Apparently, repairing a spectacle arm is impossible — until you take it somewhere else.
I took my frameless spectacles in with a damaged arm and asked for a repair quote. I was told they COULDN'T BE REPAIRED, but they could supply replacement frames for £189.
Interesting solution, considering my COMPLETE spectacles — frames AND prescription lenses — originally cost just £100 from Asda Opticians in Swanley.
So apparently the replacement frames alone are somehow worth £89 more than an entire pair of spectacles!
The best part came the following day. I took the SAME supposedly “unrepairable” spectacles to Asda Swanley.
Twenty minutes later: REPAIRED.
Cost: £0.
And they didn't even ask whether I'd bought them there.
Quite how one optician can declare a pair of spectacles unrepairable and suggest spending £189, while another simply repairs them FREE in 20 minutes, is beyond me.
I expect an optician to provide a reasonable repair service rather than immediately directing a customer towards an expensive replacement.
Based on my experience, I certainly wouldn't recommend this optician.
Perhaps they should ask Asda Swanley how spectacle repairs are done — and how excellent customer service is provided at the same time.
