced and mediocre.

The food was okay. Service was rubbish. All the staff were arrogant, cold, unattentive. We will not go back.

Anaphylaxis - BEWARE

I have enjoyed the food at Royal China for many years but recently, I had a terrifying experience. My husband is fatally allergic to nuts so I am extremely careful when ordering take away food. Most places are aware that items like peanuts/sesame/shellfish can present very serious allergic reactions so they do the responsible thing and make sure to mention it in the description of the dish. Indeed, there are plenty of dishes on the menu at Royal China that contain nuts in the headline.

We ordered the Peking Duck, which struck us a 'safe' bet. No mention of nuts and it's clearly meat, pancakes + sauce. Unfortunately, after a very small bite, my husband started to experience an anaphylactic reaction to what must have been peanuts in the dish somewhere. I as a chef could not detect it but it was 100% certain that there were nuts in the preparation of this dish. The ambulance saved his life, thankfully.

The issues I have with Royal China are the following:

1- lack of transparency on the menu about what items contain severe allergic ingredients like peanuts

2- lack of responsibility from the staff at Royal China who read the Uber Eats ticket which stipulated SEVERE NUT ALLERGY and failed to take any notice

3- In spite of having written a respectful and detailed email to info email on their website, I have yet to hear back from them a week later.

Given how dangerous this situation was, I am astonished at the appalling lack of responsibility and service that they've dispayed. I've been a patron at the Fulham branch for over 20 years but I will never set foot in this establishment again. Their menus are not to be trusted. I hope that this review will warn anyone who suffers from allergens away from eating there as they clearly take a very lax attitude when it comes to this issue. After Natasha's Law, this level of nonchalence in the face of possibly fatal repercussions is unforgivable.

Food was good, speed of delivery to table was good, prices a little expensive but portions were large and so no complaint. The thing that spoiled it were the waitresses. There were two in the restaurant and most of the time they had their backs to the diners and were chatting between themselves continuously. I had to shout across the restaurant more than once just to get their attention. I had to ask one of the same waitresses twice for the bill. So...sorry...but service is important to me. I won't be returning in a hurry. It's a shame as the restaurant in all other dimensions was quite good.

Fairly high prices, but the tofu is probably the best I've ever had!

RACIST Waitress.
I called Royal China Canary Wharf to order some food and then went to pick it up.
When I arrived there the Racist Waitress took one look at me and asked what number I was picking up (numbers are assigned to deliveroo etc workers picking up food for order, A name is assigned if you order yourself by phone and pick up yourself).....because I am brown she thought I was a food delivery worker. After the manageress came and asked my name which got me my order finally. How RACIST can you get. I have told all my friends in the bank I work in at Canary Wharf so word should get around.
AVOID THESE RACIST/PREJUDICE PEOPLE.
Food also way over priced and quality falling. Better in Chinatown.
