Regenexx insurance is a scam
I had this covered with our insurance. I made the appointment for my back. The exam was good and they really talked up the pain relief from the stem cell procedure. Then when they found out I had the Regenexx insurance they said I couldn't have stem cell and needed to do therapy and steroid shots first. Eight painful therapy visits and shots later and no relief. My employer insurance wants me to go back to Regenexx but I'm done with the shots. Can't truat them if they already made me do things that didn't work just because insurance said that's what to do. The only Regenexx doctor near me was also an hour drive so I bad to take time off to go there. It's been almost a year now and still in pain saving up to go to the surgeon. The surgeon is at the hospital clinic in town. They keeps pushing the Regenexx and Kris is saying their orthopedics policy with Regenexx insurance means I can't see the surgeon and get it covered until I try it first. Makes me wonder what they're getting out of this. More than me I bet. Scam.
be careful
just be careful. unproven, experimental, not FDA approved, and very weird dealing with the company in my experience.
Do not deal with this outfit
Do not deal with this outfit! They only care about money. I put a generous down payment on a procedure and had to back out due to another more serious medical issue and I asked for my deposit back because I needed that money to pay for my medial issue and even though it states in their contract that they would refund if you have another medical issue, they would not refund my money. Also, they over billed me for the office visits and the 5 minute shockwave treatment! DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM. There are many other places that do this type of treatment!!
L3-5 injury with ruptured L5
Saw Dr Moova with L3-5 injury the surgeon was recommending fusion surgery on. Was crawling to the bathroom in excruciating pain! After stem cell procedure and platelet injection was @ 70% improved. Went back for second platelet infusion after 6 weeks and within 3 weeks the pain was essentially 100% gone!
Highly recommend!!!!
Bad business practice- charged me over…
Bad business practice- charged me over $200 for returning THEIR call to ask a question! Ridiculous- and completely MISTRUST a system that charges ridiculous fees for a question.
I had the procedure done in 2022 and…
I had the procedure done in 2022 and was told Medicare won't pay for it, I had to. Kept being told that just keep waiting, will work and she gave me three shots to aid my pain while it was supposed to kick in. Then she said my money takes care of everything, and goes ahead and bills my medicare for my shots. Two Doctors told me to my face it doesn't work, it's a gimmick. My daughter works in court proceedings, and said all I see filed is lawsuits about this procedure not working, not to do it. I did, they said it takes time, but it never did a thing. If you're considering having this done, DO NOT have it done, go about it with surgery and a pain doctor that helps with pain shots, but do not have their procedure done !
Check the Costs
Just make sure you check the cost. I got a spine procedure done in Dallas for $1300 while that same exact procedure in Pittsburgh was $4500.
No personal experience
No personal experience, but as a medical doctor who's had his own share of sports-related injuries (I guess you could call it arthritis, but I don't, yet), I've been interested in early reports in the use of platelet rich plasma for tendinitis and knee arthritis. HOWEVER no good quality study has ever proven it works.
If regenexx goes beyong PRP to actual stem cells this might be different, but I'd wait to see the evidence. Knee arthritis is a common condition and therefore an intervention like this is relatively easy to study in a randomised controlled fashion.
Caveat Emptor
1. I have done same day stem cell injections (twice) plus multiple rounds of PRP in my knees (torn ACLs, meniscus). It worked great. (This was not a Regenexx related facility.) Still skied and played tennis.
2. Due to concern about declining number of stems cell available via the same day procedure, I decided to try Regenexx Cayman cultured stem cell procedure.
3. Everything was professionally done. Cost for phase 1 was $10,500.
4. After cells were cultured, I was advised everything was good, so I booked hotel, air fare, etc to return for re-injection.
5. Ten days prior to my departure, I was advised that only 5 million stem cells were available and that I needed 30 million for the number of injections I needed on both knees. The doctor therefore did not want to proceed.
6. Stem cells were not counted prior to culturing so there was no way to know if I had any expansion. There was no known probability of whether another $10,500 bone marrow aspiration/culture would result in more than 5 million stem cells.
7. I therefore was left with no good way forward and was out $10,500 plus money spent on plane tickets.
8. The low rating is due to the lack of transparency/ expecatation management. When the count was known 4 months prior, I should have been contacted and advised of the issue. Moreover, one would think Regenexx would have an idea of whether a 30 million count is common, particularly for my age range.
9. The bottom line is I can’t recommend Regenexx Cayman due to either a lack of knowledge of metrics for stem cell counts and more importantly a failure to relay likelihood of one having the number of stem cells needed after culturing. If 5 million per round of culture is the likely outcome, I would have to pay over $60K and then the $12,500 for injections.
10. Maybe that is something some people will pay, but I decided to cut my losses and walk away. I wish FDA would approve cultured stem cells in the U.S. as I believe there would be greater rigor applied to the process. For now, caveat emptor.
I received Regenexx procedure in…
I received Regenexx procedure in Pittsburgh PA. R.a.p.s. facility best 7k I have ever spent period.
I drove from wealthy DC suburbs in Northern Virginia. A decade with Kaiser Permanente system where the care was profit driven based didn't fix the issues suffering increasingly from post surgery rehab injury of 2nd total knee reconstruction feeding lines it's arthritis writing opoid prescriptions for years. Within 6 months of procedure in April 2017 tremendous amount of relief giving me some of my physical life back after suffering for decade. I am so glad I risked it. It had drastically improved my life. Just eat properly stay active and find a competent Dr.
Dr Pitts is the guy to see
Dr Pitts is the guy to see. Knowledgeable, funny, great experience.
I am getting PRolo and Prp for my ankle and back and I’ve felt so much better.
Great alternative to surgery
Maybe a scam
Maybe in the future
Was treated in October 2021 with stem cell therapy procedure after 1.5 years of left hip osteoarthritis pain. Since sport is my job, I tried everything and nothing helped, so that I could handle less and less mentally and physically. eventually ended up at regenexx Belgium, after evaluation mri scan I turned out to be a suitable candidate for stem cell therapy. The team and doctor janusazz were friendly and caring before and during procedure. No improvement after six months, even worse after MRI. The team stopped shortly after my treatment and the doctor left for Switzerland, we were not told this beforehand. I think this is anything but correct, collect 7500 € for zero result and then don't even make any effort to follow up, except that you could always make a video call. this feels like money making to me and not ethically correct. If they claim to be so good that they ask for 3/4 of the amount as an advance and that you only have to pay the last part if it works.

The Regenexx® treatments are worth…
The Regenexx® treatments are worth every penny. I wish insurers would see the value of this non-surgical option. The Regenexx doctors I worked with in Las Vegas, NV were very honest about expected outcomes...due to years of sports injuries, 2 spinal areas are pretty much 'toast' & are not good candidates for stem cell treatment but they were treatable with platelets. I got a year of relief from a treatment that took 1/2 a day of non-surgical in-office treatment... It works for me.
Does NOT work for advanced degenerative joint damage
In April 2021 I had a video consult with Dr. Leiber about Regenexx procedures to the right hip joint which had given me problems for 10 years. He did inform me that the hip joint is the most difficult to treat with these procedures, but nevertheless went ahead and recommended stem cell, plasma and fat cell injections after receiving a current MRI of the hip.
NOTHING helped even a little bit!
I feel that after looking at the MRI and realizing that this hip is experiencing moderate to severe degeneration, he should have made the decision that Regenexx procedures will not reverse or even ameliorate the condition. I feel making money was a priority in this case.
A year later (last month) I had a total hip replacement and feel 100% better now.
I would give a 0 if I could
I would give a 0 if I could. I had stem cell therapy on my right ankle. After a year, the benefits have been negligible. What really has me ticked is in sept I received an email from the Sarasota office that I should consider receiving a “booster shot”. The email stated it would cost $900. I agreed to try it and was told it would be covered under my insurance. Got EOB in March and Regenexx billed my insurance for over $2500. My insurance paid over $2k for a procedure I was told would cost $900. I now have to pay out of pocket $500 when I was expecting $180. The booster was a complete waste.
Rotator Cuff tear - Success
Issue:
Torn Rotator Cuff, frozen shoulder. MRI and ultrasound confirmed.
Baseline
Unable to lift arm more than 80 deg from floor in front of me. Unable raise arm to side high enough to put on deodorant.
Pain down side of bicep area into top of shoulder. 8 on a 10 point scale at all times. Could not lift more than 2 lbs, could not extend arm out. Waking up at night due to pain of rolling over on it.
Elapsed duration since treatment
6 Weeks
PT: 4 Weeks 2X week
Results:
I am 80% or more recovered at this point. I can raise arm within 3 inches of my "good" arm on a wall. I can raise arm over my head with mostly full range of motion. I can reach 2/3 of the way behind my back compared to good side. I am in the process of moving and have been lifting and carrying boxes of more than 40 lbs.
No longer have pain in bicep area. Residual pain in shoulder from tight tendons and muscles from frozen shoulder. Doing daily stretching to help with that. (It sucks but do it!) Take Tylenol one a week a most for moderate discomfort when I over do it. Use heat at night for 30 min to help loosen it up.
If I went surgical route I would still be in a sling and not have started rehab yet. After 5 knee surgeries I did not want to get cut again. I had great doubts going in and was very skeptical but took the risk to avoid getting cut. So glad I did.
Expensive yes.
Worth it? YES.
PRP costs at Regenerexx vs your orthepedic surgeon
So this is less about Regenexx than the whole PRP procedure. These clinics charge outrageous sums of money. I paid over 6000 for shoulder and hip injections. The hip injection was so painful that I passed out on the table. Didn't work at all, but what really gets me pissed off is that the Doctor told me that I just had bursitis in my hip which later was diagnosed with severe arthritis and subsequently had a hip replacement which worked out great. Later I went to a normal shoulder doctor told him my experience with PRP and how much I paid...he said in his office and he is part of my network, it would have been more around 4-600 for the PRP injections.
Expensive, painful and 100% ineffective
I would absolutely NOT recommend it!!!! If I could turn back time, I totally would. This procedure on my lower back and SI joint was very expensive ($6,500.00) and 100% ineffective. The so called minimally invasive procedure flared up my back pain to the point where I have been in the most severe pain I have ever been since the surgery. I am 6 month post and I have worse problems performing ADLs and in general living my life.
I also believe that I have not received proper local anesthesia as the pain was so unbearable, the middle of the procedure I had to ask to stop it, started crying on a procedure table and was not sure if I would be able to go through the rest of it. Absolutely the worst experience in my life. Stay away.
Pain increased and I became worse
I went to a very nice doctor in Southern California. Following the regenerexx procedure which was grueling . The injections were for pain and arthritis in my cervical spine and facet joints and there were lots of them. Following the procedure I felt worse and was told that this was expected and it should subside in a few weeks. I never recovered and actually became worse. My blood pressure dropped during the injection process and I believe it was also traumatic to my body. I have ended up being unable to work so I had negative improvement from these injections. I would be very careful about use of these injections especially in the spine
