EXCELLENT SERVICE FROM EVERYONE AT PMW

EXCELLENT SERVICE FROM EVERYONE AT PMW. I took my car here after struggling to get it fixed elsewhere. Other places either quoted me ridiculous prices or didn’t seem to know what the issue was, but the team here were the complete opposite- professional ,helpful and genuinely knowledgeable.

I was really stressed by the time I arrived after being let down and scammed by other places, but they took the time to listen, got the car looked at straight away and had it sorted efficiently. The whole team were excellent from start to finish and I honestly can’t recommend them highly enough! I wouldn’t go anywhere else now.
Thank you so much Guys !!!!

Awful company.

We took our Mini Countryman to PMW for a turbo replacement, Daniel told me it was an engine out job and I asked him to give the car a thorough check. He rang to say that there was a glow plug module fault and that we should replace it and the plugs, I agreed to the extra work.
I asked Daniel if we should replace the timing chain while the engine was out. He told me that it was absolutely not necessary as the timing chains “almost never” fail on these engines and if there was an issue we would hear a rattle. I asked him if he was sure about this as I was happy to pay for a new chain rather than risk it but he insisted it was not necessary.
The work was completed and we paid the bill of £3,312.84.
Six months later the car broke down and had to be recovered, the mobile mechanic told me that the timing chain had failed. He said this was a common problem with N47 engines and he was very surprised that PMW hadn’t suggested replacing the chain whilst replacing the turbo. Since the turbo was under warranty we had the car taken to PMW and I asked Daniel to find out what damage had been done by the failed chain. I looked into the issue and found that the N47 engine is notorious for chain failure. So much so that there are multiple companies that solely rebuild that engine. There are dozens of articles about it and in fact, if you Google N47 engine it suggests timing chain issues immediately.
PMW rang me to say that they had spent an hour investigating and the chain that had failed. I reminded them that I already knew this and I wanted to know what damage had been done. They told me that this would cost another two hours of labour. They then rang to tell me that they had made a mistake and would charge me for two hours instead of three.
The next day Daniel called to say that the chain had failed and damaged the top part of the engine and that in his experience, this always resulted in the bottom part of the engine being wrecked. He also told me that to fix this it would cost “anywhere from £6,500 to £10,000”.
I reminded him that he had told me explicitly not to replace the chain. He became very defensive and argued that it almost never happened and that he had been “trying to save me money”.
He also said that replacing the turbo didn’t involve removing the engine, completely contradicting what he had quoted me for originally.
He was rude, arrogant and talked over the top of me, dismissing my point that the N47 engine was prone to these problems as “something you found on the internet”.
I asked him to get the rocker cover put back on to which he replied that he’d have to charge me before laughing about it and saying that it was a joke. He rang me the next day and told me that he had rung around and spoken to three garages between Chelmsford and Colchester that specialised in repairing N47 timing chain failures and the average price was about £4,500. As I pointed out, if it’s such a rare occurrence, how did he find these companies so easily and why was their price so much less than he had quoted me? He couldn’t explain that.
We paid the bill of £216.00 and booked the car in with a proper workshop. PMW made our recovery driver wait for around 40 minutes for the key, and I had to ring and tell them to stop wasting the driver’s time.
We had the engine rebuilt with a full 2 year warranty for £3,200. The workshop were brilliant and as they had predicted, there was no damage to the bottom of the engine.
PMW’s bad advice cost us well over £4500 in rebuilding the engine, recovery and car rental, not to mention all the stress and inconvenience. Not only did they give bad advice, they profited from it.
I take no pleasure in leaving a negative review; I believe that it’s far better to let a company try to put things right or at the very least, apologise when they should have done better.
PMW are without doubt, the worst company I have ever dealt with and it’s very clear that despite their claims of expertise; when things go wrong they refuse to take any responsibility. I would advise anyone reading this to avoid PMW at all costs.

Dear Marius,

We have already covered this off with you over the phone multiple times and on the Google ‘review’ you kindly left last week.
You have chosen to leave this ‘review’ clearly with a view to do as much damage to the reputation of PMW Ltd as possible!?

Your ‘review’ is misleading and does not state the facts accurately.

You were not quoted to remove the engine in order to replace the turbo.
No part/element of the turbo replacement involves the timing chain.

We did not tell you the chains ‘almost never’ fail as you keep insisting. We know BMW chains do fail on occasion but not at the frequency you seem to think!?
I must also correct you; I cannot remember a timing chain failure causing bottom end damage in recent years, it is very unusual. Daniel most certainly would not have told you ‘this always resulted in the bottom part of the engine being wrecked’ as you claim. It simply is not true or a fair representation of our first hand experience.

PMW are sorry your chain failed six months or so after the turbo etc etc but in fairness you were given accurate and reliable advice at this point when you were already spending some £3300.
You were also briefed/advised what to be aware of if the chain were on its way out and the only time we saw the vehicle after turbo replacement was when it came back with a broken chain some six months + later.

I can certainly understand your frustration with the situation but it is unreasonable to retrospectively claim PMW should have advised you to spend a very large amount of money on an unrelated item that displayed no signs of requiring replacement at the time of turbo failure and on a car that was new to you.
We have the expertise, tools and equipment to do the job you claim we dismissed as not required…….. It would be financially in our best interest to simply do the job and take more money from you but we didn’t because there was no justification for that additional work at the time of turbo failure.
Would you seriously have invested £5 or £6K in total at this point based on a whim/google search!?
As I have already explained: Mini suffer from many other inherent problems. Would it be fair for us to speculate this on each and every car we see with a view to upselling work that most probably isn’t required?

You can see we are on a double edged sword: we are damned if we do, damned if we don’t.
Customers would quickly and rightfully think PMW are selling stuff they didn’t ask for or know about if we followed your lead.

Conversely, if we pass judgement while assessing each and every job on an individual basis, selling customers parts, services and repairs they actually need, we do run the risk of the odd job suffering a totally unrelated and/or unforeseen failure. It is the hazard of mechanical engineering…….. The joy of owning a motor vehicle.

I am truly sorry for the situation you found yourself in but it really wasn’t the doing/fault of PMW Ltd.

Yours Sincerely
Peter Mould

Professional, reliable and got me out of a difficult situation

I was recommended to use PMW by a work colleague after being quoted a ridiculous amount of money elsewhere to fix my poorly car. PMW are helpful and knowledgeable, giving me various options to fix my vehicle, even offering to repair my broken part instead of replacing it. I was kept constantly up to date with the progress, completing the repair on the estimated day. The repair cost a fraction of the prices I was quoted elsewhere. Very happy.

Dear Robert
I have just checked our workshop booking and invoicing platform. No one with the Surname ‘Vince’ has been booked in or invoiced for any works with us for over two years.
I suspect you have left a review against the wrong company………. We are PMW Ltd in Chelmsford, Essex. We have no other branches or affiliation with any other businesses.
Please either edit this review accordingly or remove it.
Thank you

Really shows what a nonsense these review sites are.
Disappointing when we @ PMW Ltd. work so hard as a business to provide exceptional customer support and service.

First time I have used PMW

First time I have used PMW, absolutely fantastic service they went above and beyond to fix my car, took my Z4 in with a passenger door that would not open from the inside or outside, after a few hours I got a call saying they would have to cut the door card out, I disappointedly agreed and paid the very expensive cost of a door card so they could order it, got a call the next day saying the technician spent some time on it and managed to get it off, they did not need to go to that length as I had already paid for it so thank you very much and you now have a new customer, I will 100% be using PMW for all my servicing and repair needs in the future

Professional, courteous, and trustworthy.

I had serious problems with my Mercedes ML250 - inlet manifold, oil cooler, recirculation value, all needed replacing. Not an inexpensive job. However, despite the financial pain (which was no doubt less than a main dealer ) the service was first class.

There was a quick and accurate diagnosis of the problem and a swift booking to do the work. The conversation about the work and price was straightforward and empathetic. The updates were regular.

A very professional team , courteous , trustworthy, and very personable. I would certainly recommend giving PMW a try.

Professional, trustworthy experts for my BMW

I was suffering with dreaded roof issues on my BMW Z4. After several trips to the dealership without any joy in fixing, I turned to PMW for help. From first contact I was so impressed by their professionalism, understanding of the product and simple, straight forward approach. Within a few hours of dropping my vehicle off, I was contacted to discuss what they had found and what the vehicle needed. The following day I received a call to confirm that the vehicle was completed and ready for collection. Everything about PMW screams professional and clearly the team there takes a huge amount of pride in what they do. Special thanks to Daniel and Steve for the exceptional service they offered from start to finish. From now on, PMW will be my only choice.

BMW M sport 325d with bad oil leak

BMW M sport 325d with bad oil leak took it in for diagnostics. A bit more than just s rocker cover gasket as I’d thought, oh no £££, but good call as it transpired, during replacement of the inlet manifold a broken swirl flap was extracted a millimetre from being swallowed by a valve. My contact with PMW, was with Daniel who was excellent with updates, prices and before and after images of the damage.
With great customer services, competitive labour charges and a professional repair what’s not to like.

Came over some issues with my 2000 bmw e46 328. Daniel was exceptional. Responded to my query within next to no time (despite it being late in the day), got my car in next day, fault sorted and car back to myself. This is how the industry should be, couldn't thank you enough

Awesome company

I took my 5 series in due to some fumes getting into the cabin, they did some trouble shooting and found 2 glow plugs not functioning properly resulting in soot deposits building up and periodically clearing, creating the fumes smell. Seemingly unrelated, is the engine had for years idled with odd fluctuations in RPM, the BMW dealership I used to use could not find a the cause. PMW resolved this by replacing the glow plugs and the car has never run better. Couldn't recommend these guys enough, very impressed. Reasonably priced work too.
