⭐ Disappointing Stay

⭐ Disappointing Stay – Not Suitable for Elderly Guests or Pet Owners

We recently stayed at Pettycur Bay Holiday Park and were deeply disappointed by the experience. What was meant to be a peaceful break for my elderly parents turned into a stressful and frustrating weekend.

The caravan was extremely small — so cramped that my mother had to turn sideways to get past the bed. It was uncomfortable, impractical, and unsafe for someone of her age. There was also no outdoor seating or balcony, which was very disappointing, especially when one of the draws of the park was the location and views.

On arrival, we discovered rubbish behind the sofa cushions, including dirty tissues and crisp packets, raising serious concerns about cleanliness and hygiene standards.

The lack of a basic electric kettle was surprising, and it felt like we were placed in sub-standard accommodation simply because we had a dog with us. If dogs are welcomed, guests shouldn’t be penalised with inferior facilities.

Even more frustrating was the rule that dogs are not allowed in the outdoor bar area. This made it difficult to enjoy the park’s amenities as a family, and again felt at odds with the park’s claim to be dog-friendly.

The final straw came when we woke up on Saturday morning to no hot water. Although we reported it straight away, nobody came for over an hour, and we ended up cutting our weekend short and leaving after just one night.

Despite explaining all of this to the park, we were refused a partial refund, which felt extremely unfair given the number of issues we faced.

This stay was upsetting for our whole family and far from the relaxing experience we had planned. I cannot recommend Pettycur Bay, particularly for those travelling with elderly relatives or pets.

🚨 1-Star Review

🚨 1-Star Review – The Worst £200/Night Experience – Avoid at All Costs 🚨

I travel for a living, and I can confidently say this is the most unprofessional, overpriced, and poorly managed hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

👎 Staff Attitude – Aggressive, Unhelpful & Completely Unfit for Hospitality

The management, including "Suzie," treated us with outright hostility, refused to provide basic information, and when I asked for written confirmation of an issue, they threatened to call the police instead of acting professionally. Let that sink in – a hotel that can’t even justify its own policies resorts to threats.

💰 Daylight Robbery – Overpriced & Below Basic Standards

£200 per night for a room that was clean but barely maintained.

£120 for dinner with NO starters or desserts.

Compare that to earlier the same day: we ate at the DoubleTree Hilton for £130, and the difference in quality was night and day.

💡 If you're paying high-end prices, you expect high-end service. What we got instead was budget-level food, weak drinks, and a staff attitude that would be embarrassing in a rundown pub.

🛏️ Rooms – Clean, but Falling Apart

For £200 a night, you’d expect comfort and quality. Instead:

Basic cleanliness but poor maintenance.

Tired facilities that clearly haven’t been updated in years.

No care or attention to guest experience.

🏖️ The Only Good Thing? The View – Wasted on This Place

This hotel could be something special, with its amazing location and stunning views. But instead, it's a joke of a business, running purely as a money-making exercise, with no regard for guest experience.

🚨 Final Verdict – AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS 🚨

Rude, aggressive staff.

Ridiculous pricing that doesn't match the service.

A management team that treats guests like an inconvenience.

👎 STAY ANYWHERE ELSE. There are plenty of hotels nearby that will actually appreciate your business instead of treating you like a problem.

This needs to be seen by EVERYONE – if you value your money, don’t waste it here. 🔥

Really disappointed

We went to use the pool with our 7mo baby, the pool itself was clean and the staff at the pool were friendly, however, not ideal for changing as there was only 1 family changing room so had to wait for a while before and after swimming.

Really disappointed in the staff at the restaurant, asked for boiling water so that we could make up a bottle of milk for our baby, we were abruptly told that she should not be at the bar with us as she was underage, thankfully my partner was holding her because what if I was there myself, would I have to give her to a stranger so I could get some hot water?! It’s crazy to me, I was under the impression that children could be in the bar area accompanied with an adult but a 7mo is a bit over the top? It is daunting enough to go out in public with a young baby and I have never felt so unwelcome.

The staff were also very rude when they served us and the food was cold and really a waste of money

I never usually write reviews, let alone a bad one but I definitely will not be back.

HORRIFIC

Booked stay at hotel nights of Fri 13th/Sat 14th Aug 21, £227. night. Booking made via Booking.com 25th Mar 21. Trip Advisor review 1 wk ahead, review around Wedding parties and noise issues. Called to check if there was a wedding party on the dates of our stay, informed no wedding planned. Checked in, wedding party in process. Requested room away from function room, not possible. Room hadn’t been vacuumed in months. Hairs in bed, food on floor, bathroom dirty. 7pm DJ started shouting, thumping music throughout hotel. Ended 1am. Weddings guests outside drinking, swearing, shouting, smashing glass till 2am, outside our window. Our two boys 8 and 9 years terrified by noise outside didn’t get to sleep until 3am. 10pm went to reception to cancel my second night. Horrific experience - £227/night. Website pics misleading. Hotel shouldn’t sell rooms to other guests when they know they have a wedding, then lie when you ring up to check. Should be making guests aware there is a function and likely to be noise. Could then make decision to book. Informed we should have received email asking if we were in the wedding party. Didn’t receive this. Lots of other guests didn’t receive this as many at reception complaining. Requested refund at checkout, receptionist refused to give manager contact details, had to go through reception. No manager during stay, reception staff unsupported. 2 wks to get a response from manager after emailing reception which said it had been forwarded onto manager.

Pettycur Bay Holiday Park deception.

Pettycur Bay Holiday Park deception.
Do not waste your money with this company. They obtain your booking by deception, are rude when questioned and think they are above the law.
They lure you in with photos of a 5* Executive caravan with the statement 'Book THIS caravan' but the reality is that you won't actually get THIS caravan.
In the small print they claim the photos represent one of the caravans on their site, bur refuse to back that up with proof. Does it really exist????
I have since read other scathing reviews about this site and would never recommend this to anybody.

Only gave 2 stars cos food was good (not great) and same for the service. Here's a copy of the email of complaint my mother sent to the management of the restaurant after a very uncomfortable experience just over a week ago. Emailed it on Monday and other than an automated email acknowledging receipt and promising prompt reply, such reply was unforthcoming, never mind an apology. The food was acceptable and all but one of the servers was pleasant, but the handling of this was very bad. Apart from not informing us, they didn't even offer transport along the road to a cash machine ... there were 7 of us there for an annual celebration so no one with a car.

"Dear Sir/Madam

On Friday 18th, my husband and l had a table booked for seven of us for a family celebration at your restaurant. This is a rare occasion, we usually only get together once a year as my husband's sister and her husband live on the south coast. We were so looking forward to having a slap up meal and great company with a beautiful outlook over Pettycur, the view being the main reason we chose your restaurant.

I was shocked and dismayed to find out on arrival, by means of a notice at the restaurant entrance, that, due to 'network' problems, there were no facilities for credit/debit card payments AND found out from the staff that the cash machine you have on the premises was inoperable having been broken into a week ago. I asked if anyone had tried to call me to let me know, since the table had been booked by myself some days before, and was told that someone from your restaurant tried to call an hour earlier but obtained no reply. There were several of us in the house since late afternoon and no one heard the landline ringing. When I got home, I doubled checked to see if a call may have been missed but there was no voicemail. NO one had called.

I have to say that I was personally MORTIFIED, because it was my intention to pay for this meal as a treat for everyone and as it turned out, we all had to cobble together enough cash to pay for it, VERY embarrassing!

It was a lovely meal, we did manage to have a good night and most of the staff were very pleasant and somewhat apologetic, but I did feel towards the end of the meal that there may have been some worry we may not have been able to pay the bill which was presented to us, somewhat SMARTLY at the end of the meal, putting a bit of a damper on the evening. As it turned out, a few of our company had cash, being on holiday, and we did manage to come up with amount for the bill of just over £300 PLUS a substantial tip for the staff.

In any case, we DID pay the bill in full but I'm writing to say that an organisation such as yours should have a back up in place for such eventualities. I'm sure we were not the only people disappointed by the fact that neither card payment nor cash withdrawal facilities were available. You have a large holiday park as well as daily visitors, and must have missed out on a lot of business. I'm sure you are aware that there are small, inexpensive card readers using the mobile network that small businesses use. Surely you could have had something like that as a back up, as I appreciate you may not be responsible for network issues. However, I also feel that it is bad business for you not to have you cash machine mended or replaced within a day or two. MANY of your guests and visitors must have been so disappointed by the lack of this.

Then, and most importantly, you FAILED to inform me of the lack of these payment facilities prior to arrival and words can't express my embarrassment at my inability to treat everyone. NO ONE called me and yet there was plenty of time and opportunity for you to do so. Obviously, had l been aware, I would have ensured that I, personally, had sufficient cash.

I am so very disappointed and look forward to hearing your response at your earliest convenience. "

Apparently their 'earliest convenience ' is NEVER!! The food is passable and the higher prices only mitigated by the view but WE WON'T be back AND this will be on Facebook! Situation made worse by the fact we are local with a local contact number, so not like we were going to run up a huge bill and bog off away from the area:(
