terrible customer service if using the ticket portal use facebook instead

my partners and myself have made music that was used on the Emirates FA Cup for 3 years, this was broadcast across the world on countless stations and we have recieved barely anything , so much so that we have constantly complained to them, they have ignored us countless times , i have raised countless support tickets with them for them to be closed and no money coming in , , we have now gone to the ombudsman about this , and we are not getting too far with this either, the prs blame the media compnay , but i have been speaking directly with the media company who have said all information has been given to them, this has now been going on for 3 years (since we made the track!)
(I have amended this )
PRS agent Kyle came back to me regarding me not seeing this months payment , he resolved this quickly and efficintly and sorted ti so i would not get this issue again. We are still with the ombudsman regarding the amoutn we are owed and we have had some money in this week but its not the full amounts we are owed and im yet to hear antything back from PRS regarding the missing payments, i understand they are busy and our case is complex. Maybe if the tickets raised were dealt with as quickly as the face book posts PRS would get better scores on Trustpilot. Big shout to kyle though he was brilliant , i wish i could deal with him every time

My experience with PRS has been awful

My experience with PRS has been awful. I sent a signed letter to leave because the customer service has been so slow/frustrating that I want to move to another collection society. Cases have remained unanswered and left open for months at a time. Staff have contacted me via email about leaving and then not replied for weeks on end, have not given me a leaving date and generally just ignored my request. I have emailed to leave feedback but have heard nothing back yet.

I have been waiting for a response regarding case number 01052784 for days, despite submitting my signed petition for a very simple request. Although I have repeatedly communicated the urgency through both the system and email, no one has assisted or responded. There are rare moments when we expect service for the fees we pay; it is unacceptable that we are left waiting instead of receiving the prompt support we need.

Yet another 1 Star Review.

It is no wonder PRS/PPL has such a high number of 1 Star Reviews
My experience was extremely frustrating and unnecessarily prolonged.

I personally contacted PPL PRS in good faith to understand the current licensing requirements for a fitness studio, Instead of receiving clear guidance, I was issued with an invoice without agreement or warning which I later had to dispute after being hounded by aggressive Debt Collectors appointed by PRS without any prior communication.

Throughout the process:
   •   Communication was inconsistent and often unclear
   •   I was passed between multiple advisers
   •   My account was escalated to collections while remaining unresolved
   •   I was repeatedly directed to out of date website links instead of being given direct answers
Even at the final stage, I had to request multiple times for a simple breakdown of how charges were calculated, which was not clearly provided.

While the final invoice was reduced significantly to reflect actual usage, this only happened after persistent challenge and considerable effort and patience on my part.

This process should have been straightforward but was made far more difficult by Customer Experience Staff than was necessary.

Businesses should take care to fully understand their position before agreeing to or accepting any licence, and consider royalty-free alternatives which there are many where appropriate.

Overall, a disappointing, frustrating and unacceptable customer experience.
Updated the response to contact feedback at PRS, I have spent three months emailing about this, so can I suggest you talk to them and get copies of all my emails rather than me contacting you as I have spent more than enough time with this. I intend to go to the top of your company to raise a complaint.

Update,
after the recent post referring to another company as they are part of your group and you are the parent company I have to say you are probably tarred with the same brush.. and if you are the parent company surely alarm bells must ring when there are so many 1 star reviews.

Final Demand for Overdue Payment to avoid Legal Action

I got a license for a one off music event I was holding; which I paid in full. PRS then kept sending me invoicing to renew from a "No Reply" email.

Now they are threatening legal action.

I had to call up and have this rectified. Customer service agent admitted that it was their fault and auto-renew should not have been clicked by them.

Although situation was resolved, it was incredibly frustrating and took time out of my day. It should not be a "no reply" email address.

Should be used by all serious musicians

PRS makes it easy to claim live and streaming royalties for my music. The royalties I’ve received have more than paid for the lifetime membership, and it’s important that musicians who take their career seriously should be signed up for this.

My one negative is the website can feel a bit archaic to use, especially when searching for songs when reporting a live gig.

But other than this it’s a good service that helps to top up my earnings!

PRS-What a waste of time and money

What a waste of time and money! They instantly charged £100 for a membership application on the 26th of January and after numerous emails still no reply. All they’ve said how extremely busy they have been and no help, no refund.
I can’t understand how an unprofessional business model like this is trusted with royalties or payments that’s very frustrating

Terrible way to support your members

I submitted a Writer Query on October 9th, nearly 4 months ago. I needed help with an issue I have, it is serious, I need support, I have written, I have called, I have been apologised to, with assurances it should have been dealt with by now, I had promises the case with be escalated and there has been absolutely zilch other than wasting my time on further phone calls, automated queues and the same repeated conversations. Absolutely sick of it. I have been a member for a long time and when I ask for some help I get nothing. If you are not able to attend to the needs of your members then sorry but you are not fit for purpose as a business. I don't know who is running this show, but whoever it is isn't doing it right, and it's probably the staff answering the phones that get the brunt of peoples frustrations. Need t question those at the top of this one, because to me this is no way to represent all the people that pay your wages. Absolutely let down, this is UK music industry here. Absolutely terrible.

My name is Joao. I’m very disappointed with my experience with PRS for Music so far.
After almost two weeks since my registration on website. I have received no response at all. I’ve sent two emails and tried calling multiple times, only to be disconnected automatically after waiting on the line for around 10 minutes.

I understand that organisations can be busy, but being completely ignored as a new member is frustrating and discouraging. For a body that represents and supports music creators, the lack of basic communication is extremely disappointing.

I hope this is not the standard level of support, because first impressions matter — especially for independent artists trying to do things properly.

An horrific experience

I closed my account with these guys back in August 2022 after experiencing some awful bullying and victimisation tactics in trying to get my refund back after Covid. 3 years on & they have just sent me a new invoice for £600, for the 4 years of usage during the time since, when I had a message back from them confirming that the account was closed in August 2022. I work alone & don't have any music, radio or anything since it died back in 2022. Nor would I even bother because the whole nightmare left me with such a bitter taste that I don't even play a radio at home any more. I'm now trying to work out why they've decided to reopen my account and backtrack 4 years but they're saying they aren't receiving any of my forwarded emails from that time & are clearly trying to get out of it once again. I'm now forced to go to the Ombudsman & further to get them off my back again. I'm an elderly disabled business owner, with no staff & no wish to play music in my shop as it's a distraction when keeping my eye on the other thieves I get. I never wanted a licence in the first place but was bullied & threatened by them to take one up because it was the law. I managed to cancel it over Covid because I actually had time to give the relevant notice before it 'rolled over' again. I've now already spent 3 hours of my precious time today on this, & no doubt plenty more to get this sorted. Absolute bullies and scammers. The lowest of the low.

Opaque organisation

Pretty unpleasant ruthless organisation to deal with and not a government agency. We could never understand how the monies we paid across actually got to the relevant artists as it was simply impossible to log every single track being played by for example a visiting DJ, a band that were improvising, a remix? Many of them were remixes or by artists that were long since deceased so presumably out of copyright. Do they only pay out to artists that have joined their organisation?. It all seems a bit murky and non-transparent and not sure how it got set up or gave them the authority to demand monies as its not a goverment organisation. A much fairer system would surely be to just to levy a tax on tracks played on Spotify or similar? We've since found a source for Royalty Free music.

Hi J.Newton

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback. We’re sorry our role is not clear, it should not feel opaque. PRS is a not-for-profit membership body, and we’ve been around since 1914.

We collect and pay royalties to members when their music is broadcast, downloaded, streamed, or performed live. We use a mix of methods such as direct reporting, technology, data analogy, and research to verify which members to pay.

We publish a transparency report every year which you may find interesting: https://www.prsformusic.com/about-us/track-record

What is up with PRS

What is up with PRS? Used to be very helpful, now no response to messages – is there anybody there?
We're a band trying to register gigs played but, the system can’t find one of our venues – despite finding it earlier. Tried over several days. No reply to queries - very peculiar.

I originally posted this on the 28th of August - response received on the 3rd December - makes my point I think!

The website is confusing and crashes quite often. Every time you open a case, it never seems to get resolved. I keep having to open new cases, but if the first one was properly resolved, I wouldn't have to. The staff are polite if you speak to them on the phone, but as I said, things are never sorted out. Cases are closed when the issue is not sorted. There is a help section, but it does not provide enough detail.

As a recording artist I paid over £100 to protect my artistic rights.
The website is a bug ridden joke that is always crashing.
The terms on it aren’t very clear for registering new works.
I tried using the help/ support section to deal with an issue and I got an automated response saying the issue was solved, it wasn’t but I gave up.
Even the pop up feedback box crashed halfway through.
As soon as there is a credible alternative I will happily try them out and hopefully leave this mess of an organisation.

So PRS are a scam, right?

Been waiting a year for royalty payments. Phoned multiple times, always get fobbed off with excuses. Then when you call again, you just start from scratch again.

Does anybody receive royalty payments for the work they do, or is it all just one big scam.

Charge the venue for membership. Charge your members to register their songs & then keep hold of royalties.

There needs to be an investigation into your operation. If you're in the same boat, report them! Or they'll just carry on shilling poor musicians out of their hard earned cash.

Dear Erik Pollitt

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback. We’re sorry our service did not meet your needs.

We pay out royalties for registered works throughout the year. We do a monthly distribution for online streaming and the major live concert service. We do a main distributions for everything else in April, July, October, and December.

To receive a royalty payment, members must meet the distribution threshold. For UK bank account holders, it’s £30, if you bank outside the UK, it’s £60. Every October, we reduce the threshold to £1 if you bank in the UK.

More information is on our website: www.prsformusic.com/royalties
