WARNING...MY 1rst@2cnd ONKYO NIGHTMARE BEGINS!.....!!!! DONT BUY ANY ONKYO PRODUCTS! THEIR JUNK!

I BOUGHT A (ONKEE-YO) TX-NR696 2 YRS AGO (REFURBISHED) AND WHEN I RECEIVED IT I DIDN'T HOOK IT UP UNTIL MY KLIPSH SPEAKERS CAME IN 35 DAYS LATER -WHICH WOULD COME BACK TO BITE ME IN THE BUTT , HARD! (ALWAYS PLUG IN AND TRY ELECTRONICS IMMEDIATELY WHEN YOU RECIEVE THEM)!! BECAUSE AFTER THE 30 DAYS IT HAS TO BE SENT OFF TO THEM FOR REPAIR! SO WHEN I TURNED IT ON FOR THE FIRST TIME IT WOULDN'T EVEN GET OUT OF STANDBY MODE! SO I CALLED ONKYO AND A SALESMAN TRIED HELPING ME GET IT TO WORK WITH NO PREVAIL. (AND THESE CONVERSATIONS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE RECORDED, BUT (ONLY FOR THEIR CONVENIENCE) !!! SO HE DECIDED IT NEEDED TO BE SENT IN FOR REPAIR! SO MY FIRST NIGHTMARE LIKE SOOOO MANY OTHERS KNOW STARTED! I UNPLUGGED IT WHILE WE WERE STILL TALKING AND PULLED IT OUT AND GOT THE BOX TO SEND IT BACK FROM IT BEING UNDER MY CARPORT! (NEVER THROW AWAY AN ONKYO PRODUCT BOX BECAUSE I PROMISE YOU LIKE I'D FIND OUT LIKE SO MANY OTHERS YOU WILL NEED IT FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES)!! IF I ONLY READ THE ONKYO PRODUCTS REVIEWS! YOU'D KNOW WHY THEY WENT BANKRUPT! SO I SENT IT TO .... NORMAN'S SERVICE CENTER IN ATLANTA.... THE WORST OF THEM ALL...!! AFTER 2 MONTHS OF NO WORD I CALLED ONKYO AND THEY FOUND OUT WHY IT HADN'T BEEN FIXED! I WASN'T TOLD TO PUT MY INFO AND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT ON PAPER ? SO INSTEAD OF GETTING BACK TO ME, IT SET IN A SPOT AMONGST THE OTHERS ON THE FLOOR!IF YOUD EVER BEEN IN ONE OF THOSE PLACES YOUD KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT! OUR CONVO WASN'T PLEASANT AT ALL TO SAY THE LEAST AND SO AFTER 5 DAYS I GOT A CALL FROM NORMAN SAYING THE UNIT WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT HAD CAT HAIR, DANDRUFF, DUST, AND A DRIP OF SOMETHING, IT LOOKED LIKE SWEAT, HE SAID BUT I HAD PICTURES OF THE UNIT IN THE BOX THAT I TOOK BEFORE SENDING OFF!!! AND I HAVE NO CAT! SO I ASKED FOR IT TO BE SENT BACK AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID BY ME HE THOUGHT BUT I WANTED IT BACK TO SEE IF WHAT I SENT IT IN FOR WAS STILL THE REASON! WHEN THEY SEND IT BACK I VIDIOED ME UNBOXING AND PLUGGING IT IN ONLY TO SEE IT WOULDN'T TURN ON LIKE WHEN I SENT IT OFF ! AFTER CALLING TRYING TO GET IT REPAIRED AND TELLING THEM TO LISTEN TO THE TAPED PHONE CALL ABOUT WHY I HAD TO SEND IT IN FOR THEY STILL DENIED ME WARRANTY REPAIR!!! THE FIRST TIME i EVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENINGBEFORE !! THE 25 YEAR OLD YAMAHA I HAVE IN MY BARN UNBOXED ON A SHELF STILL WORKS TODAY AND I CANT
GET A NEW (ONK-KEE-O) RECIEVER TO WORK RIGHT AFTER I PLUG IT IN ????
BUT IT GETS WORSE!!!!! DURING THE TIME I SENT MY NEW TX-NR696 RECIEVER, (REFURBISHED, BECAUSE THAT MEANS IT HAD BROKE WITHIN THE FIRST 30 DAYS AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE I BOUGHT IT, IM SURE REFURBISHED BY ●♤ NORMONS♤●, TO BE REPAIRED, THE SALESMAN CONVINCED ME IT WAS TOO LITTLE OF A RECIEVER FOR MY SYSTEM SO I THEN BOUGHT THE HAILED. •☆•ONKYO-- ☆•JEWEL OF RECIEVERS THE ☆》》▪︎RZ-50《《▪︎☆ (BEFORE I KNEW MY OTHER TX-NR696 WOULD BE DENIED WARRANTY OR I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT IT (ESPECIALLY AFTER READING THE VERY POOR REVIEWS ON EVERYTHING THEY MAKE BREAKING) ! !!! SO NOW AFTER OWNING THE RZ-50, it has broken after only 1 year!!! SO now I'm HAVING TO PAY $75 TO SEND IT IN FOR REPAIR - ( ANY OF THEM EXCEPT NORMANS)!!! IM HOPING THE OTHER ONE DOES A BETTER JOB AND IT WILL BE REPAIRED!!! I HAVE A $18,000 10 SEAT SURROUND SOUND THEATER SET UP IN MY HOUSE WITH EVERYTHING BEHIND GLASS AND WELL VENTED! SO I'M SURE NORMAN JUST KNEW HE HAD HIM A NICE RECIEVER TO SELL WHICH HE TRIED TO TELL ME THEY PROBABLY WERNT GOING TO PAY TO SEND IT BACK, (SHADY), HE KNEW THEY WOULD!!!! HOPING ID FALL FOR IT!! BUT I GOT IT BACK! NOW I'LL SEE IF THIS ONE GETS REPAIRED RIGHT! IF I'D HAVE READ THE REVIEWS, I WOULDN'T HAVE EVER BOUGHT ONE!!! , (AND I DID SEND THEM PICTURES OF ME PACKING IT UP BEFORE TAPEING! AND THE TOP WAS CLEAN),
BUT THIS IS UNHEARD OF HAVING BACK-TO-BACK RECEIVERS BREAKING IN A DAY AND IN 1 YEAR! !!! SO PLEASE SPARE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE I'VE BEEN THROUGH!!! OR YOUR NIGHTMARE WILL BEGIN THE DAY YOU BUY IT!!!!!! GOD BLESS AND GOOD LUCK IF YOU DO BUY ONE BEFORE READING MY NIGHTMARE!!!

No support for inferior,defective products

After 5 weeks, the receiver stopped working.Onkyo customer service policy is that I must pay for shipping to authorized repair facility 400 miles away
No replacement, no refund allowed on a defective product is ridiculous ! Onkyo has many complaints regarding durability of their products, obviously you are taking a gamble when purchasing Onkyo products

Stay away from this brand.

I've had a Onkyo receiver for less than 2 years and it's broken twice the first time it took over 4 months to have it fixed and now the HDMI board has gone and I can't find anyone in Canada to help me honour their 2 year warrenty I just keep getting the run around. all their phone numbers don't work from what I understand they are in bankruptcy or near bankruptcy and I'm out over $1400 I can't even pay to get parts in Canada

Fine until it breaks - then you'll never see it

I have an Onkyo A9010 amplifier. Or I did.

It developed a fault 8 months after purchase. I contacted the point of purchase who said "contact Onkyo".
I did. They do not have a UK customer service centre, channelling everything through Germany.

They advised me to contact one of their 3 listed UK service centres, who I must say were excellent up front. They are independent of Onkyo.

They collected the item free of charge, and tested it, and found a fault. They reported this to Onkyo for authorisation of repair/replacement.

And Onkyo haven't replied. For more than eight weeks.

I chase this with the service centre and am told "we are still waiting for Onkyo to reply". I tried contacting Onkyo: they have not replied to me either.
I've tried to escalate, but everyone points to "waiting on Onkyo".

I'm forced to raise a case with Consumer Direct to enforce my rights to a refund for a faulty item.

I will never, ever buy Onkyo again. Great when it works, horrendous when it breaks.

Save your stress levels.

I wouldn't even give them one star for their appalling service, but TrustPilot forced me to.

Don't buy a brick

Onkyo had several years when they produced AV Receivers with faulty HDMI boards. They made an effort to make amends with those customers that came forth with their issues and had an extended replacement program.

Nice and dandy!! Well, my unit died after their extended replacement program ended. I called and emailed and received quick responses but they pretty much said oh well. I was never notified that my unit was one of the affected ones nor were anyone else.

There should have been a recall on the units not an oh well lets just skim by and replace the product when for people that know about the issue.

Terrible handling of something that was a known and big big issue. Do a search for "Onkyo No Sound" and will get a lot of hits.

Proceed with Caution particularly if you are buying a used av receiver.

Bought an Onkyo receiver tx-nr737 in…

Bought an Onkyo receiver tx-nr737 in 2015 paired with klipsch speakers. Cost me over $4000. We had a baby in 2015 so the unit was infrequently used and also at low volumes. Ran the 5.1 setup even though the capability was 7.2.2. In the same year the 5 year warranty expired, the unit one day just switched off and went into protection mode. Called Amber Technologies Australia and got some service agents number. Took it to an agent and was told the surround back right channel power amp and voltage amp boards failed. He repaired it and said surround back right speaker needed to be tested as to why the unit failed. I told him I ran the unit as 5.1 so there was no surround back right speaker connected. He also used refurbished part to repair the unit and this was only revealed to me when I asked for the failed parts to be given to me.
How unlucky am I that an unused channel damages the unit. The whole system was bought as a package through Harvey Norman Liverpool. I am picking up my unit this afternoon and would be interesting to see what the service agent says regarding the non-existent speaker that caused the damage.
Sound quality was good but not to the extent that it was out of this world. There are better brands out there.
I know I would be staying away from Onkyo when I purchase my next amp and I would also advise others to do the same.
My amp has not been used much yet it failed on me.

Was a loyal fan of Onkyo for many years…

Was a loyal fan of Onkyo for many years for my very first time ever had one of their subwoofer amplifiers go bad on me it's a very simple plug-and-play job so I contacted the company attempting to locate a replacement amplifier and although they do carry the amplifier they will not sell it to me unless I am an authorized retailer which is absolutely ridiculous there is no warranty as a subwoofer is too old in the sound quality has always been excellent I really wanted to stay with it but after the run around they gave me basically to tell me the only way to repair is to send it off to one of their service centers on my own dime so it's time to make the switch to Harman Kardon

Just not worth the hassle.😔

Look the sound will be amazing and it will come across as being a high quality product. The trouble is that major corners have been cut in order to maximise profit. Twice have hdmi boards failed and onkyo have admitted on numerous forums this is an issue. You can spend loads of time emailing and trying to get help or meet you atleast halfway on this but to be honest there is loads of quality in this field out there and you don't need the hassle. So stear clear of onkyo. 😔

Look Elsewhere

Generally, I like my 6170 network player. However, the MQA is hit and miss, in that the decoding sometimes fails. Also, lots of my Tune In preset tuning stations now no longer work, and to delete them from the preset, they need to actually be tuned in first?! So I have a lot of dead presets I can’t remove. Thing is, I wouldn’t purchase an Onkyo again, because you pay based on the spec. But when the advertised spec doesn’t work, its tough and you’ve basically been conned.

No communication about my defective unit

Thanks Onkyo for not informing me that my TX-NR818 receiver—a $4K piece of equipment—was subject to a recall because contained of a well-known defect (to them anyway). I now have an expensive paperweight because the recall ended 2 years ago and no service provider can repair the unit as the faulty part is no longer available.

FFS, this is beyond ridiculously poor customer service. I chose this unit over many others because I loved the amazing sound quality, but can never trust this brand again.
