Where it all started. Rough Trade was founded by Geoff Travis in 1976 as a London record shop and began releasing as an independent label in 1978. In 1982, the retail outlet broke with the A&R and distribution divisions and became an independent entity, as it remains today. In 1982 Rough Trade West relocated from its original site on Kensington Park Road to nearby Talbot Road. Rough Trade Neal’s Yard opened in 1988 and closed its doors in 2007, ahead of the opening of a new flagship store, Rough Trade East, which opened in 2007 in Brick Lane. Rough Trade NYC opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2013 and relocated to Rockefeller Center, Manhattan in 2021. Rough Trade Nottingham opened in 2014. Rough Trade Bristol opened in 2017. We host live shows, sell records, merchandise, hardware, beer and coffee. Come say hello!

I love Rough Trade
I love Rough Trade. Always promoting amazing musical experiences, and never disappoint.
The two Warpaint albums I have just received are a perfect illustration. Heard one track by Warpaint, brought two albums. Both are outstanding!
Selection from Rough Trade is outstanding. Delivery and packaging are 10/10. Simply a joy to do business with. Thank you so much. You're amazing 🫡

Where's my vinyl!
record didn't arrive until a week after release date, don't know if it was record company fault or rough trade.Rough trade did email me once to say it would be late arrived in A1 condition think i deserve free postage next time!!!
Great selection of CDs and speedy shipping outweighs pre-order delays and slow service
Great selection of CDs and often some excellent deals. I managed to pick up a few albums at reduced prices, and the free shipping promotion was a nice bonus. My recent order arrived safely and was well packaged.
I also like that Rough Trade stocks both major releases and smaller independent artists, giving music fans plenty of choice.
The only downside has been a very long delay on a separate preorder, with release dates and estimates being pushed back multiple times. Customer updates have been helpful, but the wait has been frustrating. Release and dispatch estimates feel unreliable, which makes it more difficult to know when to expect certain pre-orders.
But overall, a great store for music fans with a wide range of releases, though preorder delays can still be an issue. Would still recommend, though!
Also, I do not think that the delay is their fault, as they have not received stock. Do not let this deter you from their store as it is still great! My recent order arrived in a matter of days.

Rough Trade East
Mainly using the Rough Trade East in Shoreditch, a superb store for your vinyl collection, and also an amazing little venue where upcoming and established artists will perform.
Customer service is top tier and the staff really have a passion.
Order was Canceled after months of waiting
After months of waiting on a record, I received an email stating it would be delayed. After about a month from that email, I was told my order was canceled "because we did not have enough stock to fulfill your order." How is a reputable business unable to keep accurate stock of inventory to sell more than they have? This is especially bad for consumers where vinyl collecting is on the rise again and it's not uncommon for other records to sell out across other providers thus leaving the seller to scope out the third party market with significantly increased prices. A realization of inventory/supply issues early in the process would have been fine. Instead, I missed a second wave of a record pressing because I was under the mistaken belief a record, I had paid for, was on the way. Careless at absolute best and would not recommend to anyone.
Excellent from start to finish
