We needed time to process this experience, which costed us really tons of nerves.
We rented a VW van for 25 nights in July, paying over 2k upfront. Upon pick up, the van had significant issues, including a long scratch, missing covers for water and electricity plugs, no company sticker, and it was in poor condition. Despite these issues, we were told no replacement van was available due to high season. Additionally, turning the car on, alert on the inspection popped up but the guy told us “there is special arrangement with VW to extend the timing needed for inspection”.
We faced numerous problems during the trip, including a gas tank empty after 5 days that could not be “easily refilled”, as we were told at the pick up, as in Norway they have a different system, but no one could assist us either at the pick up or at the online client service, water leaks, an unstable roof, and incorrect mosquito nets. The van hadn’t been properly checked before being handed over to us.
Two days before returning the van, we had to hunt one FULL DAY for oil after getting an alert. The client service was unhelpful and slow to respond, with totally not competent people to assist, who were unable to tell us where to buy the oil.
Upon return, they promised to clean the car and to then check for eventual damages. This is not a normal practice as the car should be checked BEFORE being touched; this was a mistake on our side, but we just trusted the process being tired after a full day driving with a baby. Apparently, two very minor scratches were found, but who knows who made them (since they cleaned the car without us)? Given these could have been “usage scratches” and could have been existing at the start too (the guy who gave us the car told us that for such minor scratches it is not even needed they are reported in the pick up protocol - other mistake on our side, not taking a full video of each cm of the Van and insisting for reporting everything) we signed the return protocol.
We were then sent a bill for 600 EUR for the scratches in August, but despite multiple requests, we didn’t receive any explanation for the amount until October. It is the right of the customer to get full proof how the amount was calculated; those we received were issued in October and not in August, so how could they invoice us without a calculation, at that time?. Upon chase and clear evidence they were obviously missing proofs, they provided THREE DIFFERENT CALCULATION SHEETS, all with different amounts (continuously recalculated after my chase, even displaying different charges for the same services, how curios) - still that could not justify the original charge. The personnel replying to my emails was unfriendly, impolite and unprofessional. This company is extremely dishonest and makes the business case if you don’t subscribe their full insurance coverage - fun fact is if we would have done it, we would have paid 600 eur more ;)
There is something called customer service and something called customer care.
We rented a van in munich in July 2024 and overall were happy with the van. Nice quality, all good.
Unfortunately our van got broken into in Barcelona and this soured our trip. When this happened we contacted Off immediately and they said to file a police report and then they would contact us back with options for repairs etc ... We are still waiting for the phone call.
We filed the report and the next day went to a repair shop in France and we organized to get the broken glass repaired. You can imagine that it was not very nice to sleep with a smashed window. We got the invoice in the name of OFF and hoped for a commercial gesture from their side.
I wrote to them with the police report and invoice and it took 3 months to answer and said that we only had basic insurance and they could not help.
I am sure that this review will get the usual ... " we are happy that you liked the van and we are truly sorry about your incident but we cannot do anything about it etc etc .... " I would say : no need for the lip service. Save yourself time.
So OFF you go. Definitely not on my list of places where I would rent a van.
So you lost a customer .. but you don't care.

Off Camper: A Disappointing Experience
I recently rented a camper from Off Camper and was extremely disappointed with the overall experience. The initial booking process was straightforward enough, but the issues began upon return. We were charged an exorbitant cleaning fee, despite having left the camper in a reasonably clean condition and being charged 60 Euro cleaning fee with the confirmation no further charges would occur.
Furthermore, communication with Off Camper was frustrating. It took multiple conversations and back-and-forth emails to resolve the dispute over the cleaning fee. The customer service representatives seemed uninterested in addressing our concerns and were slow to respond, where unavailable under the request to be transferred to the team leader was denied.
Don't be fooled by Off Camper's claim of a 100% satisfaction guarantee. This is nothing more than a sales gimmick designed to lure in unsuspecting customers. If you're unfortunate enough to encounter issues with your rental, as I did, the "guarantee" is practically worthless.
After reporting my concerns, I was asked to complete a questionnaire. However, the resolution process was incredibly slow and frustrating. The promised refund was a mere fraction of the service fee, and I was forced to wait for several days before receiving any response. Finally receive our response and our request for a refund of the fee was declined.
It's clear that Off Camper prioritizes profits over customer satisfaction. If you're looking for a reliable and trustworthy camper rental company, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. There had been some very unpleasant communication in particular with one Customer Service Representative which was rather rude and wrong accusations had been made against us.
We received out of courtesy a 60 Euro deduction of our fee after a long ordeal without them acknowledging the issue and still letting us feel we are the ones in the wrong.
I would not recommend Off Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and hassle-free camper rental experience. The name "Off Camper" is truly fitting, as our experience was extremely off-putting.

I had booked pick-up in Hamburg, and unfortunately they didn’t have any free parking spaces for reservation together with the van. When enquiring at Offs customer service, they could not give any advise for parking upfront. On the pickup date, parking was completely impossible - after several enquiries they found a parking place for my own car, but handover took nearly 1 1/2 hours.
Obviously that is somewhat out of their control, but would be nice if the customer service could at least inform of the nearest garage where 1 week parking is allowed.
The camper was in good condition and the service at both pick-up and return was super friendly.
I am now waiting for return of my deposit which may take up to 6 weeks for return - that’s not really ok.

But, a minor scratch to a wing mirror cost me more than 500 Euros and one can only presume this inflated invoice is a way of making money from customers.
A pity this soured a great visit to Germany.

Camperboys , as far as everything is working normally you see good service, kind people. But as soon as there is a problem, you are stuck in a poor loop of communication. We hired a camper for 8 days, on the forth day it suddenly stoped working. Under very hot weather of August we had to call a lot of people for hours just to get one tel number of the insurance!And even after that whenever you had to get information or follow something up you had to wait a long time, they promised to call you back and then no news for hours, then you called again and was connected to different people and and you had to explain everything from the beginning ! Two complete days of our trip gone, a lot of extra costs born which was of course not compensated. Even our rest of money for the rest of four days was only returned 6 weeks after the insurance report( totally 9 weeks later), but really why on earth!? And still it was not completely paid, I never understood how they calculated but it was not the amount we paid initially for four days and I was so frustrated that didn‘t write them any more. Will never go for it again.

CamperBoys allowed us to have the best trip ever!
They do not only offer multiple different vans but you can also book various on-top accessoires (such as a portable toilet). The customer service was quick, helpful and friendly. Never have we ever felt so good with a rental company before. Big plus: CamperBoys have awesome cooperation partners and sustainability is valued!
The trip itself was amazing, which was mainly due to the amazing campervan. The Volkswagen Beach Edition is comfortable to drive, has enough space to store your personal belongings and sleeping in the rooftop tent is very cozy.
We would never choose another rental company again and can highly advise everyone to choose CamperBoys for their next adventure!

When we arrived at the pick-up place, we went through the introduction of the car, which was really helpful and informative. During the trip we used their app to see videos of the extra features of our van.
Wonderful experience and we would definitely do it again - and recommend others to do the same! 🏕️🇩🇪

CamperBoys are super rental of campers. We rented our first VW California Ocean T6.1 for our first camper tour around Europe. They showed us all the basics and answered all question. Even gave us a basked of goods when we left - free of charge. Not ofte that you get a gift like that - after your payment have been done.
We came in early and returned a day early but they showed great flexibility and fitted us in.
Can really recommend to use these guys (and girls). Safe. Super nice. Newish cars with full equipment.

Amazingly clean campers that are fully equipped for life on the road. Even in the cold spring weather, the van was warm and cosy. Personally, I had no issues getting to grips with the internal computer, so I was able to use the heating when it got a bit cooler. The bed in the camper is super comfortable as well. Just make sure you park somewhere flat(ish).
Also, a big shout out to the great staff, who are very helpful!

OK, we are a familly of four acompanied with a small dog and we just got back from our 7 days and 2.500 kilometers long road trip and this was our first time. The process of booking a camper, gathering the technicall data on vehicle and regulations was clean and very simple due to perfectly organized web site, help desk and of course the crew of camper boys. We choosed the base at Freising ( Munich) as our pickup and return location and in both cases we were surprised how Good theese guys are. At pickup , we were welcomed by Ralph who sistematically explained us how everything on the vehicle works and we were ready to go … at the return ,we changed the return time cause we got back few hours earlier which was no problem for Francisco who welcomed us with a cupp of coffe and handled a camper return process in the few minutes. I also must mention that we got a lot of free treats 😋of our own choice from camper boys store ( beer, cola, crackers etc) . And last but not least ; the camper we rented was vw grand california 600 and was excellent, built in 2021. equipped with most you can imagine safety and comfort features, very easy to drive and very easy to use all the appliances like heating, toillet, sink , refridgerator etc.. we also had dishes, cuttlery and all necessities including salt and pepper so we practically didnt need to bring any items from home. The conclusion is that we are coming back for sure, we had a wonderful time and from the start everything with camperboys was at highgest level ; no additional costs, no tehnicall issues with vehicle and with minimum paper work.
