We came on a Friday evening to use a…

We came on a Friday evening to use a £20 for £40 voucher. We got there for our 7.30pm booking and there was just 1 other couple downstairs (who came at the same time as us ) We were told that there were no starters available, and no fish of the day available, which my friend was going to have as she was on a Slimming World Plan , so she was disappointed. I had 3 small plates , there wasn't a lot of choice and I had sweet potato fries, small potato croquettes and risotto. My friend chose the butternut squash and feta (?) tartlet ...it took an age to come (bearing in mind we were the only people eating ) , mine was ok, nothing to write home about as you can't go wrong with those items, but all my friend got was literally small chunks of butternut squash and cheese in a small bowl (nothing holding it together ) with small wafer thin pieces of filo pastry on top, with 3 pieces of broccoli on the side ...costing £16.50 !!! We had that , along with 1 cocktail, 1 glass of wine and 2 Hawkstone lagers (which was the best bit) and the total cost was £65 !! (Thank goodness for the voucher so cost for us was £45)
The staff are nice and friendly, there was a quiz happening upstairs from 8pm where about 20 people were sitting but when we left at 9pm no one entered the restaurant after us.
Looking at their Instagram page , they are trying too many ideas at the same time ..they need to decide what they want to be, and if serving food, more choices need to be available. Unsure whether we'd go again.

We were greeted on a Friday evening to…

We were greeted on a Friday evening to less than half a menu. On their website, Rhubarb claims to have a main menu and a small plates menu. We were only offered the small plates menu in which half of the dishes were out of stock. I ordered garlic prawns, cheese garlic bread and a fish cake. Needless to say the quality of the food was very poor. There was 0 seasoning on the prawns and tasted like they were thrown into the garlic sauce at the last minute. The cheese garlic bread could have simply been purchased at the Lidl down the road. Not what you’d expect for dishes ranging from £6-8. Despite roughly 4 tables in this evening, and only serving low quality small plates we waited 45 minutes for our food.
This is a new business trying to find its feet in Chesterfield but this experience was unacceptable for the pricing. I think Rhubarb should re-think their business model and potentially focus on brunch/bottomless brunch/cafe. They would firstly need a well trained chef to continue in the high-end restaurant trade.
